July 29, 20187 yr Cant win trophies without a top man in goal , Tibo is the only 1 of squads keepers that fits that bill. Big Willy & Baka on together & the team will likely drop points.

Could be Eduardo, remember him? We still hold his registration after bizarrely giving him a one year deal and then sending him on loan. Could be Green although I doubt that one. Could be Blackman with him being the number two and Willy dropping down the pecking order. Could be a keeper stepping up from the academy .
May 22, 20197 yr Good news this, I quite like Willy he's a very professional guy, handled himself brilliantly with Kepa
February 2, 20206 yr To be honest, apart from the single monumental f**kup in which he single-handedly cost us a goal, I thought he was excellent. He claimed crosses, yelled at defenders prior to set pieces (probably not loud enough at Christensen), passed the ball sensibly, saved a few decent shots... As it stands, how on earth is he the best we have?

As it stands, how on earth is he the best we have? Agreed. He made two saves that Kepa has been letting in and shock horror actually came off his line and caught two crosses! Starts next game for me. Again if we had doubts about Kepa where were we in January? Plenty of keepers at small clubs doing very well who would have provided very good competition for Kepa.

February 22, 20206 yr Great to get the win though get the feeling every match there is a mistake in Willy. Last match racing out of his box for a ball he couldn't get and today that dodgy moment when he selected to catch rather than push away a high ball almost carrying it over the line.

It's the same with Kepa though, on set pieces and crosses Kepa is f**king DREADFUL, it feels like my heart is in my mouth whenever the opposition whips a ball in with Kepa there.
February 22, 20206 yr I have huge respect for Willy and the way he's conducted himself here but a new keeper/miracle Kepa resurgence can't come quick enough. If we had a more experienced team I'd say take a punt with Jamie Cumming and see if it worked De Gea (at Atleti) style but it's not a good idea with so many young players in already. February 23, 20206 yr He played well today. Keeps his spot for Bayern in my view. Edited February 23, 20206 yr by Spiller86
February 23, 20206 yr Love Willy. His attitude was amazing during the fiasco at cup final with Kepa. Just that moment has won me over and I hope he keeps his spot rest of the season. That one save he made yesterday, honestly wouldn’t surprise me if Kepa didn’t save that with his weak wrists.
May 19, 20206 yr Correct decision given this season is (likely) going on past June. Hopefully we let him go before the start of the next season though.

It says we triggered an option for next season though, and if Kepa continues to be ropey we are screwed. The uncertainty around clubs finance would have made it perfect to get in a solid backup, someone like Ramsdale at Bournemouth would have been ideal if they went down. Looking further in Europe we could have picked up a solid GK on a cheap to challenge Kepa.

There's a chance we still may sign a keeper either way as I imagine Jamie Cumming will head out on loan (hopefully so as I genuinely believe he is capable of an impact similar to what we've seen from Dean Henderson). That way he will be our new Rob Green, so to speak.

May 20, 20206 yr Who wouldn't like a Willy extension... the puns write themselves. Not an issue to have another old head around the club, particularly with so many younger players. It does rule out proper competition for Kepa. Hopefully Marina can pull off a miracle and move Kepa on loan and we can get a decent first keeper. I won't hold my breath though. Would be a hard deal to pull off.
