September 10, 201510 yr I don't think livermoor should have been banned under the circumstances. It's not like he is taking performance enhancing drugs, I think a suspended sentence, a long monitoring period, and some councillors and rehabilitation, is the best way to deal with this.
September 10, 201510 yr Author I don't think livermoor should have been banned under the circumstances. It's not like he is taking performance enhancing drugs, I think a suspended sentence, a long monitoring period, and some councillors and rehabilitation, is the best way to deal with this. No, he took an illegal substance and broke the law. As a professional athlete the last thing he should be doing is shoving charlie up his snoz. Ask Mutu and Bosnich.
September 10, 201510 yr So van Gaal says he doesnt expct Man Utd to win the league this season Had it been Moyes who said that, he would be absolutely blasted by the press and utd fans alike
September 10, 201510 yr So van Gaal says he doesnt expct Man Utd to win the league this season Had it been Moyes who said that, he would be absolutely blasted by the press and utd fans alike I always maintained that Moyes was handed a poisoned chalice and that SAF retired when he did for a reason. And to me the notion that SAF picked Moyes over Mourinho would also mean that SAF intentionally sabotaged MUFC. There is no way you make that decision if you want the club to keep winning major trophies after your departure. They're the same age yet their list of accolades when compared... September 10, 201510 yr SAF and Moyes are both Scottish, so maybe he was doing his compatriot a favour.
September 10, 201510 yr SAF and Moyes are both Scottish, so maybe he was doing his compatriot a favour. I remember when Busby retired, they struggled for many years. I suppose the only example where success followed success was Paisley after Shankley
September 10, 201510 yr DeGea gets a huge pay rise, still get to leave next year with the release clause in the contract, United to make some money, Real to get a super star at the right price. Everyone wins, right?
September 11, 201510 yr De Gea signing a new contract, as most people expected. I said a week ago that if De Gea signs a new deal, United will come out of it looking better than Real Madrid. They are now guaranteed to get a lot more money out of him next season. I do wonder how De Gea will play this season though. There is no doubt in most people's minds that he is leaving next season, and with United looking like they will be playing for top 4, it makes me wonder just how motivated he will be. I always maintained that Moyes was handed a poisoned chalice and that SAF retired when he did for a reason. And to me the notion that SAF picked Moyes over Mourinho would also mean that SAF intentionally sabotaged MUFC. There is no way you make that decision if you want the club to keep winning major trophies after your departure. They're the same age yet their list of accolades when compared... Even though Ferguson won the title when he left, i think he left Moyes with a very average team. If Moyes was allowed to spend the same amount of money that Van Gaal has spent, i don't think he would have struggled anywhere near as much as he did. He may well have done just as well, if not better, than Van Gaal. Edited September 11, 201510 yr by Scott Harris
September 11, 201510 yr Author Wonder how the United fans will react when De Gea plays? Not the most vocal lot granted, unless they're waving Norwich scarves around of course.
September 11, 201510 yr goalkeeper signs new contract Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has signed a new-four year contract with the club. The 24-year-old Spain international almost joined Real Madrid on transfer deadline day, but the necessary paperwork was not submitted in time. De Gea's previous contract was set to expire next summer, and his new deal includes an option for a further year. "I'm looking forward to putting a difficult summer behind me and working hard," said De Gea. "Manchester United is a special club and Old Trafford is an ideal place for me to continue to develop my career." De Gea has not played for United in the Premier League this season as manager Louis van Gaal felt he could not focus amid interest from Real. Van Gaal said he was "very pleased" De Gea "will be part of the team for many years to come". "David made a very important contribution to our performance last season and he has been the club's Player of the Year for the last two seasons," added the Dutchman.
September 11, 201510 yr https://twitter.com/ManUtd/status/642291550987358208 Great news, if at the very least, we get more money from Madrid. A year is a long time so anything can happen, on their side or ours, but this is definitely a win for us considering what might have happened. Best of all Madrid didn't get what they wanted, which is him on a free or for a low fee. Hopefully we can get him back to his playing level of last season. Edited September 11, 201510 yr by Brixtac
September 11, 201510 yr Much like Ronaldo, Saurez, Bale etc... signs a new deal so the club gets more money next Summer IMO. Not a bad parting gift.
September 11, 201510 yr I'm not 100% sure Madrid will go after him now. What will stop them from going after someone else? I hope Tibo's contract is in order.
September 11, 201510 yr I'm not 100% sure Madrid will go after him now. They want, they eventually get.
September 11, 201510 yr They want, they eventually get. The thing with De Gea is that the Madrid fans overwhelmingly did not want. They thought it was too much money to spend on a keeper when they had Keylor Navas doing well. They also thought the whole De Gea debacle was an insult to Navas. It was basically Perez pushing it with the FSW just agreeing with Perez. De Gea presumably still wants to go to Spain as that is where his girlfriend is, but I'm not 100% sure he'll go to Madrid anymore or whether they will pay the higher fee. Either way, it is great for us as we get to keep the best keeper in the world for at least another season. Edited September 11, 201510 yr by Brixtac
September 11, 201510 yr I don't know why he would have signed that contract unless he was assured that if Real came for him in January or next summer they would let him leave. In return, he gets to actually play this season. Benefits both parties. Edited September 11, 201510 yr by Jonty
September 11, 201510 yr The pessimist in me says that he signed it because we told him he would not play at all this year unless he did sign a new contract. This may or may not have a buyout clause, I don't know. The optimist says that he blames RM for the breakdown in the deal, he has repaired his relationship with LVG and is now ready to work his way back into the team. Whether he will go, next summer no one knows. I assume it mostly depends now on whether Madrid will be back in for him. Doubt he'll go in January as they have two very good keepers in Navas and Casilla.
September 11, 201510 yr either way utd look like mugs and aiint winning the league for another season, agent madrid!
September 11, 201510 yr De Gea's new contract is great news for United. After already getting him for an extra year, they will now get a much larger fee next summer if he goes, or if he doesn't, they'll get his services for a long time. RM effing up the paperwork is a huge bonus for United. Edited September 11, 201510 yr by RichardCFC
September 11, 201510 yr Worked out well for United. They gave kept a top keeper. Who would rather be elsewhere. That's a huge difference than them keeping a player who would run through walls for the club.
September 11, 201510 yr Who would rather be elsewhere. That's a huge difference than them keeping a player who would run through walls for the club. Depends on De Gea's character. He was apparently unhappy with being left out at the start of this season. He could be the sort to just knuckle down and get on with it, giving his all.
