Christian Pulisic - Official

Featured Replies

dafak, instead of driling and learning Sarri style of football and be ready for the next season, now he can easlly pick up some (terible) injury at Dortmund and voila

Interestingly, I found this article produced in February '18 which quotes the top under 20 European prospects according to the CIES Football Observatory, and Pusilic rates pretty highly.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43115781

Not suggesting that this means Pusilic will become the next Messi, Ronaldo, Hazard etc... but it does statistically back up what we know to be true, i.e. within his age range, he has been on the radar of top European clubs for quite some time.

Further, paying £58m to secure his signature ahead of the likes of Bayern, Spurs, Liverpool etc doesn't seem ludicrous to me. Not when you consider how inflated the market is now, and given this guy could be with us for another 10-12 years.

Really don't understand the pessimism, but hey, it is January Blues time.

One of the things I found enlightening... go read the first 2 pages of the Cesc Fabergas thread now that's it's popped back up...

You might notice a pattern :stirthepot:

I am still going to support the player despite what people may think of him. However, he turned 20 a few months ago. He's still young, still raw, but I really hope that this isn't at the expense of Hudson-Odoi or worse, Hazard. Marina isn't a football person, I think we all know that, but what she is, is a fantastic businesswoman. She is a great negotiator and I am positive she will have something up her sleeve for this deal and future deals this month. Maybe she/the board have looked at the books, realised they can afford to splurge a little and Pulisic is one of a few players incoming. Pulisic is a signing for next season though, not this season. Any money made this season will go towards that signing I am sure.

Very pleased at how quickly this was announced, especially when you think back on the manager and transfer process last summer.  Definitely gives us more time to work some more deals this month, and I would agree that more signings are on the way.

Don't know too much about him if I'm honest, Strange that we've loaned him back though with our current need for a winger especially with the injuries we've had in recent weeks, let's hope we get a striker in now.

Agree, I thought we were looking to strengthen straight away.

I agree. I'm surprised he was loaned back too. He has only started 5 league games for Dortmund this season and seems to have been ousted by Sancho. I can only assume Dortmund want to keep him in the squad in case they pick up some injuries in the title run-in.

Apparently we loaned him back because Dortmund didn't want to sell in January. They wanted to keep Pulisic as they have a league title they could win. I suppose they want all the help they could use. Funny that, they were quick to bench him though.

Well, there's no denying we overpaid, but I suppose we have to look at it like Kepa I suppose. The price is exorbitant (especially considering the contract life, and the baffling need to loan him back), but he's young, he's talented, and already has a wealth of experience behind him. Is he world class now, no, he's not. The price is mostly on potential. He will fill a need. If we were to lose Hazard, he's an option. If we keep Hazard, he's an option as opposed to Willian or Pedro. He's going to be a commercial juggernaut. And yes, he may have been usurped by the emergence of a freakish talent in Sancho, but he's not some pleb footballer not fit to play for us. He can still reach the very top. Let's not forget Frank Lampard only joined Chelsea at 23, and his record for West Ham wasn't spectacular. Who knows what's in store for Pulisic. No harm in being cautiously optimistic about what's to come.

I am on the fence on the move, I hope it turns out great of course. It makes me wonder what the plan is with CHO bc, if he was at Dortmund playing regularly, would we be after CHO or Pulisic? Bc my guess is we would be after CHO. Anyways, hopefully he keeps getting better and can make an impact quickly at Chelsea next season when he gets here.

I expect that, given the timing right at the beginning of the transfer window, and the common knowledge that we've been sniffing around him for ages, this deal was agreed on a while ago. Which means it has almost certainly nothing to with the current uncertainty over Hazard's and CHO's futures.

It probably also kept his price down a little as well. Get the deal done now, and they don't actually lose the player and we don't have to spend an additional 10-15m.

There's reports along these lines now. It seems this transfer was done weeks ago but Dortmund wanted it kept quiet until after the winter break in Germany.

Comments on reddit.....

Im sorry I have seen enough drivel today so I’m not going to entertain the yahoos who post on reddit.

I think it’s pretty reasonable to hold off on the theatrics and throwing the toys out the pram until he’s at least played a few games for us

and btw £58 million isn’t a huge fee anymore, we are in a transfer market where absolute dross go for over £30 million in England. You really need to evaluate the whole situation before throwing a hissy fit over us buying a talented young player

Comments from Reddit from dortmund fans? Not sure why your'e in any better position to assess what they're saying over your own opinion on a Chelsea forum.

It's like you've missed the point completely.

It's like you've missed the point totally.

Talented player is one thing -- 60m when he's not proven to be any better than plenty of other players who play in his position from a price is another. None of his record indicates that he can somehow improve our RW options

And Chelsea fans have every right to complain about an inefficiency which other Dortmund fans are also sharing.

I know it's semantics, but it's not that he was dropped so much as he wasn't reinstated as a starter after injury.

Again. That's not totally unexpected considering the flying start that Dortmund had this season.

Sancho may have overtaken him anyway, but Pulisic wasn't dropped, Dortmund just had excellent depth and a guy that wasn't going to lose his spot right now

Not sure but having the most hyped US player ever can't hurt the next deal.

I think some people forget we are a business with close to half a billion pound turnover. If a good commercial opportunity arises, whereby we obtain a player in a position we are in need. whilst making a good profit selling merchandise why would we turn it down? His marketability within the States coupled with Nike sponsoring our shirts has enormous potential. The fee is big but I really don't see us losing on this deal, he is a very good player whose value to the club could be huge over a number of years.

I am excited about this move

I believe Pulisic can get a lot of better under CFC than Dortmund who had four different managers since the fired of Klopp in 2015. Dortmund's last three managers are not on the same level as our previous managers

This has been on twitter for months now but seemed a bit like the usual bull. He's quite probably been frozen out a little as he had made his intention to move known.

Agreed, ideally that would be the case

Sorry, not sure why've quote me on this point. Your post doesn't really make a lot of sense -- maybe you can try again and explain why the user shouldn't listen to 'yahoos' on reddit who are dortmund fans, and disregard any complains. And further why it's 'throwing your toys out of the pram' rather than voicing concerns that have been echoed similarly.
