Valencia v Chelsea (CL) Wed 27th Nov 17:55 GMT

Oh my, what a pitiful display of refereeing a match. Most shambolic display since when, that Barcelona UCL match at Stamford Bridge? Obviously a lot less riding on this one, but unbelievable nonetheless. Did everything they could to give Valencia the match. Dreadful. The style of officiating other European leagues bleeds into these UCL matches and it ruins so many games. And not to mention 7 extra minutes!! The 4-4 draw with Ajax that has several goals and VAR reviews and a pen only had 4. These two games were reversed of what they should have been.

Very fortunate Valencia could not finish there many sitters. Really struggled playing out from the back. Kepa pulls a few stunners here and there. Zouma is shaky as well.

Kepa with an awesome save on the Pen. Second Valencia goal was just one of those goals you cannot do much with.

Pulisic with a terrific flick.

Kovacic had an awesome game and glad to see him score.

Very nervy, but got the result we needed. Just need to win at home vs Lille.

Come on you Chelsea!!

Valencia players kept going into the ref's face about everything. I don't watch la liga often but is that how it is there? Referee also seemed to cave into all their calls apparently

Either way I thought this was an okay match and probably a better result for us than Valencia, however, I cant help but feel we were defensively poor yet again and Valencia could have easily stolen the game if they put some of their chances away. If Tammy's injury is serious its going to be a cold and hard december for us.

The red was shocking .. absolutely shocking.. not an overbo levels but called thrice on Kante.. the penalty which wasn’t..

Without Jorginho, Kante and Kovacic look lost out there. Second time Frankie takes off Jorghy and the team looks clueless in almost every segment of the game. James looked shaky, Emerson couldn't cover anyone at all he just made 1 good run and took the pressure off for 2 minutes...

Lets assume we beat Lille and go through, whatever team we get, it's a scary thought because we can get smashed if we play like this.

Today we’ve been very lucky they missed 2 sitters & a pen. The pen save papers over the goalkeeping cracks. AC & Zouma are a terrible CB pairing. Saving the worst for last the 2 Bob referee  - is it that UEFA assign the biggest muppets to chelsea fixtures ?

all in all we still in with a shout at KO round but with Tammy out who knows how results are gonna pan out as we saw today Bats ain’t fit for muster.

Still didn’t lose !!

carefree then

But at the end still in. A win vs lille and that's the qualification in the bag. But we can talk about Reece James ???? HE HAD A MARE IN THE 2ND HALF !!!!! GOT FOUND OUT EVERY TIME !!!!

Would agree. Plus looked very lead footed in the end. I realize most were gassed but he looked flat out on his feet.

BUT, still love this kid. I think he will have a long Chelsea career.

I am ready for Rudiger’s return. Need his stability and soon.

Of course. Just that a change could have done the kid good. But then again who would have played in CB though ?

We will most probably face a big team and we are underdogs. If we go out we go out. Much rather have that tie than go in the EL.

I think he struggled when we switched to the back 3.. positionally he was suspect.. which is understandable given his age.. not too worried about him.. think he will learn..

If we beat Lille, does that guarantee us through? What happens if Ajax win tonight then their match against Valencia ends in a draw?

We'd all be on 11pts.

We beat Ajax so we go through

Me too, just afraid of a potential big loss that's all. Cause the very best teams out there could punish us very hard every 2 minutes if the team plays like they did in the late second half...

Very true. Back 3 is sihte really. They got 20 something counters I believe in 2nd half !!!

Kepa's performance is inevitably going to suffer when the defence in front of him is so poor.

The CL has been a brilliant experience for our young players, they are learning massive amounts which will benefit us long term.

None of the systems we put out worked for us.. back to 4-2-3-1 I think.. and Kepa.. he’s just not consistent enough.. he should have saved the first goal having got a hand to it.. honestly unfortunately his size is not working for us..

I think with playing twice a week Frank has not got time to drill the team in different formations.

5 at the back and we looked more vulnerable than ever, Kante should have changed to DM if we are to go into defensive mode. Azpi was great in the CB role though, made some goal saving blocks. Giroud should have come on as target man as well but I think he's being wrapped up to be shipped out in January.

Unlucky really to concede the second but jeez they missed some sitters. In a match like that you have to be able to shut down and scrap to hold on. We were far too open in the last 15. For me that's not an issue of the young players as it is with Frank. You've got to be able to adjust and tell the players to put their foot on the ball and sit a bit deeper. There was literally a counter a minute in the last 10. If Rodrygo scores we go out of the group. Simple as. Fact we were still throwing ourselves forward and leaving huge gaps was madness.

I kind of like that because we are learning. We can't go back to Jose Mourinho. We should be Frank's Chelsea and win like Frank's Chelsea.

I'm not expecting Jose's Chelsea, but my point is the same as it was with Sarri last season. You have to know when to adjust. Now it may be that he was yelling at them on the sideline to control and sit deeper but it wasn't getting through. Either way, our shipping of goals in big games or at big moments is a concern and if we actually want to grow and win things that is a key area of growth.

Some early thoughts on the knockout stage opponent, given we beat Lille, we most likely get a Group Winner. The only way we win the group would be if Ajax and Valencia draw (should Ajax win today over Lille as expected).

If this holds true, we would appear to get one of the following: PSG, Bayern Munich, Juventus (Sarri), Barcelona/Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Napoli (if they beat Liverpool tonight). Tired of seeing PSG, though they are beatable perhaps this year.

It will be a tough 2 legs regardless, but better than playing Young Boys or Basil in the Europa League.

Come on you Chelsea!!
