Raheem Sterling to Chelsea

Featured Replies

He can go wherever he lieks, just don't want him at Chelsea. He seems like a little ball bag

But why exactly... ? what has he actually done. I think wanting out of Liverpool is to be commended

I just don't think he has the maturity to be a Chelsea player. He will get better no doubt, but I think he's just yet another overhyped English player, akin to Aaron Lennon.

Cant blame him for wanting out of Liverpool I guess, they are going nowhere fast. But turning down 100K a week (when hes not even worth it), at 20 years old seems like poor form and bit disrespectful to the bin dippers (not that I am complaining!)

But it might not be about the money.

He signs a 5 year £100k a deal now he's stuck there for let's say the next 3 years with Rogers playing him left wing, right wing, wing back and centre forward depending on whatever system he is experimenting with that week.

All the while he's not playing Champions League football and competing for the league. That's not the be all and end all but it would appear that, that is where his ambition lies.

By not signing the new contract he is effectively a couple of million quid out of pocket at this stage but despite being Liverpool's best player this year he's stuck to his convictions about the contract dispute.

Let's say he leaves and signs for Chelsea and is earning £100k, surely that will mean the move was motivated by footballing ambition rather than money? Because if money is all he cared about then he'd have stayed at Liverpool and pocketed the extra money as soon as it was on the table.

I really don't think that Sterling is in it for the money.

And by all reports, the money was leaked by sources at the club to try and shame him into staying. That's thoroughly unprofessional so is it any wonder he wants to leave?

Great points being raised.

We shall see if he is at City soon then

They're a better team than Liverpool. They'll also be in the CL next season.

Going from Liverpool to City is not an indication of being money-orientated.

Personally I would avoid him like the plague as his off the field antics are a disaster waiting to happen. Another gazza in the making without the fun

Back in London I think he will spend more time on the front pages than the back and be banned from playing more games than actually playing them ......

I honestly think he is a massive cash cow for his agent and a number of hangers who are cashing in now when he is hot property . I don't think he is the sharpest knife in the draw and has his head easily turned ....

Is that post above serious? Another Gazza?

I think your last point is pertinent regarding his representation but the rest of it is at best baseless isn't it?

Not really Dave , know the circle he hangs about with from his young days and it will only lead to trouble if he is back in London full time .....

You know them personally? The reason I ask is because plenty of footballers come up in rough areas but Sterling hasn't had any run-ins that I know of.

If you can't see how essential willian has been to our title campaign then we are probably on the way to no where with this convo.

But lets take that aside, Cuadrado certainly has done nothing of note to date and there is a very simple economic term with regards to this, it's called a sunk cost, effectively this means that you shouldn't let the money spent effect you making decisions that will enhance your business and in this case the team and squad

i accept willian was important and has played well for the majority of the season, but he has something like 8 goals in the last 2 seasons, which is really poor. it may be jose's fault for playing him on that right wing as he's not as effective, but he's hardly a player who is going to add a huge amount to our team if we want to challenge on all fronts next season. he is a useful player to have in the squad, but i am sure if we look hard enough we can find a player who will add as much as the likes of hazard, costa, fabregas; this is the kind of quality we need.

in regards to cuadrado, we were way too quick to pay for his services. we could have easily kept schurrle or salah, sold them in the summer and used that extra money elsewhere on top quality. i always come back to sanchez, but that was a brilliant buy for arsenal and would have been an excellent acquisition for us too, and in a position where we're crying out for someone of that quality. he cost arsenal around 7-8 million more than cuadrado cost us. Hell, you could even argue that sanchez has done more for arsenal in one season in the EPL than all of willian, salah, schurrle and cuadrado have done during their time here.

Some of the comments in this thread lmao. I mean when its one of our players its "filthy journos spewing sh*t again always trying to make our players look bad". But when it comes to Sterling its just accepted like fact and "yup, knew he was a greedy c**t bar steward".

Personally I can completely understand why he wants out of Liverpool and if he was our academy player I think anyone who claimed he wasnt Chelsea standard would be chased off the forum

he went to school with a number of my mates kids who I know very well and they aren't the type to tell a lot of porkies , nice kid but falls in with the wrong crowd a lot which will have repercussions later as he doesn't seem to have an off/no button.Given the recordable video/audio devices available to everyone he will come truly unstuck one day

I doubt Jose would want him.  All this nonsense in the past about him not wanting to play because he's too tired....sorry, but there's no way Jose goes for someone with that in their past

See I've heard similar, but that he's actually a well-intentioned, shy kid but yes he can fall in with some rough crowds as a number of youngsters do.

However I don't think that means he's a lost cause or any more likely to cause trouble than Jody or JT were at a similar age. I think this club has a fantastic structure that would help him mature and that there's absolutely nothing to say that he would be close to what you're suggesting.

Nice contribution though - not just judging him by the media reports (of which there aren't many) or anything else. :JC_doubleup:

If Sterling was a top player and said he wanted to leave Liverpool i would understand it, but he isn't. I don't think Sterling is good enough for the best sides yet and he may never be. I wouldn't want us to sign him, he doesn't look any better than Wright-Phillips or Lennon when they were at his age.

Seems to me we was having this discussion end of last season, with about 50% saying similar about Costa, Look how that ended.

He looks a lot better than Wright-Philips at that age doesn't he? How many times had Wright-Philips played in the Premier League at Sterling's age?

The statement that now defines Liverpool

Take Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher out of the equation in the modern era and you are left with players who use Liverpool as a launchpad, not the final destination.

"A brief chat with that soft-spoken colossus of a manager and Sterling would leave the office feeling grateful Paisley gave him the time and with a sense of gratitude to even be part of the club."

What, a bit like bullying ? Awful being tied into a contract for a job, I can't imagine what it must be like for footballers knowing their career length is shorter than most of ours.

SWP wasn't even playing in the Premier League at his age.

Difference we were worried about whether he'd see out games, his ability was recognised for the most part !

For those worried about Sterling's attitude, Jose got Cole to knuckle down and graft hard, so I wouldn't be too worried. As for the Lennon comparison, Lennon has always been about pace and not much else. If the price isn't too high, I won't be too unhappy about this one happening. Plus it will be nice to rub it in their faces when he scores against them. (Added to that, he's England future along with Kane.)
