Alisson Becker

Featured Replies

He's ok. Better at shot stopping than Thibaut but his saves go back into play or into the danger area and is pretty decent on the ball. Haven't watched a lot of him so don't know how good he is in terms of catching aerial balls etc.

Only heard good things about him from the journalists on Totally Football Show & Football Weekly podcasts. He keeps Ederson out of the Brazil team as well so surely that says something. If we can sign him for the same money we sell Courtois for I think it'd be a good deal.

If Courtois leaves, then the goalkeeper we are looking for has to be good at collecting the ball from set pieces, that is where Courtois is at his best. Courtois is an up and down shot stopper, he doesn't make enough saves in my opinion so that is where we can improve. Is this Alisson good at any of those things? The video above shows nothing of his ability from set pieces and his best saves are ok, but like Zeta says, he looks like he pushes too many out into the danger area.

I just can't see it... Looks dodgy as hell. So many saves go right back to the attackers. SO he can dribble a bit with the ball, who cares?

Exactly. His "best" saves don't inspire confidence in me at all.

I agree. Anytime an opponent tries a cross, corners, a speculative lob into the area or a hoofball, most of the time I'd see and expect Courtois to claim it outright. Just need to see how this guy deals with that sort of threat.

If Sarri wants him, that's all that matters to me.

I suppose this is key to all dealings this summer.

Personally i prefer the dominance that courtois has in his box, and I think he more of a natural leader.

If Courtois wants out though, I guess there's is nothing we can do, other than bring in an adequate replacement and hope that our run of having quality goalkeepers continue.

f**k him get Schmeichel or Subasic cheaper and never lose on penalties again

we've got Willie for those, trouble is we'd never reach penalties with him in nets.

Tibo is an extraordinary keeper and as much as he was criticised this season,  we're unlikely to find a keeper at his level.

Alisson played well against us and has been good whenever I've seen him.

Pedulla is suggesting that Fali Ramadani (who is close with our old friend Pini Zahavi) is working the deals in Italy for us. I reckon this one could happen. It's very hard to not see your kids grow up so I hope for Tibo that we can make it work.

Nothing noteworthy about Alisson in today's match at all. A decent long pass once and that's it.

Was disappointed that Mexico didn’t test him more, was looking forward to seeing what he could do.

I'd go with Jack Butland, no where near Thibaut's level but at least we get a decent homegrown English man that would go straight into the starting 11

Seems like we will get this player for around £70m...Which would imply that Courtois is going.

I mean, he is the first choice of Brazil, can't be that bad.

Not worth £70m...take Butland at £30m...new 'keeper Nicholas Tie has just signed his first professional contract with us...looks a good prospect...

The market dictates the price. Agreed - he shouldn't be £70M - just as Butland shouldn't be anywhere near £30M. City 'only' paid around €40M for Ederson last summer - and to be fair he's the second choice behind Alisson for Brazil - but still. I'd say that they're pretty much at the same level - given what I've seen.

However I think we should give Alisson the benefit of a doubt. As Robert Negrisolo said:

"I don't think many people have realised who Alisson is. The guy is a phenomenon. He's the number one of number ones. He is the Messi of Goalkeepers."

Furthermore, if we're looking at the higest save percentage in the big five leagues last season, Alisson was in 4th highest with 79.7 % - only beaten be De Gea, Ter Stegen and Oblak.

Not saying he's definately worth the money - but there is a pretty clear cut reason that he's priced at the value he is. If we can get around £60M for Courtois, I'll take it any day of the week.

Plenty of rumour about this one, reports suggesting Courtois will be sold to Real Madrid and Alisson is already lined up to replace him.

Seems odd to invest so heavily on 'keeper in my opinion when we seem so reluctant to invest similar fees on outfield players.

I'd argue a quality keeper is more important than a midfielder.

That's a tough one. The right midfielder can control and run the game, while the right keeper kan save a game (or points, as a minimum).

2 seasons ago, Zappacosta had the 2nd highest crossing percentage in Serie A and I was fooled then. Still reserving my judgment on him.
