Abuse don't make me laugh. Its banter he just couldn't handle it

Were you there today mate? It was certainly abuse, some of it way over the top from grown men! All game. Can't pass that off as 'banter' I'm afraid.

What was there to 'buy into' though? It wasn't patronising, it was a spontaneous, simple gesture to say now rivalry is over, here's some applause to send you on your way...not saying he should break down in tears with heartfelt gratitude, but it bemuses me how he or anyone can make a negative out of it

He got a load of stick, we applauded him, he applauded us, we have him some more stick and he gave us some in the interview.

It was a good exchange. Don't think anyone needs to read too much into it.

Did he make a negative out of it? He just stayed loyal to himself and ultimately his club/fans. I can't argue with that. Best thing he's ever done at Stamford Bridge actually!

If the roles were reversed and JT did that we'd have lapped it up (as in sure the scousies are)

Guess thats the right of a football fan though!

Yeah but do you honestly think he heard it im sure he didn't maybe when he took corners but every player gets abuse when the take a corner. I reckon he was more on about the songs being sung rather then hearing abuse from individuals. I guess when we don't make noise we get criticized and we get critizied when we do. My opinion is we gave him a reception that we didn't have to give him and we showed abit of class in doing so. He gets worse abuse against Everton can't see him getting a standing ovation at goodison park can you? Its a rivalry that's no over maybe he was just having one last dig. Can't blame him I suppose

Not enough players tell it how it really is. I've got no issue with his post match comments to be honest, anybody who does just remember how the last 14 months of his Liverpool career panned out!

Oh he heard it. Every player gets stick when they come to take a corner but it's always a different level for Gerrard! He heard it alright. It was brutal today. Banter it was not.

I agree those fans who clapped deserve praise. it's a nice bit of PR for us actually. Would never happen at many other stadiums in the country and its good it happened at our place with our fans , especially in a season where our fans have taken a battering for a number of reasons. But im just saying I quite respected him for not gushing about it.

Anyway far too much focus on this and that's my fault! We should be taking about the game anyway. Not that it was a game, it was more of a friendly out there today from us, especially in the second half.

On match of the day, now dressed in casual gear, he backtracked and said 'it was a nice touch'...that's all he had to say in the first place.

A Liverpool supporting friend posted a picture of Terry slipping, with the words chelsea fans who sing about Terry slipping. They have to go back seven long years to think of something...oh dear.

all this talk about gerrard, does any opposition fan ever really care? if a player doesn't play for your own team, i don't see why anyone would care if he's leaving or not. he has been a very good player, but he's no different than the 100's of other world class players who've played in the league and then left. in fact, i could easily put maybe 20 players ahead of him who i would consider better quality, and whom brought true entertainment to the premier league. sure, you can respect him as a top player, but the ott reactions to him leaving are kind of nauseating. where is lampard's applause? will there be one for drogba from opposition fans? what about cech? nothing is said about those players, but with gerrard it's a constant barrage of media fandom.

The fact JT & Willian and possible others have sodded off to Dubai for however long straight after this game shows how important we viewed this game...! Loads of them were on holiday before, didn't train, had a match (such a chore) and then seemingly buggered off abroad.

I don't know... I just find that funny.

Don't know if it's been mentioned on here and earlier and I've just seen it wasn't shown on sky but late in the second half while skertel was down injured the chorus of "Fabregas is magic" whilst Cesc was standing waiting to take a corner was fantastic.

Pure noise for a good 10 or 12 renditions whilst Cesc clapped along and tapping his foot lol he stood there as proud as punch!

I was just by the corner and got a cracking video of this!

Jesus guys, chill out a bit about what Gerrard said. Football has been full of banter for decades and players are at the sharp end of abuse in a way fans never are, in fact if most fans got the level of abuse players did they would probably kick off every two minutes.

If you're a fan and you love giving it out to Gerrard or Rooney, Barton, Adebayor, etc etc then grow a bit of a pair and take it back when a player makes a small dig which isn't anything like on a par with constant abuse from thousands and thousands of fans week in week out. If you can't take it don't give it out.

All this faux outrage is just hypocrisy.

He didn't because was a narky f**ker playing the big man (as per) in front of the camera.

Probably realised later...like a petulant kid does when sent to his room.

I'll say this one last time (promise) f**k off to America slippy.
