No they aren't really that stupid. Centre backs don't grow on trees and we aren't the only ones with money anymore.

Wonder if some people are stupid to ask the questions they ask when looking at the team from the outside. No stakeholder consultation apart from with other fans yet they're so much more enlightened than the board. Like poster above said the market dynamics is different. No more like taking cake from a baby.

After a long, ongoing saga involving the transfer of Maksimovic, Napoli should now be prepared to up their offer. €25m + €4m bonus will be the new bid from De Laurentiis' club. However, it seems that Torino will still reject this latest offer. The defender's entourage have already begun the process of engaging Torino for a contract renewal, but a deal, especially in light of the offers that continue to come in, has not yet been finalized.

Totally agree, it smacks of us not getting our first choice targets (Bonnuci?) and just thinking OK we'll get Koulibaly instead then that's dragged on and it's not the sure thing we thought it was.

We didn't plan for a third option because we're not used to being in this position hence the links to Lindof and Kone. We've simply never had to work down a list of potential targets as the majority of players come begging to play or we just pay over the odds.

It's an odd situation to find ourselves in and I would hope that we don't sign a player just to plug the gap until January or even next summer with the hope we'll have more luck.

Spot on mate, but I don't believe with the range of scouting network I'd imagine we have, we can only identify two targets who would be an improvement on Cahill & an aging JT or that we can't even identify a decent full back from either side to replace Ivan. Surely to god we have he means to identify that?

Now, maybe the club have looked at these players already and they're simply by for sale or they don't rate them (which would be bizarre because IMO they are all huge improvements on what we have) but the fact we've not even been linked with anyone since Koulibaly is a bit of a worry.

The club should be identifying as many targets as possibly for problem areas providing the quality is there.

I'm starting to think that we don't want to move for a world class defender because 1) Zouma will be back soon hopefully and 2) we have Christensen returning next season who could easily be a starter if his progress continues at the same rate.

Strange thinking if true, we need to deal with the here and now. If we lose any of JT, Cahill or Ivan to injury we'll be f**ked.

It doesn't take a scouting network to work out who the best players are.  The player's club has to be willing to sell as well.  50 million bids mean little if said club rely on that player to qualify for champions league or survival in their top flight.  It's a two way street

I watched a youtube-comp of him and he looks very impressive. Tough, smart, athletic and a leader of the line. Senegalese version of JT. I admit it is a youtube-compilation but probably for those reasons his price tag is 50m...

At this stage, yes.

Just pay the money. If we had other targets too then I could understand budgeting but we have 2/3 targets and about 60/80m to spend. One will cost £15/20m and that leaves more then enough for Koulibaly.
