Jose Mourinho thread

Yeah he's only ever really known success, we saw when Barca were tearing up La Liga he lost it and started doing bizzare stuff like eye gauging other teams staff.

When things are going well and behind the scenes stuff is in sync Jose is an animal who can rarely be stopped however when something goes wrong he tends to not be able to handle it to the extent it becomes a disaster instead of a blip. It's why he can't sustain a long term project, once his effect has died down he doesn't have the tools to rebuild players belief and trust.

It's interesting to see how United deal with it all because we have always heard them say they show respect and do things right yet they have a out of control Jose on their hands who will walk out of pressers and blame everyone and their gran before he takes any responsibility.

Taking the same backroom staff everywhere he goes isn't helping him, either. No fresh views.

It was easy for them to have that stance when they had Fergie but outside of Fergie and Busby era's they have sacked manager's at a very high rate and will continue to do so. With the Galactico route they are going down with the transfer's it's going to bring huge pressure for whoever's incharge and in time that club will be every bit as high maintenance as Madrid.

I wish they did stick to there stance regarding manager's tho, if Moyes got a second season he would have done irreparable damage, they are still suffering from his spell at it is.

Huge match for him on Wednesday. If he loses it, the United fans will get the knives out for him.

Its good job be Jose as his record in finals is incredible. He knows, unfortunately how to get teams over the line and just do enough.

Biggest match of Jose's career? Lose this and even his biggest supporters will surely start questioning him.

Is he at the start of something, or will this be it? Hard to know!

Yes, he's at the start of spending about £300m to add to the near £200m he spent last season in an attempt to surround himself with as much attacking talent as possible to help cover his coaching deficiencies

Benitez at Chelsea: 4th in the league, won EL, League cup semi, FA cup semi - regarded as a failure, or a mediocre season at best.

Mourinho at Utd: 6th in the league, won EL and League cup, FA cup QF - unqualified success

I think Benitez is regarded as a failure because we were 2nd when he took over and we lost two semis and that world club final because of his ineptness. Now I will say I am greatful for that EL win but we should have done more that season.

Jose for all his faults in the league delivered two trophies and the EL has more riding on it than it did when we won it. Overall League wise they have massively underachieved but they won two trophies and got CL football.

Id say overall both were/have been disappointing but both had successful seasons because of silverware.

When Mourinho took over they were joint favourites for the league, though. Could also be argued that his ineptitude screwed up their title challenge and put them out of the FA cup (tactical rotation fouling). Not to mention the amount of money spent.

Also the EL only has so much riding on it because he failed in the main objective - which Benitez achieved.

It's a successful season for most clubs but the resources they have, the squad they have, the money they spent and the manager they have its not great.

The EL rightly or wrongly is considered a hindrance to the big clubs in England because it disrupts their domestic season and it's a second tier European trophy. Jose himself ridiculed it but because he was a spectacular failure in the league he had to win it or lose his job really.

United are a footballing powerhouse off the park and on it this season they have been boring, inconsistent and brutal to watch. It's not a successful season to finish in the CL for a club of that size, to win the CL or league is a success and they did neither.

jose is leaching onto this 'treble' because he failed to win any of the important titles yet again. I find it very hypocritical of him to celebrate it like he did after ridiculing other clubs including ours for winning it.

Its Jose at his best now though, his charm is non existent and is his humility. He's an angry, jealous serial complainer now and I for one am getting sick of his antics now.

You're doing FSW a dis-service ... we finished 3rd in the league that season :-)

Exactly!!

If United were in the title race this season Mourinho would have binned off the EL at the first opportunity.

I just can't stand him no more, thankful for what he done for us but the comments, how he acts just gets on my bloody nerves.

He celebrated like he won the CL yesterday only looking back at 2013 where he said he would never want to win the EL. Great job parking the bus vs a U23 side.

I think Utd will be fed up soon enough with his antics and football. This isnt 2004/5 anymore and hes lagging behind for me once he comes out and plays vs the giants.

The world cup final was on him, but what did he really do wrong in the domestic semi's? We smashed Swansea at home and lost because of an double Ivanovic brain freeze and City were just simply better than us. We were actually 3rd when he took over, people cite to the difference between us and United points wise compared to when he took over and the end but United dropped only 9 points in 22 games between his take over and securing the title, does anyone really believe our 12/13 squad was capable of such sheer consistency to keep up? We could have had a manager who was prime Jose, 2009 Hiddink and Conte rolled into one and we wouldn't have been able to keep up. Jose himself returned the following year added more depth and even signed a decent striker yet he instantly wrote off our title chances saying we weren't ready, so if we weren't ready then, why on earth were we expected to keep up with the relentless pace United were setting the season before?

I didn't want him to stay full time, but under the circumstances he did a good job for me, he achieved the objective and delivered the bonus of a trophy, all with a limited first Xl and next to no squad depth, which also put's Jose's whining about fatigue this season in perspective.

Maybe you're right on the semis (although Aguero should have been off in the City game), one big mistake ge dud make against Swansea was not starting Demba Ba. He did an bit more than adequate job IMO, cost us so many points in the league with dreadful substitutes. Delivering the Europa League was fantastic but we should have had more that season.

He had to rest Ba at some point, Ba was injury prone and we had midweek games for at least the next four weeks, as much as i hated Torres playing, he had to do it sometime. League football and reacting to situation's has always been his weakness, that's why he never won it at Liverpool. What he is good at however is rotating, well sometimes he over does it (like that infamous home game vs QPR) but given the excruciating fixture list and the fact we had very little depth Rafa was the best man to see us through this particular time, the same way Conte was the best man to take over last summer as he is proven with reconstructing a squad on it's knees and the same way if Conte leaves Allegri would be the ideal option for us as he is proven in coping with the pressure of taking on an already successful team and carrying on and even building on the success. Roman isn't an idiot, he knew how the fans felt about Benitez, it put him off appointing him when AVB got sacked so to actually go ahead and do it months later despite all the sh*t that would have kicked off he clearly felt Benitez was the man to see us through that particular time.

Fair enough, good points.

It was interesting watching JM at Utd, lots liked him as they saw the style of football improving after Van Gaal a few others were getting annoyed by his moaning attitude claiming everything was unfair to Utd.

Obviously with all those home draws there was something wrong at Old Trafford and he has had a lot of injuries.

The unanswered question is whether the draws were due to bad luck or another factor.

So JM picked up an early trophy with the league Cup and left it to the last match of the season in a winner takes all knockout final to put Utd into the top competition next season.

His job is now safe  and next season I expect him to rebuild and challenge for the title. I'm glad he left the Bridge and didn't want him back the second time yet I still respect him as a top manager and now adversary.

I think he's being very emotional about this CL win because of the immense pressure he found himself under. He would have been killed in the media if they lost this final and his reputation might have taken irreparable damage. For now his head is above water and he can breathe again. Now on to next season.
