Race for Top 4

Featured Replies

So, 12 games left. 3 out of next 4 games are very tough (United, City and Burnley away). Personally I think depending on how we do in these games will determine if we finish in the top 4. We need a minimum of 9 out 12 points in these games which I can’t see us doing with the Barca games squeezed in the middle.

Burnely away is also after the 2nd leg of Barca so we could be on downer.

I think we will struggle to finish top 4. January killed our advantage and we blew some easy games.

1. City

2. United

3. Liverpool

4. Spurs

I want to be proved wrong though!

Sadly I'm afraid, that looks like the top 4, if any of the trans involved puts a run of half a dozen wins back to back then they will be shoe in, was it 13 we did last year? 6 or 7 wins back to back should be a piece of piss then!!!!

Even though they are 5th right now i can see Spurs having another strong finish and claiming second. I think we will put another consistent enough run together and claim 3rd. I actually feel United will drop out, as usual a Mou team are slowing down after 18 months and on this occasion the players don't have the motivation of the title within reach to dig into the energy reserves.

I live close to where Tottenham play their U23 games. Lallana got sent off the other week playing against them. The have a club shop in the middle of our town centre.

If Tottenham qualified top 4 and we missed out I would book a flight out of the country next day.

Sadly, for many of our younger / foreign supporters, it is probably going to take Tottenham winning the EPL to make them realise that Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal, West Ham fans are actually quite reasonable people.

To be brutally honest, i think we may have blown it. January and early February was a disaster. It was supposed to be our easiest period and Tottenham's toughest, but it didn't play out that way. I'm honestly expecting to be behind Tottenham by the time we play them on April 1st.

I'm just hoping the unpredictability of the league saves us.

We can only get fourth if one or both of our strikers starts scoring regularly. Without that we are relying on goals from the rest of the team, but it won't be enough to keep up with Salah and Kane. Giroud could be the answer, Morata less so.

If you went back in time to July and told me that we may have to rely on Giroud to get top 4 this season, i would think you were messing with me

Absolutely. Great point. We need Morata to be scoring again.

We certainly have tough games ahead, however, we have three games against Spurs, United and Liverpool (which will be our 37th game in the league, if me memory serves me correctly) - our rivals for a spot (disregarding Arsenal). If we manage 2 wins and a draw, I think we have a pretty good chance to finish at least 4th... Furthermore, Conte, until now, got the better of Jose. So we might be a little more optimistic in this regard.

It's doing my head in, we got two strikers, one is all left foot, the other all right foot, both great in the air, but still, one footed. Is it too much to ask for a two footed poacher ? I'm sick of seeing them get into a good position, ball comes in perfect for them, but because it's not on their favourite foot, they end up twisting their body out of shape just to try and get it on their preferred foot. If only we had a free scoring two footed striker on our books, all would be well.

Yeah I agree, we're the least favourites to finish 4th as of now. Hazard needs to carry us till the end of the season. I see united imploding and they're playing bad football along with us. It's going to be either united or us missing out.

With Giroud joining we have a better chance of making the top four.

Our next sequence of matches is against strong teams which may suit us as we have been losing to the lower sides, Arsenal excepted.

Conte is as much an obstacle as a being a positive influence and his relationship with the team will be key. They wont need motivation against Utd or City  or Leicester in the FA cup yet come Palace in the league and after we will have a better idea.

Looking difficult now. Spurs have good fixtures as well as they only have us (a) and City (h) of the big teams. Rest of their fixtures look easy on paper against smaller teams.

January has killed us

We're the underdogs now. Liverpool score so many goals that they will just out-score enough teams between now and the end. Man utd will be there. And it's looking like Spurs have more bottle than Chelsea this year, when it comes to getting results.

Chelsea have to face City, Tottenham and Liverpool in our final 10 games.

Liverpool only face Chelsea and ManUtd.

Tottenham face City and Chelsea.

We have a tougher schedule from the looks of it. If you are not worried, then u should be.

Been worried all season. January is where it all went wrong though. It was supposed to be Tottenham's toughest period and our easiest, it ended up being the complete opposite. I'm struggling to see where the twist is going to come from. We were caught by Liverpool and then caught by Tottenham, we have zero momentum, those two are in very good form. Unless we get some twists, i'm expecting Liverpool to finish 2nd, Tottenham 3rd and United 4th.

We must be within touching distance of Tottenham when we face them, if we're not, then i don't think we will get top 4.

On current form hard to see us making top 4. Liverpool and Spuds have been the pick of our rivals on form. Before today I thought our best chance was to overtake United. But they have a healthy cushion after that win. Unless we suddenly find some amazing form I can't see us making top 4 now.

If we didn't drop stupid points in games like Watford and Bournmouth we would look a bit more comfortable right now, as we are though it's going to be tough but it's in our own hands. UTC.
