But I think increasingly, the money is important. Chelsea is worth 3 billion potentially, and this is becoming a bidding war with different players.” When people claim it's not about money, it's about money.
April 5, 20224 yr It has always been about money. Roman was the only owner among the big clubs that was passionate about the club.

Roman has made a fortune and he always lived towards succeeding in that. He bought a football club and he has poured money in it. People might think why. I think he has very much passion in it for sure but he also has business-side in mind. No businessman in the world doesn't think outside the business-realm. I don't believe that. Granted Roman is much more in it (the football-side) than most major club owners and many fans are probably jealous of that (never admitting to it naturally). That is a value we'd love to hold on to but it is about to change somewhat. Even that we don't know for sure.
April 5, 20224 yr Some news on the bid of Stephen Pagliuca: https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12582857/chelsea-sale-steve-pagliuca-approaches-former-disney-chief-bob-iger-to-back-bid Interesting part from this article says that, while the Ricketts have made their pledges to the club Public as well as the CST, the Bohley led bid and Sir Martins one had done likewise but only to the CST and Pagliuca one has not spoken to the trust yet.

April 5, 20224 yr Expect these to be the winners in the end. As a matter of fact I think it's pretty much decided already. Cautiously optimistic about it. They seem to have put together a team with a whole lot of financial power and then the sporting experience from the Ricketts side. Ken Griffin alone is worth about twice as much as Roman and he's seemingly got Dan Gilbert onboard as well who himself is also worth a lot more than Roman.
April 5, 20224 yr Yep sadly its looking highly likely its going to be Ricketts winning the bid despite fan pushback.

April 5, 20224 yr We have no idea of what any one of these consortiums have offered. Could well be Ricketts-bid is way above every other bid in every way. We have absolutely no idea. I am willing to wait and learn more before slating the Ricketts bid.

They need to know they can’t skimp on costs and ANY drop in standards will result in us dropping out of the elite very quickly.
April 6, 20224 yr Couple of pieces on the Ricketts-Griffin, or should that be Griffin-Ricketts bid. First about the Bridge from an interview with the project lead who redeveloped the Cubs stadium. https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/2022/4/5/23011866/project-lead-lays-out-ricketts-bid-high-level-chelsea-stadium-rebuild-plans Couple of points from this. They looked in to redevelopment of the Bridge when they looked to buy Chelsea from Roman 4 years ago, so their interest is longstanding like the Bohley bid. They also state moving away from the bridge would not be entertained and that the stadium has to be "for the fans. Second pieces is about how Ken Griffin will actually be the majority owner. https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/2022/4/5/23012184/ken-griffin-expected-to-become-the-major-shareholder-of-chelsea-if-ricketts-bid-succeeds-report Griffin may or may not have met Chelsea executives and personal yesterday, but Tom and Laura Ricketts did. Laura is the only openly guy owner in American sports apparently so driving how the "diversity" angle by having her front and center.
April 6, 20224 yr If a former Disney chief comes on board we probably get a lot of Mickey Mouse -club type of banter 😃

It looks like they are trying to put Laura front and centre as a PR move against the pushback. So that they can say to themselves "we don't support what our father said because Laura is a woman and part of the LGBTQ community". That's nice and all but that doesn't stop us from knowing how involved daddy ricketts will be involved in the operations of the club.

April 6, 20224 yr I'm tired of all the politics talk, but let's be honest here. Whether it's the Saudis, Russians or an anti-Jews person running our club. If these guys at the end of the day, pumps money to our football club and we see success, who cares. I'm not saying you shouldn't protest and have a go at the owners for their stance, but they know they can easily cover this up if they take Chelsea to the next level. That's all they have to do. That is what they SHOULD do. Because if they take us down the Glazers route, their political stances will just get amplified. As long these owners don't bring their political stuff in to Chelsea, I'm good. Edited April 6, 20224 yr by Mana
April 6, 20224 yr Boehly is flying to London on Thursday to meet with Chelsea executives. https://www.si.com/soccer/chelsea/news/todd-boehly-to-fly-to-london-to-hold-takeover-talks-with-chelsea-executives

I’d much prefer them over Ricketts. It doesn’t matter how much money the Ricketts have, I’ll be shocked they keep putting money into the team. Their record suggests they will bleed the club dry. Boehly at least has a proven record in turning team into champions.
