November 9, 20169 yr FA cup against Liverpool at home 1996, 0:2 down at half time up steps Zola, Hughes and Vialli and tore them a new arsehole - no wonder Collymore hates us so much. Man U at home 5 : 0 1999 - Even Sutton scored ! Although they were down to 10 men
November 9, 20169 yr There is so many games where we have played superbly in my team as a Chelsea fan like when we beat United 5-0 in 1999 or when we put 6 past Arsenal in 2014 as just two examples. But I honestly don't think the football in those games was as good as the Everton one. It was pure style, the tricks, the link up play etc. I'm not saying it's better than any of those wins but I think in terms of pure style and sexiness it's the best I can remember.
November 9, 20169 yr I don't think I have ever seen us play to that level, utterly dominant in every area of the pitch! We had some great wins like the 4-2 win against Barcelona 6-0 against Arsenal, 5-0 and 4-0 against Man United, 4-1 win at Anfield where Drogba terrorised them and 4-1 against West Ham after being 1-0 down with 10 men, but that Everton game we was on another level, and the scary thing is that may not have been a one off and we may play even better! November 9, 20169 yr In my 35 years supporting us, I have never seen us play at that level before, not for 90 minutes anyway.

Wigan actually were the better side in that 8-0 until the sending off, and we were struggling to cope with the three at the back system by the Lactics funnily enough. The red card came at the perfect time as else we were in for a long and tense afternoon. Quote It seems odd to trace Roberto Martinez’s successful experiment with a three-man defence back to an eight-goal defeat, but that’s where we’re going to start. On the final day of the 2009/10 season, Wigan travelled to Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea needed a win to make sure of the Premier League title. Chelsea won 8-0. But that didn’t quite tell the story of the match. For the first half hour, Wigan actually dominated. They played an unusual 3-3-1-3ish formation, with Martinez taking the opportunity to experiment at a stage when Wigan had nothing to play for. They conceded an early goal, a slightly fortunate Nicolas Anelka strike following a set-piece – but from then on they were the better side for a good 20-minute spell. Chelsea, who were relentless and powerful at that point – but actually lacking in shape and discipline – found it very difficult to cope with the fact Wigan were playing three players in very wide positions with the ball, and by stretching the play as wide as possible, Wigan dominated possession. What went wrong? Well, Wigan went down to ten men. Gary Caldwell was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, and Wigan could no longer play with their brave starting formation. The entire point of them playing that match was no longer there, and they ended up losing the second half 6-0 with a ramshackle formation and a half-hearted attitude. An interesting feature of Martinez’s post-match press conferences is his insistence on looking at a short, 10-15 minute spell when Wigan were the better side – even if it was at the end of a heavy defeat – and taking positives from it. That probably won’t be possible if Martinez moves to a bigger club, as the latest sports betting odds indicate is quite likely. At one stage this season, his confidence that these spells could be replicated over the course of 90 minutes bordered on the insane, considering his side was playing terribly for the majority of games. But this tendency to look beyond the result and see patterns of play in a set period of time is very interesting, especially when looking back at this fine first half performance (with eleven players) in an eight-goal thrashing. http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/05/16/wigan-stay-up-after-a-switch-to-3-4-3/
November 9, 20169 yr We were amazing mostly in Ancelotti'a first season but as I said before I think the Everton win was the most stylish. It was mesmeric.

We were great in the beginning and the end, the middle (between the two trips to Ewood Park) there was actually a fair few worrying signs we were in decline. Even when we were blasting teams we had that game vs Spurs tucked in there were we were lucky not to be on the receiving end of what we were dishing out.

We actually had a couple of tough spots, but none were particularly lengthy. For the majority of that season we were really good. We lost a fair amount of games but we didn't really suffer many back to back defeats from memory.
November 9, 20169 yr Ancelotti's Chelsea was absolutely brilliant from September to November, and From March (After the horrific Spurs game) all the way in winning the title.
November 10, 20169 yr Any time we beat man Utd as my brothers support them. I loved the 4-0 against them a few weeks ago But in all honesty I'd say the Everton performance amazing performance and like others have said I can see their being more performances like that in weeks to come.
November 11, 20169 yr The game we gubbed Liverpool in the FA Cup 3rd Round in Jan 1978. They were European Champions remember... Ach if not, just an excuse to post it !
November 11, 20169 yr I cannot remember a Chelsea performance so dominant like this one ! Yes 8-0 Wigan , 7-0 Stoke and 6-0 Arsenal games were excellent . But do realise that Everton this season has the 2nd best defence in the epl , and rattling their defence with 5 goals in a game is supercalifrikarious !!!! One shot off target for Everton in that game , one freaking shot , where Bolasie was easily tamed and they're in-form fiercesome , ex-chelsea striker , Lukaku simply went missing ! All credits to our mean defence and solid defensive midfielders , giving enough support for wingbacks and attackers to play freely ! I wish Tottenham and Man city get destroyed in the same way ..... :D
November 11, 20169 yr Individual performances? Since the 6-0 shellacking of Arsenal in early 2014. Best runs? From memory Ancelotti's side in mid-2010 was sweeping everyone in its path, though only Aston Villa was a particularly strong side back then. IMO Aston Villa back then were not much different from Southampton or Everton today and on paper obviously inferior to Man U. Ancelotti's 2009-10 side was at its best awesome but patchy and inconsistent. Against well-drilled, organised sides like Inter we had problems because tactically we were somewhat scattershot and we never really did nail down a formation that worked for long. In my opinion the 2014-15 side was better. Edited November 11, 20169 yr by DaRick
November 11, 20169 yr Regardless of which sesson we were better in, that Ancelotti title win will always be my favourite. I think it was cause it was a damn close title race and was just way more exciting than running away with it.
November 11, 20169 yr Barcelona 4-2 purely for the team and players it was against. No excuse that they played poorly, we were just on it that night.
November 11, 20169 yr There have been bigger nights but never (in my memory) a more complete performance. Absolute class from start to finish.
November 11, 20169 yr I have so many memories both good and bad, but for an around display the Everton performance had it all I can honestly say that I can't remember when I have seen a Chelsea team play with that much freedom and dominance what a joy to watch, this is my first post I'm not some jcl tourist first game was 1967 blue is the colour
