Kevin De Bruyne

If he signs I don't really know how the whole thing will work out. He's not exactly quick, so if he plays on the wing instead of Navas it sort of hinders Silva as he has been outstanding this season with all that pace around him. If he drops back and plays beside Toure, they'll have two very good players going forward but very limited protection of the back four- I honestly think it's a very weird signing

You put an arm round the lad and assure him he is part of your plans even if not playing every game at the moment. You try and show a bit of faith in him and give him more game time. Oscar, Ramires and Willian have all had some shockers but still get played - KDB really did not get many oppurtinities and Mourinho gave up on him too early.

He was German player of the season and could now be fetching a fee in the region of £50M - £32M more than we let him go for. You may not call that a bad decision by I certainly wouldn't call it a good one.

So lie to the man and tell him everything will be alright? Seems he already knew he wasnt a major part of the teams plans which is why he wanted to leave. Should we have done the same to Lukaku? They both wanted a first team place, neither was good enough, or preferred, whichever terminology works for you.

I have no doubt we'll regret selling Lukaku but until KDB proves he can hack it as a big fish in a big pond we did the right thing

Just a reminder, Kagawa won individual accolades a plenty, Giggs won player of the year without doing anything, and Hazard had to wait until everyone better than him had fled to Spain to win it. I have no doubt that KDB is a fraud and will get found out. I've seen him plenty the last couple of years. Most overrated player in Europe by far and an ultimate YouTube player.

Wolfsburg have accepted an 'astonishing fee' for KDB. Most have it at 54m pounds. Thats 100m+ on two players and nearly 140 all together.

We dont have much room to talk, but this is getting out of hand.

Do you think he would be worth anywhere near 50million if he stayed? I view it as Matic, they became they players they are because they left to get regular football. They would be a shadow of themselves if they were kept as bit part squad players.

Just out of interest how long would you give him to prove himself? (I'm assuming it's longer than ten minutes)

I think you have it backwards, regret selling Lukaku? He is still sh*t, a very average striker. He looks nothing better than he did years ago.

KDB however is a completely different story. Great player, great vision, has improved a lot at Wolfsburg. You can really see his progress from years ago. He's a player that needs games to stay in top form so if City give him that, we'll soon be regretting him leaving.

Hes only 22 and in just over 3 seasons he's started he has 57 goals to his name. He's nowhere near his peak and he's already good for 15 a season. He's average?

Id have given KDB all the time he'd wanted if he trained hard and didnt throw a fit and ask to leave after I sat him for a few games. I dont think he fit into Jose's style anyway so Jose decided he wasnt worth the hassle to keep around.

Theres a big difference between Willian/Pedro and KDB. Im not saying KDB is rubbish but he just doesnt fit how Jose likes to play and I dont think hes suited to play in England. Mata didnt figure in Jose's plans either and Ive never heard a bad word from him about it. If anything Mata had more right to be ticked off given how good he was for us.

Maybe he can play as a 10 but that still requires a high workrate and tracking back in this league. Can you ever see KDB marking someone or taking them out of the game like Oscar has? Where would you put KDB in the team if you were manager?

I can see KDB being a lot more consistent than Oscar and having more impact on games than Oscar. IF Oscar does get sold at some point in the future, clubs won't be looking to part with £40m - £50m. Have to admit that I would rather have KDB in our squad right now than Oscar, or for that matter Ramires, Willian (and of course the likes of Moses, Salah and Cuadrado - who were all favoured over him). But what's done is done.

Sigh.

He did train hard, Jose mentioned this a few times. He didn't throw a fit, unless your definition of a fit is completely different. It wasn't just a "few games", it was months of him not featuring at all.

Not sure why people feel the need to blame either party, both will feel they were proven right in the end. Jose won the league and KDB became one of the best in world in his position.

"And the first game of the season against Hull City he played. For the second game against Manchester United, he played. The third game of the season was the Super Cup in Prague, I decided not to play him. For the fourth match, in the Premier League, he was on the bench. And he was not happy. He told me he was not happy.

“He was not training very well and he was saying: ‘I can’t give you more. This is just my way.’

Sounds like he turned pretty quickly.

That's in reference to how he was training early on, afterwards he worked harder and Jose commented on it saying he desevrred to play.

Behind the striker and in front of the midfield, KDB will get you close to 15-20 goals per season and numerous assists.

That's the point people are making. A lot of fans didn't want to see him leave as he was building up to the player he is now. Another loan deal and he would be in our team.

Anyone who has questioned his attitude clearly doesn't watch him. His workrate is phenomenal.

No one makes youtube videos of the long shots that dont go in.

Luiz woulda smashed that one too , probably.

City are now going to lose the good balance they had in their team, it was working well, using Navas, out wide to stretch teams which opens up space for making everything go through Silva centrally, De Bruyne will want to come inside which means less space for Silva.

City were also starting to counter attack more this season and it was working well for them, now they lose the pace of Navas and therefore be less of a threat on the counter, so they go back to how they were last season, and have only really improved their left side with the Kolarov and Sterling partnership, this De Bruyne signing is a strange one imo, and I think the saying 'if it aint broke don't fix it' will come back to haunt them.

Good for us though!!

I can see Silva shifting out to the left slightly and using Kolarov as an overlapping attacking force. Sterling on the right and De Bruyne in the middle.

Or swap De Bruyne and Silva but he too would be wasted.

Unless they plan on dropping Fernandinho which would leave them exposed at the back but frightening in attack.

Jose said he would also have liked to keep him yet here we are.

I wouldnt want anyone who thinks they shouldnt have to compete for a starting job. If they pay him 250k a week as is rumored its beyond me how this is good for City. Those are Ronaldo wages

De Bruyne actually favours the right side so anyone claming he'll ruin their balance clearly hasn't watched him play. He gets an alarming amount of assists from crosses on the right flank. Hell, he even plays there for Belgium.

He's not one of the best in the world, folk are just being silly now.

An argument can be made for it, not one I'm interested in making though as it wasn't really my main point.

Jose says a lot of things.

Again, KDB didn't think he could walk into the team without working for it. He just wanted chances to prove himself. They won't pay him 250k, Aguero is their highest earner and he's on less than that. He would most likely be on the same wages as Silva and Sterling, somewhere between £150k-£180k.
