Alisson Becker

Fee agreed with Liverpool according to every reliable Liverpool-journo. £66 million.

Shame, and i'm getting worried about who we are going to go for.

All the reports say that Liverpool haven't even spoken to  the player yet, just have possibly agreed a fee.  No  confirmation from the other end at all.

I know a good keeper is essential for teams wanting to be the best, but f**k me, the world has gone mad when you are talking these sort of figures.

Stupid money for Alisson. Especially when we could arguably purchase both Butland and Pope for much less. Butland as No.1 and Pope as back up.

That is excactly how we screwed up in the transfer market last year among others.

"Why buy top class player A when you can buy average player B for half the price"

See Drinkwater, Zappa etc.

Nothing wrong with the theory, just the people using it.

I think this would be a great move tbh, especially if we get Cech for cheap to play as back up/mentor to him.

Bakayoko and Barkley fit like a glove.

Although to be fair to Bakayoko, he fits the Mikel role well. 2 left shoes on for shooting!

I wouldn't call Butland average, and at around £30 million I wouldn't call Butland over 50% worse than Alisson at £70 million. Butland is attainable and unless I'm mistaken we are not in a position to expect top talent  to come to Chelsea as we have no CL.

What is Donnarumma's distribution like? Not seen much of him, but he looks massive.

I agree we have made that mistake in the past with outfield players. But this is totally different. Alisson is NOT massively better than the likes of Pope, Butland, Heaton etc. It wasn't that long ago that he couldn't dislodge the great Wojciech Szczesny from the No.1 spot at Roma!!

“From what I'm hearing, even if #cfc came in with a late bid now, it's too late. deal almost done with LFC”. Simon Phillips

Next?

It's easy to look like a good goalkeeper for a relegation side though.
Mignolet looked like one of the best keepers in the league at Sunderland, Ross Turnbull looked like a good keeper for Boro, Fabianski looked great for Swansea last season etc, etc.

For me it's way to risky. It's a whole different ballgame being the goalkeeper at a top club.

Jordan Pickford also looked good for Sunderland the year they got relegated, and this year in the WC, there were pundits and players alike suggesting he was one of the best keepers in the tournament.

It is also a risk if we buy Alisson, or anybody for that matter. I just don't see Chelsea spending £70 million on a goalkeeper, and personally it is madness

Exactly. For that sort of money you would expect a robot-like keeper who never makes a mistake. You imagine spending that absurd amount of money one one goalkeeper and then he drops a howler. Then makes another mistake which costs you a game. What do you do, shrug your shoulders and say oh well?

I don't mind settling for a plan B though, as long as plan B is a good player. Drinkwater and Zappacosta felt more like plan D.

Not great yet, but the lad is 19 and already a top class shotstopper and has good command of his box. Reminds me a lot of young Cech. We should use every penny of the Tibo money on him and we'd be set for 10 years at least
