A lot is made recently about the poor standards of refereeing in the PL. So who do you think is the best referee in the PL currently?

Michael Oliver in my opinion. Maybe made a mistake or two against Liverpool but he's normally very consistent. 

 

Pretty sure he was the youngest ever ref in the prem too

Atkinson or Dean.

Atkinson is the best. I still think Oliver is one of the better ones too, despite his shocker on Tuesday.

 

Worst referee is obviously a much easier decision, Chris Foy.

I think it shows how bad the quality of refeering is here when in order to decide the best, you have to think deeply about who makes the least horrible mistakes

There is not much between any of them, they are all numpties of the highest order.

Atkinson

Is it weird to say Mike Dean? I honestly think he has done a better job in our bigger games than most I can think of.

Atkinson is alright too. Clattenburg is supposed to be Webbs successor but he tends to let games get a bit out of control for me. Hazard was hacked to bits against City before they saw anything like a yellow card.

I actually think it's Phil Dowd.

Howard Webb....oh f**k.

I actually watched the World Cup with smug thoughts of "this refereeing is appalling compared to what we have in the Premiership".

 

It's only really since since Howard Webb left that I've noticed the standards becoming so abysmal.

Clattenburg. Pawson is the worst. 

It's a bit like asking which way is the best way to die.

The standard of refereeing this season has been appalling, including assistant & 4th official.

I can't pick out a best as they've all made game changing mistakes.

He or She has not been employed yet - they are mediocrity personified the lot of 'em.

I think the ideal referee is one whose presence on the pitch you don't even notice. Also we are far more inclined to remember refs who put in bad performances than good ones - as a result answers to questions like this are always going to be who people perceive to be the least bad rather than the most competent overall.

So basically what you're all saying is that I should train up to be a referee and become a PL ref.
