Radamel "the project" Falcao

Featured Replies

I think this is a bad signing but i'm 100% behind him, we have to support him.

Just like we did with Torres.  While they are here, we have to get behind them

Amazing how quite a few people have changed their opinion of Falcao after a couple of pre season pens. Remember even Shevchenko scored in the Community shield. Pre season doesn't mean anything.

I think it's just that everyone's trying to convince themselves that he's not going to be a flop.  If we say it often enough, he will be brilliant.

I mean it worked with Torres didn't it?

OK, STOP! Who invited the Realist? This page was getting so optimistic I was convinced Falcao was on track for a 30 goal haul this year!

Cesc feeding Falcao in training.. apparently a 'good moment in training' according to Radamel. Definitely a 30 yard pass met with an overhead kick..

If he manages the level of Torres in his final two years with us, I'd be happy with that. Can't expect much more from a third choice striker, even though he is was capable of much more (like Torres).

I think you're right, not to put too high expectations on him. I'd certainly be happy with double figures. I also believe he'll generally be 2nd choice, not third. I think Remy will get some game time as a winger along with some in the middle

I have a feeling in my bones.. Im very much looking forward to some quoting down the line.. Or having this one thrown in my face haha

I feel the same way when everyone was slating us getting him I said this could turn out very tasty, just suppose he regains form which he has all the conditions to do with our set up, then suppose Jose plays him with Costa: Falcao, Costa and Hazard is Barca and Real worthy it takes us to that next level if Jose can pull it off..

Statistically wouldn't it be Drogba, anelka, kaulo

Kalou played on the wing a fair bit though, and in fact so did Anelka if I recall. But yeah, that's up there along with Crespo, Drogba and Gudjohnsen.

Mourinho: "Falcao is ready, ready. I like him, I like him a lot as a player. I think the team plays very well with a striker of his quality"

Mourinho: "Falcao is not just a guy who can score a goal, he is always a threat & is a guy who contributes a lot to the quality of the game"

Mourinho: "I like Falcao a lot. I’m very happy with his first week, it’s only been a week but I am very happy with this week."

I may be in the minority, but I really think Falcao will surprise a few this year.

It's an interesting situation because I can't think of any top-level striker in recent memory that regained their former glory after a spell of poor performance (for reasons other than injury). The closest is perhaps Nicolas Anelka, but anyone who watched him particularly at Bolton where he single-handedly won games for them knew it was about his reputation not ability that put off big clubs. It seems clear that once you've lost 'it', there's no going back. There is every chance that in this sense he will be another Torres or Shevchenko.

However, unlike Torres or Shevchenko, we don't need him to be a 25+ goal striker. Those guys were brought in as British transfer records; Falcao was brought in as a cheap, third-choice backup. Like Drogba who was in the same role last year, what he does off the pitch in terms of providing competition, experience and leadership is equally if not more important as what he does on the pitch.

He had one below par season at utd, it's hardly like he's played sh*t for 2-3 seasons now. However, there is every reason falcao can regain form.

Good post, but, like you i fear this (underlined in qoute) will be how it ends up.... But... As you say we don't need him as we did the other two.

Brazilian Ronaldo and Ruud Van Nistleroy are the two strikers who come to mind who recovered from serious knee injuries.

But they are exceptions rather than the norm.

I thought about them too but it's slightly different as they both hit the ground running after their injuries and maintained more or less a similar strike rate post-injury, whereas Falcao has since endured a season of mediocrity. It's very hard indeed to name a striker who endured a season of mediocre performance before returning to their best.

Does Drogba count as someone who refound his form as didn't he have a couple of mediocre seasons in his time here seem to remember the 08 season being pretty bad.

Edit: just looked went from 20 league goals in 06/07 season to 8 league goals to 5 league goals then he scored a ridiculous 29 league goals in the 09/10 season

So I'm pretty sure every player will have gone through a mediocre season at some point.

Yeah, thought about him too, but as I recall it was a combination of falling out with Scolari + recurring injuries; Drogba found his feet again under Hiddink pretty quickly.

Hopefully van Gaal had something to do with Falcao's performances, but in the end, it doesn't really matter, he's still more than capable of hitting the 10 goals we need from him.

Good points..I personally feel that once you've lost it, it's gone. I guess it's abit like Rocky 3 when he gets beaten by Mr T.

Mind you, Rocky came back to beat him so what do I know.

I would love to be proved wrong about Falcao. I think he'll be better than he was at United but his old form. He doesn't look like he suits English football .

Falcao looked decent movement wise and was involved in the link up play but he still looks like bambi..he looks clumsy with the ball.

Happily give him time but not convinced he will transform.
