April 23, 20188 yr I think Reina contract at Napoli expires end of season, we could get him as a backup GK.

Point is - They might not extend his contract so he will be a free agent, at his age he cant complain about not being No1, we offer good wages for backup GK hence we got Begovic.

Fair enough, but given his performances, I dont think reina himself would like the 2nd GK role.
May 9, 20188 yr Tom Heaton can't get into the Burnley team and is measurably better than any of our back up keepers
May 15, 20188 yr Swansea will let Fabianski go apparently. He's been their best player and they can't deny him a move to a Premiership club, now that they've been relegated. Apparently there's no end of mid-table suitors but maybe we should be making him an offer he can't refuse to be our number 2. He's obviously not good enough to be our number 1 but he's a hell of a lot better than Caballero. I said earlier in this thread that number 2 was a crucial position in the squad and Caballero wasn't good enough to fill it. We saw how crucial it is on Wednesday night, with his howler against Huddersfield. I'm sorry but I regard him as a clown. He shouldn't be anywhere near our number 2 jersey.

May 15, 20188 yr Personally think we also need a no 1. this next season, as whispers are Courtois will leave on free at the end of his contract. Prefer him to sign a new contract but I don't think he is going to, and if so we should get some money for him in the summer.

All 3 of our current keepers occupy non home grown berths in the PL and indeed the EL squads. The number of non HG is limited to 17 in number. We saw at home to Huddersfield that Willy is no more than average and as for Eduardo I have absolutely no idea . Jamal Blackman has now had two very good periods out on loan firstly at Wycombe and latterly at Sheffield Utd. Jamal qualifies both as HG and indeed club trained. For me it is time for him now to step up as number two and be tested in EL and domestic cup competitions it may well be he is first team ready and nex5 season may well be the season where a proper assessment of his readiness is made. As for number three I personally would go with either Cumming or Bulka. Both are under 21 and whilst Bulka would have to be given a non HG berth in the EL( they have a slightly different rule in UEFA competitions ) we could in effect have a far better spread of keepers than we currently have with the added benefit of having freed up non hg berths. Oh as for first choice if TC won’t sign a new contract he will need to be moved on ASAP and a replacement bought in. Edited May 16, 20188 yr by terraloon

Drogba wouldn’t be allowed back to Cobham though, Fabianski would have flashbacks and piss him self (like he did when he faced Drogba on the pitch).
June 22, 20187 yr Can't say I'm overly surprised at his gaff for Argentina last night. His kicking and distribution is pretty bad and he had a few moments during the season where his kicking got us into trouble. Alright as a shot stopper but certainly not someone you'd want playing too much.
June 22, 20187 yr Too many mistakes in him. Doesn't inspire confidence. It's an error in judgement by the club to keep bringing poor quality keepers for the No. 2 spot.
June 22, 20187 yr Needs to learn to punt it upfield than play it out from the back because he's not good enough for that. Decent penalty stopper though.
June 23, 20187 yr Im baffled that Argentina dont have a better goalkeeper than him? Im also baffled how he doesn't start Dybala from the start.
June 23, 20187 yr That goal he conceded to Modric was too similar to the one he conceded to Ericksoon. They all looked good to be contenders of goal of the year, but in truth just not following the trajectory of the ball and poor hand eye coordination, most first choice GKs would have made the save. Any time he starts, it's anybody' game, really. He's exactly why Argentina is a poor team despite having the second best player in the world, and a couple of awesome strikers. I don't think it's anywhere near as bad. He should have done better with Modric's shot but the Eriksen goal was ametuer hour, even one of the celebrity keepers from soccer aid wouldn't let that in.
June 25, 20187 yr Felt bad for Willy, far too casual. Second choice keepers are usually a liability, because they are happy to sit on the bench. Good keepers command places and are a bit more ambitious
July 29, 20187 yr I know it's only pre season, but he really irritated me yesterday. We had a calm and composed 18 year old goalkeeper in goal for the first half, he dealt with everything, Caballero, 18 years older and with much more experience, comes on and sh*ts himself almost immediately. He's making more mistakes than usual now, there are at least 1 or 2 major ones a game. I watch him and think "yeah, that's an easy catch for a keeper from a corner".......nope, he's panicked and made a meal of a punch. Then I see a shot come in and think "Keeper's got this".......nope, Caballero has managed to miss judge the movement and it's a goal. A defender will pass the ball back to him, and you can see panic overwhelm him straight away, so he boots it anywhere. I have never seen a keeper with so little composure. I would have Green ahead of Caballero, I would probably have Bulka ahead of him too, the only thing Caballero is good at is penalties. The odd good save here and there doesn't make up for the really poor mistakes he makes in every game. He had a good game here and there for us last season, but the more he was used the worse he got, and at the World Cup when he had to be number 1 goalkeeper, he was making more errors. He just looks like he could concede a goal from any situation.
