Its the board which makes the signings, as simple as that. Its the board which signed cesc and Costa for 60mil pounds, hazard for 32mil, Kante for 30mil, etc etc. 

I think the board does take an input of the player, profile that the manager wants, probably a list too but at the end, does what is sustainable for the club (aka alex sandro).

I do agree about the last part of your post though. And i feel, this is where Conte shines. Getting the best out of players.

Maybe, maybe not, but he has certainly got a lot out of them. 

I figured they were his signings given that they're Serie A players and Conte seems to think of that league highly. I couldn't recall us ever in the market for either before Conte came, I don't think any big clubs were actually, so they were both gambles that look to be paying off. 

And don't forget Mourinho completely shunned Moses, Conte must have rated his ability to keep him as a starter and look how good he's been.

Not directing this at you but would our fans still have preferred Llorente to Bats? Bats seems to be winning Conte over gently, Llorente can’t seem to buy a goal for Spurs presently.

I'm glad we didn't get Llorente. Posted on here at the time that I couldn't see the point of us signing him so glad he ended up at Spu*s.

I would prefer the manager got the players he wanted. I would prefer we had a board that backed the manager, particularly one that's proved himself as Conte did last year.

 

It appears we offered £5m (derisory) for Lllorente, and only offered him a one year deal, which is our policy with over-30s. Tottenham (the tight-arses of the Prem) were able to make both club and player a better offer, which says it all. We didn't back Conte and I believe it's caused a serious rift with the board. Sure the board can say he has no resale value and he's 30+, but there's been a lot of good players over the years you could say that about.

 

As for Llorente failing to score for Spurs, I don't think he's had many minutes, so it's too early to judge, but I guess people make way too hasty judgements in football. Regardless of all that however, it shouldn't be about who you or me want.

 

As for Bats, he'll never be a Conte player in my book, sure he'll score goals but being a lone striker is about way more than that, and I don't think Conte knows what he's going to get with Michy, and he can't trust him to do the things he asks. That's just my observation anyway.

Our board barely offer any protection whatsoever for our managers, that's one of the sole issues for our flop seasons. How can we expect good performances when we can so easily give in to media pressure and player power.

Got it wrong today Conte.  I think you are a good manager but ffs come off the Fabregas in a midfield 2.  Just stop.  He cannot do it, you ask too much.  Every single game he plays in midfield 2 w fabregas we concede midfield.  You will lose your job if you continue with it, I truly fear for it.

I just popped in to see how many of our stupendously knowledgeable pundits managed to blame Fabregas and Cahill for the first two goals and I find one of our best armchair supporters is betting against us in a critical match, and not even bothering to use his Sky subscription to watch the match.  I was right about the twat.  I'd NEVER bet against Chelsea, ever.  It just ain't right.  What a w**ker!  But he has a HUGE football knowledge, obviously, and a huge amount of loyalty.

How do you know what the performance was like you turned your telly off. 

I'll fault him for tonight in playing Fabregas, very bad move, I know I didn't say it to begin with but surely everyone was sceptical with him there and Drinkwater on the bench.  Drinkwater has played a decent amount of minutes and in those minutes he's put good quality, he should have started tonight or at least came on at halftime, not at the 70th minute. 

Regardless, everyone makes mistakes, Conte is the man for this team. I'm just sad because I know how the board operates, if it were up to me I would publicly back him and support him. 

But enough negativity, we have Drinkwater fit and almost Kante, United is a big obstacle but we should be able to get this nonsense out the way. I don't think we have huge problems, I think we just play in a very fragile system, once we get that last piece to the puzzle we'll be fine, first it was Hazard, now it's Kante.

Yeah he got things wrong tonight. When is he going to realise that Baka and Fab in a midfield 2 just DOESNT WORK. Can't wait until Kante comes back, hopefully against United, our midfield is really struggling, and to rub salt into the wound apparently from what I heard is Matic was MOTM tonight, talk about twisting the knife.

 

Conte has his work cut out to lift this group of players for Sunday.

I can only assume that his decision to pair Fabregas and the French Veron together was influenced purely by fitness and injury...

A back 3 is never going to handle pressure like that. Roma were never pressured enough, Ferdinand actually brought up Fabregas's positioning and lack of covering which caused the first goal to happen. We are always going to struggle with diagonal balls in a back 3, which is why we need to close players down who cross the ball at the halfway line, it's hard to do that consistently when you're playing with 10 men, there is no balance. And let's face it, Fabregas is like playing with 10 men when the opposition has the ball, he's been the scapegoat for the past weeks for a  reason.
