It's odd. Petrovic clearly looks better to the eye, but he's actually worse in the stats. I guess it's just cos he doesn't pass the ball right to the opposition every game.

I think that data may be skewed by the first 8 league games when we only let in 5 goals. Sanchez played in all of those games, but if I remember correctly we were playing 3 central defenders a lot of the time so that may have had more to do with it.

I think both keepers have strengths and weaknesses. Sanchez is a liability with the ball at his feet but uses his height well on crosses. Petrovic is much safer with backpasses etc. but I am less confident with him on set pieces. Both are decent shot stoppers I think.

He is better. Apart from the mistake at the weekend, there is nothing he can do about the goals he is conceding. It's down to poor defensive coaching and mediocre defending.

Has there ever been a point with Petrovic where we have said "he should have saved that" ? I can't think of any outside of the mistake against Burnley.

No idea when his expected return is but I just pray he doesn't come back this year. He's got no chance of the Euros and we're mid table, just take the extra few months and get ready for pre season.

Poor lad is one more season of injuries away from getting totally written off, something a few are already starting to do. Hopefully taking the surgery this time will crack the issue, I just can't believe the club didn't make him this time last year when he was in a similar siutation.

While Gusto is a good player he isn't at Reece's level of decision making and performance consistency.

I think this next recovery will be Reece's last chance. Its a very very long road if it doesn't succeed.

Reece is 24 years old so his peak years are ahead of him but if he doesn't recover from this horrible cycle of injuries we should look to sell him unfortunately. I think Italy or Spain would suit his body better although the man is built for Premier League. The pace and the quick changes of direction must harm him a lot.

We only have hope he recovers well and stays fit. We are so lucky to have Gusto as his backup.

Can’t believe some are calling for him to be sold. Madness. Utter madness.

It really isn’t madness. You can’t have your highest earner starting less than 70% of your games. If he doesn’t play again this season, he would have earned £2.5m/ start this season. It’s bad business.

If I were Gusto’s agent I would tell him to hold off against renewing his contract. If he continues improving & James can’t stay fit, I would advise him to demand parity with James or ask to be transfer listed.

He needs a relatively injury free season before any big teams  would bid for him. If he's fit and playing to the level he's capable of, doubt many fans would want him to be sold. The real possibility is the ownership group will have to sale him to balance the books down the road.

Could say the same for Palmers agent comparing what he is doing to say Sterling. While Raheem has been available for most of the season,  he may as well have not been.

That's the key thing though. Bad form is another thing but being available gives your team options.

In the same way James could have been available and not performed well. Unlikely though but some could say exactly the same about Sterling too that it is unlikely he wouldn't perform. And though right now Palmer is everyone's flavour, let's not forget at the start of the season, Sterling single handedly won games for us too.

No one has ever said James should be sold in relation to his quality, it's all been about if he can't stay injury free, because apart from the obvious physical contribution he can't make, he's also the captain and one more body in the treatment room that is constantly in there, frustrates his teammates psyche as well as the medical staff looking after him.

We need to careful with Palmer though; this season he was an unknown, next season he will be a marked man. He is on £80k/w presently, I would bump it up to £150k/w with generous appearance/win/assist bonus. Wouldn’t go crazy with the basic because he might not hit these heights next season. Rashford & Martinelli are prime examples of what happens when you bump up wages ridiculously on the back of a unique season. James & Colwill fall in the same category IMO even though some might disagree.

Bump x2 in 2nd year of 7 Yr contract? That's how the wage bill spirals. Most I'll bump it up to will be £100k after 2 seasons with generous performance based bonuses.

That's all far too sensible :-)

Given the track record of Executive decision making and contract "negotiation" both now and under Roman I think there's every chance we break the bank for Cole's impending contract increase LOL

We’d be lucky to get 50 million up front for him when the window opens. He’s had the surgery finally so it would be mad to sell him now. Maybe if we’re in the same position with him next season it could possibly be a conversation but now? No chance  unless someone bids 9 figures and that’s wishful thinking.

The fans could probably stomach selling Gallagher but there would be a meltdown if James was sold imo

But why would you sell him now that he's finally had the surgery he needed?

This is what I don't understand, he's needed surgery for a while, he's has it and a full recover period and now people wsnt to sell him, that's insane.

Makes me sick to my stomach that there's actual Chelsea fans that want to see this man sold, he's the only player in our squad outside of Palmer that would be able to create Jackson's goal yesterday.

Cream of the crop.

Nobody wants the player of yesterday sold.

What they want to sell is the prospect of a player who is on a lot of money and can only play 10-15 games a season.

I really hope England leave him the f**k alone this summer.

Yeah hearing Redknapp and co say Southgate should take him since they have a 26 man squad was a chiller.

We know if he goes with e gland likely he misses most of next season.
