Chelsea Vs Watford (PL) Mon 15/05 2017 KO 20:00 GMT

Featured Replies

Personally thought zouma and Terry very average, Kenedy didn't do a lot wrong but neither did he shine.

Chalobah is nowhere near matic right now in my opinion, I see others differ.

Batman I see as doing ok in the holdup role but probably not strong enough to do the sole striker job.

Ake could start in place of either cahill or Luiz.

We showboated tonight and if we had been more solid at back could have killed them.

Willian was very impressive, reminds me of what a top player he is.

Possibly the chubbiest opponents to visit The Bridge this season Watford looked better suited to the Herts Sunday Prem under the pseudonym Whatferd Sunday FC. One can see why they were relegation candidates up until this weekend and when no. 33 came on I thought we were changing sports from Soccer to American football, he should really be a Linebacker for the Raiders. All that said they took their opportunities well and gave our second stringers something to think about.

Thought Chalobah played well, his range of passing was very good, he dropped off a bit after his booking and was blowing a bit late on.

Ake, Zouma and Kennedy remain, for whatever reasons, unconvincing and I can see any two from three being moved on close season.

All in all a good evenings entertainment and am looking forward to Sunday's presentation and then the Cup Final followed by the Parade.

Have a great Summer Shedenders KTBFFH

I missed this game but from what I saw it seemed like good entertainment combined with some poor defending from both sides. You could tell that JT and Zouma haven't played regularly for quite a while.

I was half expecting Conte to roll out the reserves for this game because he has done it before (LC vs West Ham).

I don't really see this game as being evidence of anything besides the fact that Batshuayi is a good poacher. Also nice drives from Azpi and Cesc.

Christensen certainly should be up there, he's been collosal for Gladbach.

He's a better player than VVD who everyone is climbing over themselves for us to sign.

Can't agree mate VVD is head and shoulders above Christensen, I think we get caught up on the romance of our youth players he hasn't had that great a season at all, been decent nothing special. I try and watch the gladbach games for him and hazard, VVD has it all and is built for this system he would improve us greatly been the first name on my list for a long time, a top ball playing CB with height, power, good game reading, composure and decent pace, he ticks all the boxes for us, Christensen couldn't put garry out the team and garry isn't quite good enough, that's the reality "promising" sure but like we saw today, ake is "promising" and struggled against Watford, would you start him against city? Or in Europe against Barca? They aren't at that level VVD is, that's the bottom line that Conte will look at.

In all respects, the game was played like an exhibition match. Yeah, Zouma and Terry were a little stiff. The game was quite free flowing until the end when Watford showed a bit of ugliness.

Nevertheless, a good win to cap off a great season.

What an altogether perplexing game haha

Glad for the win of course, and it was entertaining to watch (it certainly helped that the result didn't matter....I might have been tearing my hair out otherwise)

The defence played as though they'd never played together before....funny that, isn't it haha

Hello Chelsea mates! Was not able to watch live unfortunately, but have watched it all.

Sure the game lacked intensity at times, until the last 20 minutes when we made a push to win. You could see it mattered and Conte confirmed post match our target now is the record 30 wins in one PL season.

Great to see so many new faces in the XI. Worked in the end with all three points. You could see we were struggling at the back plus Begovic. Looked kind of like last year at times.

Really happy for all the scorers tonight. JT for obvious reasons, Azpilicueta for his unsung play all year, Batshuayi finally getting in there and Cesc for all his assists and great attitude when not playing early in the year.

The Bridge was vibrant from the beginning. Grest to hear and see.

Let's get number 30 Sunday and celebrate like never before. Oh, and let's smash Arsenal the following Saturday

Come on you Chelsea!! :bluescalf::bluescalf:

Edit - Batsuayi getting in there meaning starting XI. He certainly got in there vs West Brom :good2:

Ake was ok and could be used in the coming season to play instead of Cahill (or as an alternative for that position). What this game clearly showed was that IMO we need two decent strikers for next season (replacement for Costa and good enough substitute for him). Bats wasn't good enough (of course he is lacking time on the pitch this season but even so).

I agree with everytrhing u said about WD. I think Ake has proven himself in the premiership while christensen is yet to. i wouldnt really fault Ake in yesterdays game because Zouma and Terry were trash and we can expect Ake to cover for them both, Like the Fa cup game against spurs showed put him around good defenders and he will shine.

Thought JT and Zouma didn't have particularly good games last night as often awareness and positioning let them down. Now maybe its just rust as you can be as fit as you want and train all day but without match time, always going to struggle. Therefore, I reckon Terry might retire and could see Zouma on loan to a Prem team to get full experience back and play week in week out.

Kenedy had a decent game, played alright going forward and was committed to the tackle but his spatial awareness and defensive placing was off and sucked in field too much.. reckon he needs to play in his natural position, go on loan to somewhere he will start or be sold as not a wing back.

Ake and Chalobah had strong games I thought and have to build on those performances ... Chalobah was better once he had a little more freedom

A game that meant very little to both sides now that the main business is done. I enjoyed it even if we were a bit ropey defensively.

Nice to see other guys get a game, we do need to invest in a few top players to bolster this team though, that much is clear.

