I think it is only fair that we criticize Gus for the team selection and praise him for the substitutions for they worked. Also, based on what i am seeing I see Gus as taking a safety first approach. While he is going to want to win every game, His team selection sounds like it will be so as not to lose. Now, is that just him being cautious or maybe he does not trust the players enough or has not figured what is the best formation to get the most out of these players I dont know.

Were playing just as sh*t, defending worse which I thought wasn't possible and he has made zero change. The football is just as tedious only we've had a bit of luck go our way, thats the only difference.

If we kept a clean sheet or won then it would have been a good call. We did neither, it was poor management and so far guus has been disappointing.

I dont think Matic was an automatic selection under GH, so this i think is his first selection. I think GH was experimenting and the experiment flopped. So we see the substitution. I can see the logic behind starting Matic. Matic and Mikel are the only 2 physical midfielders we have so there is sense in starting them.  If only MAtic could find his form back.

Everton scored even after we subbed Matic. I honestly think that with our current form, We just don't have the players to win consistently. It is a tall task for any manager and it is becoming more evident now.

We're currently on the longest unbeaten streak in the league, we're also fifth in the form table (last 6 games) having scored more goals than any other side in that time. This is all without our best attacking player; I think we are due a run of form, hopefully we can boost our confidence with a strong display against Arsenal.

 

We've got about a month until our first leg tie against PSG - I hope we can pull it all together by then.

That's true but I think confidence winning every week brings is an important factor.
