They and everyone else who wanted to buy the club had to commit to spending 1.75bn over 10 years. So that's simply something they have to do. It's also been financed by taking on heavy loans against the club so the owners aren't spending any of their own money on all this. Eghbali in particular have basically been quite open about money being the main thing for them as well.
July 5, 20233 yr The money forecasted for commercial/TV revenue in the next several years is only going to skyrocket.
July 5, 20233 yr Season 2 of Todd Bully & Clearlakes capital ahead- The comedic fall of the club under new ownership to continue after selling off any player they could to raise funds to offst the 600 million punds they squandered in season 1 on player recruitment, in doing so have flogged all of the players with any winning mentality thus echo'ingg season 1's novice mistake of replacing 95% of the club's staff Fanbase divided just like on this forum, those that believe the nonsense emanating from the CFC Boardroom and those that don't, where do you stand ? New manager the 4th in a year, experienced in EPL but never won a trophy in English football. Won stuff w PSG but that's not difficult. Lot of supporters expecting him to do a Spuds and in a season get us reset, don't hold your breath even with an elite coach you need some experienced players in the dressing room we have Silva now and a lot of inexperienced players. Bit like a newly promoted team that's just hired a new experienced coach. Desperately need to add some steel and experience to the midfield to replace Kante, if this does not happen see a potential big F off hole in the middle of the park for us and top 15again. Reduced TV revenue due to non participation in CL. Not a Top 4 finish. Not a trophy. Please remind me next May if this was all doom'n'gloom or I got it spot on. I'll always support Chelsea FC but never Bully & Clearlake.

The club was decimated by the sanctions, and the total restructuring necessary post sale clearly made its way onto the pitch. Never a dull moment supporting Chelsea. I’d actually say things are looking up - Kante aside (and removing nostalgic glasses) I’m not sure any of the ones we’ve sold were really good enough anyway. Solid players, but many are from the same group that lost four domestic cup finals in a row scoring one goal.

Other than City, PSG and other state-owned teams, most clubs seek to increase the value of their club through success. There's always going to be interests of various stakeholders in ownership, this isn't new in football or business. Clearlake aren't some evil overlords that inventing a new way of owning a club. Increasing the value of the team does not always align with winning stuff. It is actually about finishing in top 4( cl money) while spending as little as possible and signing potential player whose value can increase in the future.

This + squeezing the wage bill as much as they can.
July 6, 20233 yr What they have done well imho is completely doing the squad overhaul. As long as I've been on this forum we have always talked about 'needing a complete summer clearout'...first time ever this is actually happening. And the profile of the new incomings have basically been: 18-21 yrs Top of their age class Quick and tricky Hungry for goals We won't get instant success as it is impossible to compete in the Premier League with a squad that is just assembled and is in their early 20's but it is hopefully exciting to see this team gel and grow to something great.

The rationale behind the Clearlake takeover was that they could exploit untapped markets and benefit from new TV contracts. However we’ve seen previously that whenever there’s a cash injection, it’s swallowed up by inflated transfer fees, plus increased player wages. As Alan Sugar put it donkeys years ago when he was a Chairman “ The money doesn’t touch the sides” Few clubs seem to turn a profit: the financial model doesn’t seem to work. I cannot for the life of me see how Clearlake can recoup their expenditure. I’m only guessing that they plan to eventually sell on to a Jim Ratcliffe type multi billionaire looking for a vanity project, or petrol dollars Gulf State regime.

If half of the number of young players we've accumulated (I've lost count TBH) fulfil their promise in let's say 2-3 years' time, I'd be happy. We should be able to consistantly compete for silverware. Having said that, if we don't, so be it, it doesn't influence my support (cheering at Cobham now)!
July 6, 20233 yr Can't wait for the new season to start. Everything seems more fresh and exciting this season. All the deadwood are leaving (we've needed a big clear out for years) which helps with the finances as well, a top coach, great young players with some elite talent sprinkled in, a smaller tightknit squad, fresh new kits (the previous season's kit just gives me PTSD) and the league will probably be at the strongest we've ever seen it. Don't be surprised if we make top 4 easily and win a domestic cup. This team we're building is going places. Clearlake made big mistakes in their first year but have rectified some of these and have learnt from them. Very exciting times ahead.

July 6, 20233 yr Very rare to hear Cockney rhyming slang these days. My part of South London’s gone posh. It’s gone from my old mans a dustman, he wears a dustmans hat... to my old mans a lawyer, he wears a barristers wig...pack up your troubles in a Mulberry bag..

As a bloody foreigner it usually takes me some time to decipher rhyming Cockney, but it's entertaining nevertheless

Roman turned a profit because he (would have) made money from our sale. They are banking on spending £xBn and selling for £2xBn over a 10 year period.

I think we are going to be well off top 4. City, Arsenal, MU, Liverpool, Newcastle, Tottenham and maybe even Brighton have squads that are ahead of us in terms of experience and years playing together. I am also pretty sure we can't patch every hole in the squad this summer, namely keeper and striker.

Who remembers him always having the subs kit ready to go and giving them advice before they come on. When he was benched for Mendy never moaned, never go do interviews, never leak anything to the press about being unhappy, never unsettled the team just got on with it. We need characters like him in the team and he will be very important for the younger players in the next couple of seasons.
July 7, 20233 yr For me we still need someone to play along side Enzo can't see we have that person yet. In related news the Telegraph is saying Caicedo's asking price has gone up £100m. Also Onana has agreed terms with Utd re Fabrizio Romano.
