Possibly scar tissue then. It's a horrible thing, I had it when i did my collateral ligament. My treatment was basically a physio rubbing the scar tissue for 10 minutes at a time to break it down, the pain was ridiculous. I'm pretty sure there's a much less medieval treatment now ha ha...

I had a broken and splintered finger last year. After surgery the methods for breaking down scar tissue was...

The the physio rubbing and digging her fingers into the lump left after surgery!

And yes painful!

Hopefully that is all it is, but even with Nkunku last season, the sources to the club downplayed the severeness of the injuries then turned out it was worse than suspected both times.

They downplayed Jackson's "twisted" ankle too recently...

As hard as it is, and as fond as we are of some of these lads, the only way that this club can move forwards is by identifying those that can physically compete so that they can improve technically as individuals and tactically as a group. Those that cannot maintain physical fitness at some point have to be cut loose.

If you set Palmer aside for the moment (thankfully), the majority of our most favoured and important players are looking like they are made of glass. James, Fofana, Lavia, Nkunku, That's a great spine of any team...when fit, but we cannot afford to constantly have workarounds as these important players constantly breakdown.

Its been a very up and down start to the season and the transfer window has added and extra element of noise about the club. As the dust settles surely the decision to push both Ugochukwu and Santos out on loan leaving the injury prone Lavia as out only qualified DM, must be viewed as almost a criminal level of negligence.

Schrödinger's right-back: he's simultaneously the best and the worst right-back in the league. We'll never know as long as he's injured.

Not for me.. Everyone keeps calling him the best based on his exploits 3 seasons ago, game has moved on. Definitely on the chopping board come next summer, won’t be surprised if he turns out to be another Chilwell where no club wants to touch him.

I have to agree with this. He was world class in the champions league run - but aside from a few standouts, he has been mediocre for the small handful of games he has been fully fit since then.

My problem is that I don’t know if this is due to stagnation/decline, a loss of confidence in himself (physical or ability) or simply if he has never had a prolonged run of fitness to get back to where he was.

As ever - it’s probably a toxic mix of all 3

But for sure, if he can’t stay fit - then it is pointless keeping him.

I already posted my opinion of Reece, but with a few "ifs" and "maybe's". Unfortunately I feel i can remove those now.

It's really hard to post this but I agree with some of you that unfortunately his time at the club should come to an end in January or latest next summer.

He's just not capable of keeping up with the workload/speed/etc in the PL with all his injuries, past and present. I hope we move him to a much easier league and one where he can shine as the great footballer he is/was but also one less intense on his injuries.

Great servant of the club when around but that's getting less and less and deserves to enjoy the game without worrying of being back in the nurses office every time he steps onto the pitch.

We need to get him fit and play him very sparingly till we get to the January or summer transfer market. Hopefully he will still command a high price by then.

This is a great video of TT explaining how he turned Reece James into a world class player. He's not been used in remotely the same way since he was sacked and it should be no surprise to anyone he's never come close to the same level again, injuries or not.

I still believe we would have won the league in 21/22 if Chilwell and James stayed fit. We were flying and top of the league with Chilwell & James bombing down the flanks with the freedom to do so. And that was the genius of TT, our attackers weren't that great but he used them in such a way that our world-class wingbacks at the time were released and as long as they stayed fit we were fantastic. But it did of course fall apart when they both got injured at the same time with us lacking adequate backups and that remains a great shame.

At some point a decision may have to be made about the on field captaincy ... I can see Maresca/(club) giving that to Enzo permanently ....

While he's still here, I'd have Reece appointed as club captain, which can be a separate role to the playing captain.

I shouldn't have watched that...I miss TT, i love his tactical brain.

I dont know if anyone would come in for Reece anymore. I actually think seeing if we have some sort of insurance that allows him to be paid off separate from PSR and give him some non-playing role within the organization might be the best solution.

At a certain point he’s going g to be gone too long to try and play again. He already looked a bit lost and off it in his returns. It takes a long time of steady playing and slowly being reintegrated to get your brain and body on the same page for something like the PL. has he made it back for longer than two games?

He came back from his injury and win man of the match last season, was easily the best player on the pitch.

He did - but when else has he been on it in the last 18 months?

Liverpoolx2, City, Spurs, West Ham, Dortmund off the top of my head.

Not giving up on him until he's not performing when he is playing.

We all hope he comes good.....needs to get fit, then put together a prolonged run of games, and perform.

A big ask given the history and trajectory

As much as i love seeing him play, he cannot stay fit. I've thought for a couple of years now, if only we could get him fit for long enough to sell. He currently costs us about £3m a game. This cannot keep going on. With FFp and PSR, no club can afford a luxury like that.

Worth every penny.
