The conveyor belt of academy is 30-40m.

Chalobah, Gallagher, RLC could all go in that range to mid table premier league clubs. I can still see us getting 20m for Kepa or Mendy and getting them off the roster. 

Your ziyechs will need to go abroad and I think he'd probably accept the best he can get in the summer, Havertz could go for 60m to Bayern. 

I'm not saying all of these are being sold. Premier league clubs outside the top 7 will spend money on our duds. There's been some ridiculously expensive transfers for worse players in the last few years.

I reckon treading on a rake is a rite of passage for gardeners.

The thing that worries me about the youngsters signing is that we’ve overpaid for alot of them. Most are £20m-ish signings. We’re unlikely to make much of a profit on them if we sell them. It’s clear that not all will make it but the huge fees won’t help make profit.

Its no different from when we were signing high profile youngsters under Arnsen and Emenalo tbh. Only difference is inflation since those times. These transfers would have been 10ish million about a decade ago.

It's the length of the contracts.

When we see player x stating they listened to Chelsea and really liked the project.....please.

If they earn as "little" as £100,000 a week that's £5.2m a year. 7 year contract = £36.4m...guaranteed. That's the worst case and most of these are coming in on a lot more than 100k. Don't play me, fine. Send me out on loan, fine. Play me in PL2, fine. Sit me on the bench permanently,  fine. Sell me and anyone else has to match or better £36m........guaranteed. 

Most are coming in on double that.

I think that's the project that appeals.

I think most players also realise that clubs don't/can't hold them to ransom. If in 4 years Mudryk seriously wants to leave for Madrid, best we would do is negotiate an extra year of service. We've also seen massive contracts before with talented youngsters like Saul signing a 9-year deal at Atleti. But Chelsea does it and it's a problem.

20m is a bit of a stretch. We've bought quite a few 'bargains' already under 20m. I mean Chukwuemeka was a steal. The ones over 20m were all market value really. 60m for Fofana is no different than City spending 45m on Stones. The only player we've overpaid for in the Boehly era was Cucurella. 

It's also very worth remembering that accounting profit is key, not economic profit. A player is devalued every year until they are worth zero at the end of their contract. 50m on a 5 year contract so the player is worth 10m at the end of year 4. Sell him for 40m and the club makes a profit of 30m.

That's precisely why it's super risky but also why I can see it's a great project from the player's pov.

What's even funnier is the contracts we're giving out (7 and a half plus an option of 8th) is a mere one year above what United are reported to be offering to Garnacho.

Exactly!

It may be a FIFA guideline but each country can govern their own rules, there isn’t even this rule in England.

We’ve done similar with Kepa, Arsenal gave Fabregas a 8 year contract and I’m pretty sure there’s other examples.

It’s clear that some team (probably Arsenal considering they are upset over the Mudryk deal) have gone running to the media to set the wheels in motion to try and get a rule in place.

Todays news is tomorrow’s fish and chips paper as they say.

I say we offer Saka 20 year contract seeing that it’s up for renewal soon.

Then they’ll have something to cry about.

This is a fair point . Its a far better model than the Aubameyang one for me. Continually throw money at aging disinterested players that we end up getting caught with on money islands

And 1 more than Liverpool gave Gakpo....but literally no one was bothered by that at all....weirdly.

Trust the process. The new players are raising the bar and we have a proper off field recruitment structure. This is fun!

They are all young too 23 and under. Love to see it, it reminds me when we bought de bruyne, salah, hazard, Lukaku etc at a similar age.
