The Nathan Ake Thread

Apparently we are going to sell him for 20mil to Bournemouth. Great business by the Club.

Btw, how much are we going to be buying him back for? I would say about 50mil in 2 season's time with Cahill and Luiz aging up and the club looking for a couple of new CB.

Great business if this happens!!! Great.. just flipping great.

But why? We keep doing this to our best prospects and youths. :face_palm:

Please at the very least Marina put a buyback clause in the contract at 25-30m.

Just stupid if true.

I don't think he is 1st choice for us if he stays and I'm not sure he ever will be unless he keeps improving. He hardly played when we brought him in January. He'd be great to have around from a homegrown standpoint but if he's not ready/capable for Conte's plan to play more often than he did the 2nd half of the season he'll be unhappy and we'll have a player whose value will never be higher sitting on the bench or not even in the squad.

Hopefully there's a buy back clause if he's the best option in 2 years to play for us but this probably also means the club are confident of signing a better player right now this summer.

If we sign another CB, then he will be going. If not, he could take that role, but I expect us to sign someone instead. Christensen will be next out the door.

We're in desperate need of home grown players. 20m or not I think we need to keep him. Capable of playing three positions well.

we have aina, baker, chalobah, loftus-cheek, musonda, christensen who are all home grown (as far as i am aware) so i really don't see too much of an issue with the home grown situation.

he's as good as gone anyway imo. he is a talented player, but we also have zouma and christensen waiting for their chance, and with talk of van dijk it will be difficult for ake to get a chance at all. i am not opposed to selling him for a good price which can go towards securing an even better cb.

Got the same feelings as I did towards Bertrand , happy enough for him to remain as a squad player but equally not that bothered if he wants to go to be a starter and in that case, good luck to him.

Aina wont be in the squad as we need an upgrade on RWB or atleast a decent back up.

How do you think RLC/Baker/Chalobah all are going to be in the squad next season.

I think there will only be room for one young centre back in the squad, and that is shaping up to be Andreas Christensen.

A shame for Ake, as personally I think he is a good player, butI don't see him getting much game time ahead of Azpilicueta, Luiz, Cahill, New CB (Bonucci, van Dijk etc), and Christensen, so probably best for all concerned if he is sold on.

Hopefully we will have a buyback clause in there.

I think Zouma is even further down the pecking order than Ake LOL

well loftus-cheek and chalobah were the season gone, and we'll need depth. i think conte might want to take a look at baker pre-season to make a decision. there are no guarantees of course. i just don't see the point in keeping a player just for the homegrown quota, rather than selling if he's going to get very limited use.

Well we need at least 4 to ensure we can carry a full CL squad. In my mind it'd be better if they could actually play. Ake can cover at LCB LB and CDM. Seems insane to let him go as a left footed (we don't have enough of them) versatile, home grown player. He's the best of the current bunch in my view and it would be criminal to let him go.

Ake, Christensen and Chalobah should all have rotation roles. We would then have one other club grown cover player. We would then have Gary, Cesc, Victor and possibly Romelu as home grown.

If there is a CB to go on loan in my mind it is probably Kurt. Love him,  but he needs to rebuild his confidence after injury and he doesn't necessarily suit our current style. I wouldn't sell because the way we are Conte could get sacked and we'd need him again. But he should go to the top tier in France and play 35 games this season.

So you think Baker/RLC/Chalobah/Aina (who has barely ever played top tier football) is better than Ake who has impressed MASSIVELY for watford and Bournemouth and looked very good even against the likes of Spurs.

Aké has most likely said he doesnt want to be a squad player. Which is fair enough, but he wont be a starter here so only other option is to sell him really. Which is a shame, would have been good player to have in a pinch

Probably the most talented and first team ready player we have produced in ages and he still can't get a chance. £20m being offered is a lot of money for what the club considers a backup player. Pains me to say as Ake is right up there as one of my favorite players for us but I would rather we just sold him than waste his time with tiny appearances.

I take your point but for me saying you want to play more isn't the same as Lukaku saying he wanted to be first team every week.

I think with Matic possibly heading off, JT leaving and Sandro far from certain a left footed player of his quality would get plenty of matches and would be very valuable. Right now how many left footers do we have? Tibo, Alonso, Matic? It's very unbalanced.

I like Ake and kind of hoped he'd stay around but from a business stand point £20m is a hell of a lot of money for a player considered to be a backup.

If we do sell him, I hope we put in a buyback clause incase he turns in to the best CB in the league. We've had our fingers burnt too many times with that already for me.

If he's looking for more first team opportunities then that's fair enough and I wish him the best.

I'd argue that he's the best player we've produced from our academy in the last 10 years, personally I'm a big fan of his and would be disappointed to see him go.

I understand that he's too good to be sitting on the bench every week though and leaving for regular football at this point in his career is understandable.

Daily Mail who is reporting it says we'll only sell him with a buy-back clause. If thats the case i wouldn't mind it one bit.

Maybe with Lukaku and KDB (although we didn't sell them unaware of there quality) but contrary to popular belief selling an academy player has never come back to bite us.

It's a shame because I really think he could take Cahill's place in the XI in the next season or two. Never really been totally convinced by Cahill though.

I certainly think Ake is a good player and premiership standard. The problem I see is he is a little short for a CB and not quite fast enough for LWB and guess after playing success at Bournemouth he wants a regular spot.

Best let him go with the best wishes of the club, IMO.

I'm not that fussed in all honesty. I rate Christensen higher and think he has a better chance at making it here. I think Ake is a decent player, but he is an erratic defender, i think he would cost us a lot of goals in the long run. With Luiz, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Christensen and possibly somebody else coming in, i just don't see a spot for Ake, i feel the same towards Zouma too.
