February 1, 201610 yr Took them some 8 years but they've finally got a world class manager in, literally the only thing they've been missing all this time. The owner seems hell bent on success without letting up as well, expect world domination.
February 1, 201610 yr top managers go to the clubs with the best resources. that's the way it is. I think the idea that he or jose should go to norwich "to prove themselves" or whatever is nonsensical. you wouldn't say iniesta should pitch up at watford so we can find out if he's actually any use, would you? he's clearly a fantastic coach and they'll be great to watch I'm sure. anyway I can't believe they'd announce this six months early with a manager in place. pretty poor form from the people running city.
February 1, 201610 yr Be interesting to see what this does for city's title push for this season. It seems the whole of the establishment want the title to reside in north London, probably just to spite us!
February 1, 201610 yr It seems odd to announce this in February when so much is at stake for City this season. It'll be tough for Pep if Pellegrini wins a sackful of trophies. And do players start thinking that they should save themselves for Peps arrival?
February 1, 201610 yr I can see City dominating for the next decade now, With their money, Pep and rivals with broken backs at the moment. Thought this about Bayern and they went backwards so we'll see.
February 1, 201610 yr i was going to respond bitterly and say it doesn't mean they will win the league, etc, etc, but lets be honest guardiola is a big draw for players and city have the money to splash on new players, so combine those two things and the next 3 years may be quite frustrating for the rest of us. we made our own mistakes by sacking managers left and right, but on top of that the time wasn't right because i think we all expected jose to stay beyond this season. another positive for city is i guarantee guardiola will bring through a few youth players during his tenure at city. guardiola is probably the best coach out there right now and city are arguably the best club in england right now so it's only natural he would choose them. February 1, 201610 yr If Jose joins Utd, that's gonna be funny to watch from the sidelines. Him and Pep hate each other. Both egomaniacs. Popcorn every weekend.

February 1, 201610 yr Could have the other effect. Players at City who desperately want to play for Pep and his era with City so will go the extra mile this season to do well and not lose their spot.
February 1, 201610 yr there's certainly going to be a small handful of players he won't want. toure will probably be one of those.
February 1, 201610 yr Pep at city with all the money in the world, going to be painful times for everyone else. This will be last chance saloon for Arsenal to win the league this year. Pelligrini has underachieved this year. With city's squad and the money they have spent they should be 10 points ahead in the league. The way Chelsea work though I'm sure we will appoint the City reject.
February 1, 201610 yr IF Mourinho does go to Utd in the summer, it will make the Utd v City derbies tasty affairs. They can grab all he headlines why we quietly go about our business. I still hope Hiddink will agree to continue but with a No. 2 understudying who will then take over the reigns the following season.
February 1, 201610 yr Pep is such a sell-out. An easy, ready-made squad, as much money as he wants to spend whoever he wants. God forbid actually seeking out a challenge
February 1, 201610 yr city are the best team in england, he's arguably the best coach in europe, why would he go to an inferior club if he can go to the best one in that country? that would show a lack of ambition on his part if anything. at least he's coming to england to prove his abilities rather than playing it safe and staying at bayern or going on a sabbatical for a year or two then going back to spain, which he could have done. February 1, 201610 yr He's not even a patch on one of the proper great managers. Guys walks into success
February 1, 201610 yr Pep is such a sell-out. An easy, ready-made squad, as much money as he wants to spend whoever he wants. God forbid actually seeking out a challenge There was never an indication he was going anywhere to be challenged. His MO seems to be the path of least resistance.
February 1, 201610 yr Why's everyone so high on Pep? While City are rich, he won't have the kind of advantages he enjoyed at Barca and Bayern. At Bayern he took over a team who had just won the Treble, are ten times bigger and richer than every other German club, and they've been thrashed in two CL semis. It remains to be seen whether he'll do as well in the PL.

February 1, 201610 yr nah don't think it's because of that, but the buzz around guardiola was when he went from youth coach for barcelona b to managing the first team and having barcelona playing the infamous "tika taka" style of football which resulted in barcelona dominating teams and playing arguably the best football in the clubs history. i agree he isn't the only top manager out there, but his ideals and tactics are respected around the world. he is a very intelligent tactician and will take risks where most coaches likely wouldn't; most times it pays off, sometimes not, but it's entertaining and he's never dull. maybe someone could explain the hype more eloquently than myself, but he's certainly a masterful coach. i'm excited to see what he can do in the prem, just disappointed it will be with city Edited February 1, 201610 yr by enigma
February 1, 201610 yr That is true for sure. I think the fear comes from the likelihood that City will not just rest with appointing Pep but will also back his appointment with considerable investment in players. I couldn't even begin to predict who they'll buy but I can see 4 or 5 players being bought and I can imagine that one or two of them might be at Neymar, Lewandowski level. I'm not totally convinced by Pep, but he's clearly no mug and with the likely investment it's not inconceivable that a gap might open up between them and the rest of England's champions league level clubs.
February 1, 201610 yr We can get RDM back, then wear him down so badly over 2 legs he takes another sabbatical.
February 1, 201610 yr nice article on what his arrival in england could mean. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2607418-pep-guardiolas-premier-league-arrival-will-cause-change-far-beyond-his-new-club
