I don't normally get involved with this kind of thing but as you have basically quoted me twice I'll bite on this one..

If started with Glenn is an indication of when you started following the team, your "new" by my definition. And if you read my posts you'd probably have an indication that I don't fall in to any kind of new category..

As for the forum, I've been posting on this forum the 12 years this is the only forum I post on and although have only met a handful of posters in person feel that what we have here is a small family of soughts, so oppo fans coming in an telling us how to act in our home is not welcome in my opinion.

This scouse mug has pretty much put an underhanded sligh dig on every post. I dont need to mince my words and be a sligh c**t... Im quite happy to call him a prick

I pre-date Hoddle by a few years, I just love the man and what he did for our club which I think forever gets overlooked.

I've no problem with personal insults either way, it's just the belittling of other clubs that I can't stand.

Anyway, I agree with Gem that it's best to leave that conversation.

Lets hope we got saved from an expensive mistake, don't wish bad on the young man but Everton have handled this like idiots, if he wants to go and we are willing to pay over the odds why on earth are you blocking, 40 mil could do more for the club than 1 defender stuck in a team with a manager who doesn't know how to set up a defence

I don't have a problem with them rejecting bid, he's their player and they're entitled to value him at whatever they choose.

My problem is with them pretending they are purer  than pure and are making a stand for football by refusing to now to money when the relaity is everyone knows it's just that they feel like they've not been offered enough.

I would like to sign off from this thread now and whatever the outcome, wish you lot well for the season and hope that relations between our clubs have not been damaged beyond repair. In the end I think it is the people who turn out to watch and spend their hard earned who own the game, we can swap insults and go tribal, but those that know the score understand our stance, regardless of their frustration. I am sure our fixtures will have some added spice, but I really hope that we can keep a sense of humour going, that is the fun and a big reason why I continue to go.

Best of luck. It looks like Galloway and Browning are another two prospects.

Really think it's time to move on from Howard though, I think he is one of the weakest starting keepers in the league.

Another day, same sh1t from the scousers, I don't know how Martinez was able to say ' we are a big  club' with a straight face, must be a scousers thing. I'm surprised he didn't condemn the fans for abusing Stone, I'm sure Stone can't wait for the next home game.

Stones forced to flee his home by Everton fans.

Masked United fans camped outside Rooney's house throughout the night asking him to "come out and talk".

Gerrard's family receiving death threats if he were to join Chelsea.

Arsenal fans chasing down Nasri on a motorway.

And we're the scummy ones.

Stones has been forced to flee home after being terrorised by furious Everton fans. (The Sun)

There is a reason why only The Sun are reporting this.

Papers are bloodthirsty when it comes to a story to get clicks, but few are stupid enough to put something so slanderous in when there is little substance there.

Every club has its bad eggs mate. Let's not forget months ago it was a small group of Chelsea fans being racist on a train in France. Does that mean all of you are racist? No. Does that mean you can cherry pick incidents and completely forget about your own? No.

Because they're the first to know about it, just like they were the first to know he was handing in a transfer request, news which was ridiculed by Evertonians on these boards but turned out to be true.

an Everton blogger on Talksport says that the Sun has gone and told a whole bunch of porkies and the story has been withdrawn???   Anyone confirm this...I am not a Sun subscriber.

What will happen at Everton this season? They finished in the bottom half last season, in 11th spot, I reckon they'll be around that this season, they may scrape into the Europa League but if I was a betting man I'd say not, and a major reason for that is Martinez, who may be decent but no more than that. Yes he won the FA Cup with Wigan, a phenomenal achievement, but he also got them relegated in the same season, and Everton hired him on the back of that. Everton will be his biggest job IMO, he'll get sacked at some point and after that it's all downhill.

Why do I say all this? Because I'm thinking of next summer. Next summer I think Stones or his agent will force through the move. They'll have kept him for this season but it won't be allowed to happen again. He will not be denied his dream move, particularly after another season of mediocrity, with nothing much to look forward to. Yes, there may be more clubs in for him, and maybe Everton can demand a bigger fee, but maybe not. He'll have one year less on his contract and in all likelihood the only other club that will be interested is Utd, because City have spent bucketloads on centre-backs. We'll have two advantages over Utd, the first being we were in for him first and he already wants to join us, and the second being we've now overtaken them on the pitch, and while Jose's here, that's unlikely to change. On the other hand they are a bigger club and they're in the North-West, and money is seemingly no object up there. Madrid, Barca, these sort of clubs? The only time they'll possibly be interested is if he's an elite player, when he's older, and they won't offer half as much, because he won't have that homegrown premium over there.

How does he force through the move? That's easy, he'll have thought it through by then, with the help of his advisor. He goes into Roberto's office, he says, "Why are you f**king up my career? Jose's a ten times better manager than you, I'm sick and tired of playing for you."

A confidential conversation that leaves Everton with no choice, because they can't keep hold of him in those circumstances, knowing his displeasure will spread around the camp like wildfire, and knowing he's not committed. He just has to kick up a bit of a stink, which may go against his nature, but a year ruminating will force his hand. I guarantee you he won't be there next season, no way, he'll have outgrown them. Everton are keeping hold of him which I understand and admire, but in the scheme of things it won't make much difference. They'll still be sh*t and they'll still lose him. Those are the facts.

The Telegraph are saying he's devastated by Everton's stance but I reckon he'll get what he wants next summer, by which time he'll have a year's more experience and we'll have a certain spot for him in the team, and even if his stock has risen and he costs more, well, the new television deal kicks in plus international rights so the chances are we'll be willing to pay it as transfer fees go up as a consequence of everybody getting richer.

