To be fair, I think its about time that top defenders get the same recognition as the top forwards, because they're both equally important imo.

But he doesn't need to gamble...he's got proven CL teams interested in him...and Eversh*te's new signing aren't nearly enough quality to propel them into the big boys club...

Seems like Southampton relented and have let him go after all. Probably had Liverpool agree to pay more upfront then they wanted to fix the tapping up issue. 

He is not going to stay at Southampton next season, the question is who is going to steal him, I think the race would be between us and Liverpool, but I've a feeling that he is almost in Liverpool.

I don't really think we need him, he has to play as starter but now with Rudiger, I can't see him finding himself with us.

I would have him with Rudiger and Luiz, Dave the right back as a right back for the first time in his chelsea career and whoever we can get on the left, in an ideal scenario, one we can afford since we have made money this window not spent it would be

Hard to believe we would drop 50m when we already have good depth at cb. I would guess that if it went through then Rudiger or azpi would be used predominantly at rwb. Also wouldn't look good for Christensen. Personally I think cahill is the weakest link at the back, but can't see our new captain getting dropped. 

Agree with all the sentiments expressed about the number of CBs we would have on the books.

It would also seem to me to be a position where we have good youth products like JCS and Tomori. 

My question is whether this would see Luiz move more into midfield given our lack of depth in that area.

This would certainly see the end of one of Andreas or Zouma. Probably Zouma who perhaps doesn't possess the passing ability under pressure needed in a Conte back three.

No way would this move Luiz to midfield. He's been immense last season and I can't see why we would move him out of position now?

If Conte wants him and there is an opening to sign him then this should be a no-brainer. He's class and although we are well stocked as far as CBs goes two of them have passed thirty and Van Dijk is probably the best defender that might be available at this time.

Yes we have a number of CBs already but none that's naturally left footed and could easily slot into the left side of a back 3...Cahill has done well but it's clear that he's uncomfortable when drawn out wide and often looses possession when put under pressure there...so I can see VVD slotting in there perfectly with Rudiger as his back up...

Just saw the The Times is also writing we are confident of a deal being struck this week.

yeah we aren't actually strengthening a priority position. unless conte plans to play azpi or rudiger at rwb, it doesn't make sense to spend big on another cb.

If VVD signs then Christiensen is leaving.