Unpopular opinion of the week, I think for footballing reasons last night was very evident as to why JT can't cut it with us anymore. Arguably at fault for two of the goals, definitely the first. The JT of old would have claimed that header and Chalobah most likely sh*t himself to get out of the way, but he seems to have lost the command he once had, probably due to the fact he has had so little game time this season. From an entirely selfish perspective it would be a big shame to go and see him play for a Bournemouth, West Brom etc. as I really feel he will struggle and it will be a sour note to end what has been a remarkable career. He obviously has the credentials to be a top class coach/manager, why not quit at the top and learn your trade as a coach? Then again, his decision and rightfully so not mine!

Aside from that rant which was painful to make I must say, I thought last night was a strange game. After only one training session on Sunday and 9 changes I wasn't expecting a 4-0 win, however the defence looked very shaky. I thought Ake played alright, but Zouma and Terry were very poor. Azpi was solid as always and nice to see him on the scoresheet. Kenedy I thought surprisingly did well, didn't do much wrong defensively, however I must say he's probably the most one footed Premier League player I've ever seen, good job his left is half decent!

In the midfield I thought echoing Ake, Chalobah was okay. He can certainly pick a pass when time is on his side, but his decision making isn't on Matic's level. However I'm sure he will be in and around the squad next season and will get some more games. Kante class as always, likewise with Willian. Hazard quiet for the second game in a row, fingers crossed he's saving himself to tear Arsenal to shreds at Wembley (again). And Bats got his goal and showed a few good promising signs again, let's hope he can carry that through to next season.

Anyway, nice to get the win, hopefully another on Sunday and a 93 point season... imagine if we were told a year ago that'd be our points total, I'd have laughed my head off!

Terry wud actually flourish in wba or anyteam playing a low block he just cant play in a highline due to his lack of pace.

If anyone seriously thinks Cahill will be out of the side next season for anyone (youth or new player) then they're deluded.

Strange game. Didn't really matter if we won or not, but still nice to get the 3 points and head for the record.

Defence looked very shaky, which is to be expected as I doubt that 3 haev ever played together before and there were a lot of other changes as well, so rating the players might be harsh, but I shall do it anyway!

Begovic - 5/10 - He never seems to really...save anything

Ake - 7/10 - Solid for most of the game, but was beaten far too easily for their 2nd goal.
Terry - 5/10 - I'd like to give him a higher rating as its harsh to judge him, but defensively he was poor, gifted them the first goal and him and Zouma(?) got in a right mess for the 3rd. Got his goal though, which was good.
Zouma - 5/10 - I just don't rate this guy, I don't think he's good enough.

Kenedy - 5/10 - Expected a big performance from him to show what he can do, bombing down the wing getting crosses and shots in. In reality he was bang average. Baba would probably be a better 2nd choice for that position next season.
Chalobah - 7/10 - Calm and assured on the ball, good range of passing in the air and on the ground. Only negatives really were his positioning could do with some work and he needs to not be so petulant when booked.
Kante - 7.5/10 - Broke up a lot of moves as usual. Standard quality performance from him.
Azpilicueta - 7.5/10 - Good goal. Didn't see as much of him getting crosses in as I'd hope.

Willian - 8.5/10 - Played really well, deserved a goal himself.
Batshyaui - 8/10 - Some great touches and link-up play (much better than Costa's). Took his goal when it fell to him. Gives away a lot of freekicks though, which he needs work on.
Hazard - 7/10 - Flashes, but didn't really end up doing all that much.

Subs:

Fabregas - 7/10 - Lampard-esque goal from the edge of the box and good control of the midfield when he came on
Aina - 6/10 - Didn't really do anything
Pedro - 6/10 - Again, didn't do much, apart from wind the opposition up

Nice to get a win even though the title is already won.

I don't think we learned much from the game. Personally I don't think any of the youngsters impressed and they seem a long way off of challenging for regular football.

Michy looked quite lively and showed some nice touches but anywhere in and around the box he gets tunnel vision and doesn't bring others into the game when he has the chance to.

I can see Zouma heading out on loan next season, I think he'll benefit from regular playing time to get him back up to the levels before his injury.

Dave was great, shows he can play wing back if needed. Willian had a really good game, looked aggressive in possession. Fabregas just oozes class and looks a class above everyone with his passing and movement in midfield.

JT, nice to see him score for sentiment but overall showed that he's not suited to playing in the back three. I'm glad he'll be leaving on a high.

Remember youngsters should really be given a chance in the first team surrounded by established players so they work their way in. Throwing half a dozen youngsters into the spine of the team is never going to give a fair reflection.

I agree, and i can't believe some players have already been written off by our fans after last nights performance.

I agree, I do not see Conte dropping him nor do I think he should. Cahill has been brilliant this season.

I thought Ake was very good to be honest, he covered quite a bit for JT and Zouma who both looked ropey. He didn't cover himself in glory for Janmaat's goal, but that was about the only mistake he made all game. He's stellar on the ball, the touch to control the ball and the vision to lay it off for Bats was that of a much more experienced player than he is. I think he's ready to challenge for a starting position, I'd also like to see him played alongside Kante in midfield, just as an experiment. He's the real deal in my mind
