Most importantly is Val still alive? emoji16.png

Only the memory of our triumphs against Ajax kept me alive :stretcher:

This football malarky is costing me years of my life :hiding:

I am ready for Rudiger’s return. Need his stability and soon.

Don't we ever. We need his physicality and most importantly his organisational/leadership skills in defence.

Have to say watching Parejo for Valencia tonight that real midfield general who directs the team and controls the tempo in the big moments, it is so valuable. Once Jorginho went off (understandable given the booking) we were a bit like headless chooks.

Kepa - Great penalty save, couldn’t do much for the fluke goal.

Zouma + Christensen - Can we never see these two paired again please. Christensen has showed how assured Tomori is, even though he’s shaky at times too.

James - I thought he was decent, just gassed out towards the end.

Azpi - Did ok

Kovacic - Another decent performance, great goal.

Jorginho - Was abit sloppy but clearly marked by 2 players.

Kante - Nowhere near his usual self tonight

Pulisic - Looked lethargic

Willian - Started strong but fizzled out to usual self

Not going to talk about Abraham. So gutting.

'Nearly won it, nearly lost it'

Speaking on BT Sport, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard said: "We nearly won it, nearly lost it. It was end to end, not that we wanted it to be.

"It's difficult to come here, I know that from coming here as a player. When the atmosphere turns, sometimes you're hanging on, but it keeps it in our hands.

"Parts of our performance I'm not mad on. We gave away too many chances. We missed a lot as well. That's something we're doing a lot of at the minute - not putting our chances away.

"But can't turn away from fact they had a lot of chances. They were arriving in our box too much. Credit to the players for their work-rate and hanging on in there, but sometimes you have to be more secure than that."

I dare say we are going to get a load of ref was a c**t posts but let's be honest folks. We got a lucky point. They outplayed us for large chunks of the game bar them missing umpteen sitters.

I take back left back being the priority number 1 when ban is lifted. We could have four William Gallas' in our defence and it would look shaky due to having no confidence in the keeper. He makes too many mistakes too regularly to be a top drawer goalkeeper. Not just letting in poor goals but also plain daft distribution.

The Valencia keeper looks very good.

Serious reservations about our keeper. Great penalty save but, beyond that the usual mix of poor distribution, limp wrists and spectating. Their keeper did look very assured throughout (fortunately their strikers were anything but assured).

Overall, an entertaining game of football but one that showed up a lot of areas where we need to improve hugely.

Thought James was excellent for 80 minutes. Looks absolute top drawer.

We beat Lille, we are on 11pts.

Ajax win tonights game and draw against Valencia, they are on 11pts. Valencia would finish with 9pts.

So we would go through.

Silly of me.

A weird time, 18.00 fine yet 17.55?

Its to make sure there's enough time to turnover between the first set of matches and the second.

Thought he struggled when we went 3 at the back but just unsure of his role I think.

I'm really impressed with his crossing. He doesn’t take the easy option of just floating a cross in but mixes it up well with high, low, floated, stingers, pull backs and front and near post crosses. Clever player I think, and look forward to him cementing his place in the team.

This is not a reaction to tonight, so maybe it goes in another thread?.

Frank must have plans to replace Kepa.

Most people will agree on a Centre Back and Full Back so this might be the most difficult decision for him?

We can't keep letting these fluke goals in. If it's once in a while, then ok but the amount of fluke goals the opposition has scored with this season shows that we are lacking in defensive organization and the players gave the opposition chances. At this level, you fight for every ball and there are no rooms for pre-judgement. Boot it clear and always try to keep it out

It's not easy to just go and replace a keeper especially considering his price tag, he might need some competition from someone better than Willy. That being said quite a few top keepers are having problems like Tibo and DDG, Kepa was better than this last season so we should try and improve him and return him to form first.