Edit: This time next year he'll be wearing a better shade of blue. That's just my take on the matter.

Shall we just skip the actual matches and just have all this soap opera.  I mean so far we've had the Eva thing, all the transfer saga of Pogba and Stones, the whole "is Jose happy/going to leave, it's his third season".  Do we actually need the kicking about of a ball on the pitch?

And we've only played 3 matches of football. It's gonna be a long season.

an Everton blogger on Talksport says that the Sun has gone and told a whole bunch of porkies and the story has been withdrawn??? Anyone confirm this...I am not a Sun subscriber.

You don't need to be a Sun subscriber. Google The Sun, click on football, story's still there.

He's the one telling porkies.

I am sure our fixtures will have some added spice

These things happen in football, if we weren't going after Stones, it would be someone else and we would all be disagreeing, just as we are here, so I hope that no grudges are held. Personally, I like the blue team in Merseyside a lot more than the red team and every time you play them, I'm rooting for Everton. As far as the added spice goes, the 6-3 was fairly spicey, but a little bit more spice would make it more interesting.

Everton could have chosen to negotiate in good faith, come to a mutually beneficial agreement, wished the player well, pocketed the huge transfer fee and explained to the fans that this was a terrific deal and in the best interest of Everton football club.

Instead we've had stupid posturing and a cynical attempt to turn the fans against a vulnerable 21 year old kid who has done nothing more than to want to further his career.

This is what Martinez describes as 'looking after' John Stones. What a sorry shambles of a football club. The sooner Stones gets out of there the better for him.

If Everton keep hold of him for this season then fair play to them, they held out. However, I think that they're putting their pride ahead of their heads here because £35mil for a player like Stones is an insane amount of money.

Well this is going to be Stones's first season as an actual first choice CB, if he's valued that highly when he wasn't even first choice then I can't see his value dropping when he's playing more regularly and with Euros round the corner too.

And if the value does drop, it won't be by much and it would probably benefit Everton anyway as they would have more of a reason to keep him.

Don't think Stones value will increase this season personally regardless of how much he plays.

Don't know why the Euros gets mentioned, three matches of getting tonked by Denmark, Sweden and Greece isn't going to change anyone's opinion of him (presuming he even plays at all).

I don't even think he will start for England at the euro's. Rightly or wrongly it will cahill and jagielka, however I can see Smalling pushing aswell if has a good season.

His market value isnt going anywhere. One less year on his contract, he's already made it clear he wants to leave, Everton have been irrational about it, who is going to plop down 50m+ on him? They'll be lucky if they get 40 again

No good getting sour grapes about it. We have to move on.

Still I can't help noting that any concept of the players interests is clearly irrelevant to Everton. That is entirely their right, they pay the wages, but let's just avoid the hypocrisy about loyalty.

the thing that gets me with everton is we loaned them lukaku for a whole season, then loaned them atsu, then we sold them lukaku and they still owe us money (apparenty) for him. talk about wanting everything in your favour, yet they aren't willing to negotiate with us or anyone for the sale of their players - the self entitlement of that club is a joke. Martinez is a hypocrite too, especially because he couldn't move quick enough from wigan to everton to improve his own career, yet he won't allow a young player to move to improve his.

Everton have had us off here, we look like mugs now.

Trying to bully a club into selling a player who they have no need to sell and who is under contract.

Some of you guys sound like Man Utd fans when a player dares to leave them "how dare they!" We're not entitled to sign anyone, transfer request or not, he's a young lad and he'll still keep playing well as he enjoys his football.

Shame because he's a good player, but the money was too much anyway, hopefully we wait until his contract is up and nab him on a free when he's even better

Without wanting to sound like an Arsenal fan regarding a fallen through transfer deal, and claim that 'I never wanted him anyway', I can't say I am fussed if this is indeed dead in the water.

I wanted Stones for the fact he was young & English and liked the idea of him and Zouma forming a partnership for the next 10 years, potentially.

If this deal was ever going to be done it was going to see us pay £40M+, that I am sure of, and quite frankly that is insane.

I am not one of the types who cares about net spend and all that bollocks but I do believe there is a time to draw the line and walk away and that would have been it.

He has looked good from what I have seen of him but I would be lying of I said I had seen him play 90 minutes more than a couple of times... I would bet money that is the case for the majority of people who were getting very excited about the prospect of signing him and bringing our the old 'world class' lines etc.

Everton, as a club, have stuck to their guns and you would have to say fair play. If we took that approach when the likes of Real Madrid come knocking I doubt many would complain (although I wouldn't actually want to force a player to stay against his wishes I must say).

Everton fans however have been so worried about convincing themselves that they are a massive club (bigger than Chelsea) whilst also calling Stones a rat and a rentboy etc that they seemingly forgotten that he may still be their play next season. I guess they will now welcome him back with open arms and pretend it was someone else that was shouting vile abuse at  one of 'their own'. They may not have all the money in the world but at least they have class eh...

"Trying to bully a club into selling a player who they have no need to sell and who is under contract"

You mean bidding for a player, who wants to join us, whilst the transfer window is open?

What on earth is this Arsenal like mentality that has now drifted into the heads of Chelsea fans on this board. Its suddenly a matter of 'class'.

Since when was bidding for a player 'bullying' ?

Everton can say no, as they have, or they can negotiate. Its a business transaction.

Some people need to pull themselves together.

Stones is their main man whereas Lukaku and Atsu surplus for us. Don't be sour. We'll sort this defence problem somehow.
