I'm curious as to how Lampard intends to use Havertz.

He has been most effective this season as a false 9/CF and RW. He is most effective when deployed at advanced positions (CAM/RW/CF). Could we possibly see him and Ziyech interchanging between RW and the number 8 position? We've seen Frank do that with Willian/Pulisic swapping positions vs Palace. Havertz could even interchange with Werner up top, no clue. He is so versatile he can basically play 3 different positions. If he was to play as a CF then Werner would be used out wide on the left but then where would Pulisic fit in to the picture? Finding a formation to best accommodate all 4 of these players is the trick.

I like the lineup but it's too "streaky" for me, we'll concede as many as we score imho. Personally I'd prefer to see a more contained 4-3-3 with Havertz as a second striker (in a role similar to Firmino at Liverpool);

                                        Kepa/Caballero
Azpi/James - Zouma/Christensen - Rice/Lovren - Chilwell/Azpi
              Kovacic/Kante - Kante/Rice - Mount/RLC
        Willian/Ziyech - Havertz/Abraham - Werner/Pulisic

Are you serious? lmao

Pay 80, 90 or 100 million for a young promise.

More responsibility is required.
Real life is not a computer game.

I have a lot of doubts about this player, he plays for Leverkusen, for God's sake.

It may be, who knows, but it is not yet.
And as I say, I have many doubts, ...

For a reasonable price I could think of that, for those values, that some other club takes him.
Probably, he will stay in Leverkusen until he proves something more than he has done to date.

I see people comparing him to Cristiano and Messi.
The people are crazy.

He still has high resale value, if it doesn't work out we can sell him.

I'm not sure what you mean 'he plays for Leverkusen, for God's sake'.  First of all they're a good team fighting for CL places and still in the Europa League.  Secondly there are lots of players that come from worse teams to become world stars,  Hazard for example, Ronaldo came form Sporting Lisbon,  Lewandowski was around 21 when Dortmund bought him from Lech Poznan.  Fact is if he did play for a Bayern or Real we would have no chance of signing him.  I'm not saying he's the next Messi, he maybe a flop, but in todays market Hazard would have probably cost a similar fee, and I'm so glad we took a chance on him.

Pretty sure. After our cup final last saturday, Rudi Völler, who´s our managing director, said again that there won´t be a "corona discount". A few weeks ago, it was reported in Germany that we rejected a 70m bid from Real Madrid and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said before the cup final on live television that Bayern won´t go for Havertz this summer because they don´t have the funds after the Sané deal. Those things for me at least indicate that we pretty much insist on a certain price and that price would be 90m pounds.

As far as the Champions League goes, well it certainly hasn´t improved our chances of keeping Kai for 1 more season. But I doubt that it will have much impact on the prize tag. Our bosses spoke with him last summer and Kai knows that he can leave if a fee is agreed that meets our expectations. That is pretty much confirmed since 12 months. Of course our bosses want the highest fee possible and I wouldn´t exclude the possibility completely that we might sell him for a few millions less, but at this point, I doubt it. Völler recently said "We have an agreement. I personally hope that he stays one more year. If it fits, he could also leave this summer." I am not too familiar with Chelseas financial situation atm, but I guess after your transfer ban you have a few resources. Let´s see.

Oh, and we might still qualify for Champions League if we win the Europe League, but as I said, I doubt it will have impact on the prize tag.

We'll see in the next 2 weeks how things develop, if Havertz stays to help to win Europa League he might just stay for the full next season too.

               Kepa

James. Cb. Cb. Left back

         Kante  box to box

Ziyech - Havertz - Pulisic

———— Werner ———-

The 4231 suits our team well with the new signings. I’d really like us to continue using our young guns too however our defence is clearly our worst area. Midfield and attack is excellent.

Mount and Ruben would seriously have to work on their defensive side of their game to ply the role beside Kante. However both are very capable young players. Gilmour and Kova are also capable. I can’t see Barkley here next season though.

I see 2 to 3 players from the midfield pool leaving in the summer.

Kante and Barkley would be my 2 choices from our current first team squad.

Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Pantic, Musonda from our current loan players.

I would also sell Jorginho, but only if we plan on signing Milinkovic-Savic, otherwise I'd keep him

Yes, those two don't fit the profiles that Lamp seems to want.

Fast moving, quick thinking, and deadly precision.

Barkley, sadly doesn't meet any of that. Jorgie seems to meet only 1 of those criteria.

Even at only 21, he's played 140+ games and scored40+ goals, NOT just a promise or upcoming youngster anymore. We got money to spend that wasn't available to use over the last 2 years, so why not? The days where you get a good 21 year old on the cheap has long gone, we could wait another 12 months for the sake of saving 15-20M, but who knows what could happen. He could sign a new contract with an even bigger release clause, or all the top clubs will be gunning for him.

I’d wager that the only way we can get him is if we buy him this window. Next summer a host of clubs will have funds available.

I would add Kante to that list as well. And if we do manage to sell all 3, we'll be sitting on an extra 120-150m - Which can easily be used to fix our defence.

Out of interest have you taken out a subscription for the Athletic or are you just on the free trial? If the former, do you think it's worth it?

I've had it for almost a year. The articles are at a very good quality.

Nonsensical argument. We bought Hazard from Lille at a time where 30m for a youth prospect was unheard of.

Havertz has played at the top level for 140+ games scoring 40+ goals. For a 21 year old, that's more than good enough.

This guy is on track to follow the playstyle of Thomas Muller. He has the unique blend of pace, height, technique and spatial awareness to see goalscoring chances.

If Lampard were to get his hands on Havertz and taught him how Frank Lampard (the player) sees the game, we could see something magical

I've been an athletic subscriber since its inception and its fantastic coverage. Highly recommend doing a free trial to see if you like it.

Express (I know) have said Frankie and Marina have clashed as frank is pushing for Havertz and she wants a more balanced team and to invest in defence.

If true shouldn’t she be leaving that part to petr as she isn’t from a football background.

I can see the logic but I also see the logic in doing it over 2 seasons. Havertz is a big opportunity to solidify a world class attack and midfield line up.

Defence can be worked on in the next window, could be nothing great in the market just now as far as top CB’s.

I’d rather get Hevertz and a decent 30 mil LB than w**k it away on Chilwell and risk on a CB that will likely be no better than what we have and wait for the right CB next window.

I’d be happy to go in with Zouma and Tomori if we had that slick team in front of them.

                   kepa

Azpi   Zouma    Tomori     Tagliafico

                    Kante

     Kova                       Havertz

Ziyech          Werner           Pulasic

That’s title contenders, and about 110 mil away, we can afford it especially if we offload Jorginho, Emerson, Barkley. Add defensive players next window and that’s a top class team.
