Martial, Rooney and Fellaini have all been chosen ahead of Rashford, and are all sidelined if any of them were fit he wouldn't be playing. Also every fit senior player Man U had were in the starting line up so there really wan't another choice.

So those comparing this to when we played Hazard up front, haven't grasped the situation Man U are in there was literally no one he could played instead of youth, if he played Mata up top that meant playing a different youngster in midfield. There squad is thread bare which is why these youngsters are getting a chance, they haven't been chosen ahead of senior players there are no senior players.

Thing is, all these young lads at United getting chances due to injuries, what happens to them next season when the likes of Luke Shaw, Rooney, Martial etc. are all fit again?

They've taken their chances this year but will they continue to be involved?

Call me a cynic but I don't think that they will all have continued involvement beyond this season.

A lot will depend on who their next coach is. If it does turn out to be Mourinho, then it's almost certain to be NO.

True, but he has been doing this all season. First game against Spurs, they had Johnstone, McNair and Pereira on the bench.

Maybe it is just a combination of circumstances that has led to this but it doesn't excuse the fact that we haven't done anything with the best academy in Europe except give Loftus-Cheek a fringe role.

And now the Europa League is a possibility there's probably even less chance of that and it's a real shame because the potential is there but we waste it every single year. At least at United there's some people on the board who have a strong belief in the heart of the team being in the young players who come through and yesterday I think I understood that properly. We don't have that at all and we're going to lose the last remaining bit when JT leaves.

That's a huge part of a football club's soul to be missing and it makes us a poorer club.

Usually I would agree, but I think the utd fans, including red nose, enjoyed yesterday so much that it will be impossible for LVG to ignore the youngsters now.

people are expecting utd to lose anyway, so why not give the youth a chance. meanwhile, we are in a position where we still need to reach top 6. utd are 3 points off top four - big difference. if they were playing poorly under lvg and in our position, heads would roll, but for now they're underdogs going into many games and can afford to take risks.

I don't think that's true to be honest. United can still go for 4th and Van Gaal is still fighting for his job, or at least a job next year.

We on the other hand have no expectations on us for the first time in over a decade. If we're not going to give young players meaningful minutes now when there's no pressure on then it's never likely to happen is it?

We've seen this before with United, remember macheda? Fantastic first 2 games and then failed to make it at United.

They have been forced into playing some youngsters, but in all likelihood the gaps in their squad that have given these players the opportunity, will most likely be filled in the summer with international players, especially if Mourinho comes in.

Maybe the board will look at it and give Giggs a chance as he would be more likely to put trust in the youth players, since he has known them for a few years.

Macheda is a good example of a player who in the end wasn't good enough for United. the point is though he was given his chance to see at what level he is and how high is his ceiling as a player. Too many of ours have just not been given the opportunity when the circumstances have allowed. We now have the chance in the final eleven matches to blood a couple of youngsters, can we afford to miss this chance now?

Yesterdays match reminded me of Fergie's Fledglings, the ones who were tried in the late eighties. The whole 'class' in the end didn't make it to their expectations, it didn't stop SAF trying again and when he played those his job was in serious peril.

He was very good before he got taken off. Linked up with the midfield well, had some nice touches, played some decent passes and got in behind their defense a few times. He messed up his chance to score but it's probably the only thing he got wrong all night.

Both him and Kenedy looked very sharp tonight and didn't look out of place at all. They both shown the hunger needed to play at this level too. I honestly wouldn't mind if both of them started every game for us for the rest of the season. Every time they play they seem to have a positive impact on the team.

I think Rooney will start to decline quite rapidly quite soon.

I think it's already happened. Rooney is pretty poor nearly every time i watch him these days, no way should he be starting for England in the Euro's. We all know he will though.

You're right, the media hype has affected my judgement even though I can't stand him.

Rooney looks another example of a player who was burned out young, probably in no small way due to his own lazy approach to fitness. Probably got one more top season in him but after that...meh

He's been on the decline for a while, his peak years are far behind him.

How great was his first touch? Had no idea. Okay, he completely messed up his touch in the through ball but otherwise he was impressive. We should start him more now. No reason Guus should keep him on the bench too much.

His directness being actually a striker is a valuable asset to him and to Chelsea. Our lads like Haz and Willian especially hold in to the ball too much and slow down a possible break.

Fantastic talent and if Conte is the Manager next season and wants to deploy a 2 striker system I really believe he will flourish & compliment a more physical striker like Costa.

He's definitely better on the wing cutting in. As a central striker he lacks the nous to lead the line and play with his back to the goal, maybe lacks a bit of physicality too. Good prospect though.

I kind of like him through the middle, he offers something a bit different to the way costa plays that position.

I hope by the end of this season, he has cemented his status as an able deputy for costa, and we go into next season with costa, traore, and possibly solanke.

I don't really see the point in having a 3rd choice striker like falcao, remy, or pato, who will be on big wages, and will hardly ever play.

Agree.

We got Dominic Solanke who scored 40 goals last season and Tabby Abraham who did the same and still doing this season. They both want to play high-level football and aren't at Chelsea for money.
