Tiémoué Bakayoko

This. Some of the positions he got into, would have made lamps proud.

Shots and the final does need work.

Yup, also good to remember lampard didn't score that many goals in his first season, was an area he was criticised for when he joined.

To me he appears like a immensely talented player who needs to refine his game a little further, I can see him having a breakout season next year or the year after, it just depends on whether we have the patience to stick with him whilst he is developing and is going through inconsistent phases.

Thought he played pretty well, with kante taking working loads off him he's taking up a more attacking role without worrying chase back everytime they have the ball. It would be a middle finger to the critic had he scored that goal after robbing Fellani, he will get better, while Matic won't get his mobility back. In 12-18 months time, we will look back and say what a brillant piece of business to trade Matic off for Bakayoko.

Clearly he's not a holding midfielder, and there for we saw him struggle when he played with Fabrergas.. yesterday box to box he looked excellent with a slight astrix over his finishing and final ball, he's still young though so practice will put those areas right.

Against mancu was 1st time he looked the player he was last season - powerful runs into the box, strong on the ball and real box2box style of play

he doesn't yet have the class in his passing or finishing but with some composure in the box he looks like a toure in the making

I especially liked the way he was so disappointed with his miss in the 2nd half - showed commitment and right attitude

Could be his breakthrough season

He played a massive part in the goal with out touching the ball. Watch his run take away the defender, morata might have been fine awy way but Baka made sure there was no one near him. Not all about what you do with the ball

No idea what he's getting at there, Willian & Pedro? Is he aware Baka plays in midfield...

The only part I agree with is that we need to see more from Baka, I actually thought he was sloppy last game, unpopular opinion. He does have energy and he's good at running towards players but he reminds me a bit of Ramires in that regard, sloppy end product. His carefree tackling is going to land us in trouble eventually also, he keeps running around fouling players after he's already on a yellow.

I would prefer Drinkwater to play in CM, but that's my opinion I'm sure many would disagree.

Pleased with his performance against United, much improvement on the previous few games. Still very young and he will have time to improve more and adapt, with Kante by his side we could be sorted in the midfield for "years" to come.

Not impressed with him at all. I know he's young and will hopefully improve, but he doesn't really seem to excel at anything. He can't shoot for sh*t, gives away fouls more than he wins tackles, his passing is absolutely atriocious for this level, all he really does is drive forward with the ball sometimes. Thought he should have come off first, not Drinkwater.

Like i said in the match day thread, he looks like a player that is still learning the game. Last season was his breakthrough season, but there are still a lot of things in his game that needs to be worked on. In time, i think he will get it right, but right now, i think we will see up and down performances.

Can he really just become more intelligent overnight though? His playing style seems to be set in stone, he's very athletic but his discipline is awful. He doesn't know how to react to the tempo of the game, look how reckless he is when it isn't necessary. I like his bursting runs in midfield, makes him less one dimensional because at Monaco he was known to be a solid defensive player. But even then he's very sloppy, many people praised him against United but I thought he was very sloppy, seemed to get himself in the right position then trap the ball between his feet, zero technique, didn't know what to do with it.

If we're planning to make him a top class defensive midfielder, then it will have to take a lot of time. When the club decided to buy him, then I'm sure that they knew he was still young and put only one promising season with Monaco. He has the talent, he has a lot of work to do and he needs that confidence and experience. If we're planning to work on this prospect, then the most important thing is TIME. He is going to make a lot of more mistakes because this is the way, believe me, that next game he will sure kick the ball as far as he can and won't try to stop it like he tried against Liverpool. Players are learning from their mistakes!

Yes, since he arrived we don't really feel like we have got a proper replacement for Matic, but we should be patient because playing at his position, in Premier League is not an easy job to complete. He had a poor game against Liverpool, his mistake led to Salah's goal, but I'd accept that because after this game he will become better.

Matic didn't need replacing, he was a completely average player and a passenger who never returned to his old form. He's only spoken about in high regard because he's heavily protected and praised by fools like Phil Neville. I don't think I've seen a more basic player praised for the most simple things. Fabregas is not a CM, the only choice was to play Matic.

You could be describing Ramires

I literally just said that in the match thread that he reminds me of Ramires lmao

He has those bits of flair where he's quick on his feet and creates a moment of brilliance, then his final ball is 4/5 bad.
