It's called, organisation, shape and defending and a game plan. And if this was a seria A game in the mid 90's there would be absolutely no discussion as to who the better team was Having now see Chelsea under conte for the last year, it's clear to see that he isn't 100% brought in to this pure high press thing. Our team seems to go through periods of the game where they will use it and others where they will get in to shape, conserve some energy and make it hard to pull them out. To put this in to context, Ali, one of the best goalscorers from midfield and a player who seems to have similar movement and goal scoring instincts to frank had one touch in the box! on touch. Is it lucky that we prevented one of their biggest threats having any of the ball were he can hurt us. As the game went on you saw him more and more turn up on the left wing, exactly where you would want to have such a player show up. How many balls did Ericsson manage to whip in from open play? like he had in previous games that hurt us. He was was smothered out of it. And as the game wore on spurs got more and more fatigued, before the goal came you could see they didn't have the legs under them as much and even after going 1-1 the game was swinging towards us. Was it the perfect game, no, could we have kept the ball better for periods, absolutely... but it was not a lucky result, it was reward for executing a game plan that was effective and nullified spurs biggest assets Agree with every point! We had a game plan to prevent us losing to Spuds in the same fashion we did at WHL last season. Conte pinpointed their threats and nullified them (You can't stop every threat hence why they got through on the odd occasion). Our whole tactical ethos is based on counter attacking. If this means on the odd occasion against certain teams that counter attacking mentality is a little more defensive or not as regular as it would be against lesser teams then so be it. We're not going to go out and dominate every team, that has to be accepted. However calling us "lucky" for soaking up pressure and scoring late is ludicrous! (I'm not saying you did Barak81, I'm pointing to other posts that have suggested we were). And even if it were "lucky", then surely every win requires a certain element of luck? i.e opposition players not taking their chances, Refs be slightly more lenient etc. So on occasion being lucky in a game certainly shouldn't be frowned upon!
August 23, 20178 yr I hope Luiz gets credit for his part in the winning goal. That was just superb - fighting to the last minute.

August 23, 20178 yr All this talk of "luck" I find amusing as well. If you believe that having possesion (but rarely looking dangerous) means you deserve to win the game, then I suppose you could consider Spurs unlucky. I don't. All this "luck" & "on another day" talk works both ways, and on another day, we could have won 3-0 and Spurs could have finished the game with 9 men. Spurs fans could consider themselves lucky that we scored a goal for them, and that they don't have Dier & Vertonghen suspended for the next game.
August 23, 20178 yr People deserve to be called idiots when they say something like "as for Morata, a total joke and waste of money" To say something like that when a player has only played 2 games for the club is incredibly idiotic. He also ignores that fact that we were playing with a squad depleted in numbers and that Morata was basically on his own vs 6 Tottenham players. It's totally unrealistic to expect a new striker to be dominant when you actually look at the situation we were in. He also described our performance as "totally embarrassing" when there was nothing embarrassing about it. If anybody had watched us over the years, they would know that we love a win like that, it's something we have become masters at. One of my favourite moments in football came from playing that way ( 2-0 away to Liverpool in 2014 ) If we was to lose the ability to win this way, then i think we would become a weaker side. I bet Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, City and United fans would secretly love to be able to get a few wins playing this way. Agreed. I understand some negative opinions can easily piss someone off at times. But I think their should be a fairer word than IDIOT being used against a fellow Chelsea fan you might be standing next to at the Bridge at any point of time in the near future.
August 23, 20178 yr Spurs need to bring in a decent wide player or get their fullbaks to do more because we just gave the rest of the league the gameplan to beat them. And if they do push their FB's on for more width then they expose the space behind them. I'd be worried if I was them because Pochetino didn't have an answer.

Luiz's tackle was absolutely vital as Spud's had 4 or so men over. This would have left us in some serious trouble defensively. To Luiz's credit he has been immense for us since coming back from PSG. Yes he has his moments (As can any defender) But overall he's stuck to the task that Conte has obviously given him, and hasn't gone on those "walk-a-bouts" that he was renowned for during his first stint with us. Really it goes to show how certain players can change depending on who's coaching them. Edited August 23, 20178 yr by Evoann62 Grammatical Error

The mods are here to "police" the site, and I do not believe it is your place to determine how everyone should conduct themselves. Football forums almost mirror the football stadiums for colourful language. If it offends people there is a choice.
August 23, 20178 yr I don't post on this part of the forum but I thought I'd have my say. Two things that I'm never going to forget about Sunday is Alonso's free kick and the Chelsea fans going absolutely mental after his second goal. When this game is talked about in a few years time will they mention that Chelsea inflicted Spurs first defeat at Wembley and show the goals or that Spurs had a lot of possession and corners and were unlucky (they weren't). The history books don't lie we beat them 2-1 luck pressure etc are irrelevant.
August 23, 20178 yr thought it's interesting. Willian highlight against spurs. make of it what you will
August 23, 20178 yr In that case, can I also have one of Morata's? Would love to see his misses, his dispossession, poor touches and lying on the ground. This twitter sh*t is the most biased and idiotic thing I have ever seen. I remember a similar video floating around about Lukaku's touches. How is that turning out for Us an united?

August 23, 20178 yr I think he's a very hard worker as probably most of us do. And i think it helps his performances seem better than they possibly are. However i think he's a very unintelligent player. He has the pace and skill to beat players and initiate so many counter attacks but he doesn't seem to be able to analyse the game and take advantage of his opponents weaknesses.
August 23, 20178 yr Slightly off topic, but after the game did the Police keep our fans in for several minutes until the queues to Wembley park eased?. Or just let us leave, and wander up to the station unaided?.
August 23, 20178 yr Slightly off topic, but after the game did the Police keep our fans in for several minutes until the queues to Wembley park eased?. Or just let us leave, and wander up to the station unaided?.There were some people letting the people go in a staggered fashion but it didn't seem like they were keeping the Chelsea fans away. I was actually in the away fans section so couldn't celebrate much but the people around me knew who I was supporting.

You probabaly need a hug or something. Willian ran his sucks off and i am sure the person whose opinion counts ( Antonio Conte) was happy with his performance. That wasnt a game for beauty queens it was a game for warriors and willian was a warrior for us just like the eleven other players.
