Petr Cech to Arsenal

Featured Replies

If he keeps 10 goals out, conservative, that an average keeper couldnt, it could be worth at least 10 points to them.

Arsenal condeded only 36 goals last season. So keeping out 10 additional goals is equivalent to Arsenal conceding only 72% as many times as last season. I don't think that's conservative.

He is so overrated and has been since the knock against Reading all those years ago.

Easily one of the top 5 keepers in the world. Big part of 4 title winning sides (2 of which happened after that head injury), was one of our best performers on our way to Champions League glory in 2012 and helped us win countless other fa cups and league cups. Still one of the best keepers in the world and to say he's overated is quite a ludicrous statement. Would walk into most clubs across the globe and be their number one.

Yea, got a knock on the head and never recovered, judging by his champions league final performance and many of his performances after that injury.

For someone who did so much for our football club and who stayed even when he knew he was surplus to requirements he should be able to choose his next destination. Now I hate arsenal as much as the next Chelsea fan but someone like Cech deserves our respect, it's not like I'm going to be wishing him good luck anytime soon but I still wish him and his family happiness. His move to Arsenal was not ideal but come on it's Arsenal, there's nothing to worry about!

Over 40 games thats 1 extra save every 2 games. Thats pretty doable.

??????????? seriously ??? Not sure many Le Arse Fans would agree with you ........

that he did it to them in the same city but not us in the same country makes him even more of a legend to me haha

Cudicini got a knock against Reading too? The odds......

Really interesting article on Cech. Factually based as well which makes it actual have some truth to it. Maybe Jose was right?

I'm sure his performance and value to Arsenal will become apparent over the course of the season... for me it's too early to say he's "in decline".

Unless i'm mistaken the article fails to mention Petr hasn't played competitively for well over a year (Courtois was sent off on the opening day, does that mean he's in decline too?).

Form is temporary class is permanent as they say.

Yup, the worst day for anyone to play between the sticks for Chelsea. I would have been scared for JT, because with our luck that day, he would have been struck by lightning.

You know it actually is a valid question to ask but not really after one game. Although if you have the DVD of last season, revisit it and watch some of the goals he conceded in certain games, it will make you consider this. Although he wasn't playing regularly last season so that could suggest why.

But the stats show a progressive decline over a number of seasons - not just one game or last season. Must admit, I was surprised when I read it.

That said, I still think he will prove himself to be a very good goalkeeper for Arsenal. We've had his best years but he's still a fantastic shot stopper. I do think that he will miss JT's organisational skills and that will take some getting used to.

All the stats show is we had a really phenomenal defence 2004 to 2007, Cech played his part in that. He is still a good keeper, he though does have his weaknesses. The first West Ham goal last week shows his biggest weakness the inswinging freekick from 30 yds wing.

His first was a good save, but he really shouldnt have been allowed to make it, it was very poor from Benteke. Great second save though.

Courtois would have saved both blindfolded with his arms tied behind his back.

Yet he can't command his area anywhere near as well.

That goal from Charlie Adam last season shook him. Mourinho must have gone f**king ballistic at him for being too far out for it so he keeps well back from now on. That's what got JT sent off yesterday.

Cech has experience, and I'd say he's about on par with Courtois.
