Seems like surgery is being discussed as a realistic option now

It’s the only option if he wants a career, just see this season as that’s it for Reece and get him fit by actually fixing the problem and not putting plaster on it.

Indeed. I wonder if Chilwell is in a similar boat.

Isn't this his 7th hamstring problem in like 3 years or something like that ?

I wonder if it is the same problem every time, or even the same leg ... ?

Typically surgery is reserved for actual muscle tears, so maybe he's just pulling it, which is why they haven't operated thus far ?

Whatever it is, I hope they are able to identify WHY the problem keeps recurring, and fingers crossed that there is actually something that can be done to effect a permanent fix.

Poor bloke must be gutted.

Maybe just build up of scar tissue that needs surgical trimming and repair.

Maybe, and all the stories flying about from surgery would not help, to surgery would help but would mean Reece misses the euros and he is not willing to do that, to us pushing to get surgery to us not doing so.

Basically all the theories, nobody knows the truth but Reece and those involved.

One thing is truth though, we cannot have a player on a contract that is pre wage cap of 150,000k and is actually on 250,000k plus and barley plays for now 3 seasons.

Either us and Reece need to find a permanent solution, or he is sold, or he agrees to take a large wage drop.

He had the knee injury last season that kept him out for a long period. But other than that most of his games missed have been through hamstring issues. This would be the 4th hamstring issue this year alone. I don't think he has had the surgery on his hamstring before, but I think he has to try that now. He cannot continue this pattern or his career will be wrecked.

Tuchel ran Kovacic, Chilwell, James, Kante, and Mount to the ground.

I'll take £100,000 a month to be run into the ground talkless the £100000/wk Kovacic or £86,000/wk Mount were getting.

James is one of the best in the world when on his game....these days this is pretty rare. Chillwell is the same.

Continuing to bank on the likes to Chilly and James to be fit and one day get over their injury woes is madness, and is costing us both on the field and in terms of Reece's value plummeting. The reality is that we could have had Livramento as a viable class alternative, but instead, we backed Reece and allowed the youngster to leave - and since then, James has hardly played.

Hindsight is amazing - but we need to learn from these mistakes. We cannot rely on Reece or Chilly. History has shown that. Wake up and smell the coffee...

Spot on Jim.

I agree, this isn't the clubs fault. James was clearly the most talented out of the lot, Libramento, Lamptey, etc. We had to stick with him, but unfortunately, we just have no luck whatsoever.

But we definitely need to learn from this and stop signing injury prone players.

We need to accept the fact that James and Chilwell are both finished players who will never play consistently, I would honestly sell the pair of them as soon as we can at this point. Because relying on the pair of them has massively cost us the last few years. We need fullbacks that are not only good, but don't go missing for over half the season every season.

Poor Reece's situation has got me thinking about how incredible it was that Frank Lampard played in 164 straight PL games at the height of his career. The next highest for an outfield player is apparently 115 !

Thats so good. Injured but go to party.

Can someone tell if that kind of events ever happened in times when the things are so bad? Terry, Frank, Didier, Hazzard, Ivanovic, Cheh ever did this?

"vital bonding session"

Yes! Most years there is a private Xmas party

There are Xmas parties every year, so this one doesn't stand out as anything particularly special....

....that said, it does 'feel' like the 'spirit' of this team is not the same as it used to be. I appreciate that this is not an evidenced opinion, but is instead based solely on intangible perceptions - but to me, this current crop of players doesn't 'feel' particularly tight-knit.

For example - If I was in a bar fight  - I would have been confident that the likes of JT, Lamps, Essien., Ballack, Diego C, Rudi, JFH, Eidur, Wisey, Jody M, Kerry D, Azpi, Alonso, Kova, Giroud,  cahill, Luiz, Alex,  Brana, Riccy, (to name but a few we have had over the years) , would have had my back.

With this current lot, I am not sure there is much fight in any of them. Connor would get stuck in. Disasi might. Nico Jackson would probably lose his head and glass someone... but the rest of them? I am not sure.

Cucurella would have had your back but he was in the wrong bar ...

Jackson, as you describe him is my choice to take into a trench and go hunting. 🙂 got to love a crazy attitude. Hope he starts dealing it out to defenders.
