Alphonse Areola's contract expires next summer - if he wants out of PSG my money would be on him or Cillessen. We were apparently interested in Areola last summer.

I guess we will just have to keep our fingers crossed. 

If beating city to jorginho was a statement of intent, then losing out to Liverpool for Allison if Courtois leaves, is a real kick in teeth, and it isnt a good sign of our ambitions., in terms of convincing hazard to sign an extension. 

 

 

I think if we don’t get Alison, I can see the club signing a stop gap or risking it with Willy for a year. Doesn’t seem to be many options around that are available.

I think i would risk losing Courtois for nothing than go with Caballero for a full season.

Liverpool have denied it. The bookies are still not sure, their leaning towards Liverpool, but shortened the price for him joining Chelsea.

Exactly. Cabellero is a disaster - we might as well right the season off if he was our keeper.

There are plenty of keepers out there who would be a massive upgrade and wouldn't cost a small fortune.

What is his command of the box like? 

If we are basing it on youtube videos alone, then this guy looks better than Allison. In Allison's video, he makes shots look harder to save than they really should be. He drops a lot of shots and pushes them out into the danger area too. Kepa seems to be less showboaty and tends to push his saves into a safer area. Also, if he can't catch a shot, he absorbs enough of the impact so it doesn't end up bouncing back to the opposition.

I actually like the idea of a British keeper. Don't expect us to get Pickford now but I would still rather have Pope, Butland or Heaton than Cabellero.

I know a good keeper is essential for teams wanting to be the best, but f**k me, the world has gone mad when you are talking these sort of figures.

Always find it funny when people complain about the figures.  Firstly, it's not our money so who cares?  And secondly, if we're willing to pay it then we can clearly afford it.  It's not like we can splash the cash like we used to, we have to be more sensible with our money, so if we're spending this kind of money the powers that be have worked it all out.

Roma know they can take us to the cleaners though, really dont have much of a choice if we want a goalkeeper besides Caballero this year. Everyone knows we are desperate due to the Courtois situation and Roma has no incentive to sell so they quote us with a ridiculous figure. We have put us in this situation ourselves by planning extremely poorly

I always hate that argument - not our money so who cares?!!

We should ALL care the way football is heading with inflated transfer fees and wages for mediocre players as well as the top ones. It can't be sustainable in the long-term and it's ruining the game.

Many of clubs in the past have thought they could afford to compete and now look at them. Pompey, Leeds, Villa...................that's just a few and the list will grow and grow.

Whether we care or not there's literally nothing we can do about it.  It's the way football is these days and it's not going to change.  As annoying as it is (and I agree that it is ruining the game) we either pay the price for the top players or we start to slip down the table even further.

As I said, if we're prepared to pay the prices for the top players then we've been given the green light to do so from those in charge of the finances.

Club legend, but from the way Arsenal fans are talking they don’t think they’d get even £1m for him. Best to steer clear from this one 

We need a new keeper just as much as Liverpool and their permanently concussed muppet.

Cech as #2, moving Caballero to #3 would be a good move for me ... worth it just for training ground and dressing room presence alone.

The anpunt of money exchanged increases with the money earned. There was aleays going to be an increase in prizes of players when clubs started makkng more money. Its the basic concept of an inflated marked. If Im not mistaken, Stan Collymore is still the most expensive player in the premier league when factoring in club income
