Set pieces lame, pace not good enough. We had some chances but blew them. We can win it but we can also lose it with 80% possession.

If we had 4 hours we'd never score playing like this, all we do is push the ball wide and throw in a hopeful cross into a box full of black and white shirts..does anyone actual want to try shooting beyond 6 yards...

Anybody else feeling that Jorginho is too isolated? So many bodies up the pitch man marked, barely anybody coming back for the one two to open up gaps.

It’s like a home match, Newcastle are happy to let us have possession but have still come the closest to scoring.

My god but Newcastle play some lumpen sh*tty football. They have no ambition beyond a punt forward and hope that one of the forwards can run on to it.

 

We've looked laboured but honestly against this kind of meaty packed 10 men behind the ball bullsh*t I can see why it's hard going...

Not great viewing that first half. Very little cohesion and it's all been a bit............meh.

We need to up a few gears second half and hope CHO and Willian produce a bit more and Tammy gets into the game.

I could get behind that. Mount hasn't done much wrong but he's just a little lightweight, I think in this game Barkley with his bulk and direct running might be what we need.

Very lively game, we're playing not bad, we're playing correctly as well. All we need is to find the hole between Newcastle CB's, I like to see the football from our right wing, James and CHO are doing good. 

Willian is woke up in the last 15 minutes, Abraham needs more chances until now he didn't get enough service. Mount is little disappointing me, he is the missing one in our front line. 

Kante is doing a lot of movement and causing a lot of problems to Newcastle, sadly he doesn't have the finishing ability.

Anyways, we have to score a goal in the first 10 minutes of the second half, we must gain that confidence before it will be too late, Newcastle might be dangerous in their counter attacks.

I really hope Lampard will get the game right in the second half. COME ON CHELS!!!!

Meanwhile new Dortmund wonderkid Haaland scored a 20 min hattrick to turn around a game they were chasing 1-3 to win 5-3.

Football is quite harsh so i think we have to admit we have need to have an upgrade on Mount in his position. Would love to have him make it but as a 10 his performances are not cutting it.

He's like a worse version of Oscar, who himself wasn't that great.

Mount's been useless today, clogged the space on our best chance. Willian to Azpi to cluster. Would like to see Pedro in this game instead... his movement opens things up in tight space.

Reece James is an 8/10 so far for me. Looks the class of the pitch.

Need more quality in that final 3rd.

Same story as most games tbh. 

Build up is decent, we control midfield, but when we get in the final 3rd, poor execution. 

Might sneak a win. 

Newcastle have the lowest possession in the league - beware.

Kante and Mount are playing like traditional inside forwards.

We are trying to score by crosses from the wing and its not coming off as Reece lines up to cross Tammy has often stopped moving so he recycles.

If we had Kovacic threatening to break through middle it would give us more variation in attack and make us less predictable.

 

What a rubbish half of football. Us not being able to break down defensive teams has become too predictable now. The passing from us is sh*te, the movement isn't great either. Nobody looks willing to take on a man, or play a dangerous pass, we can't even cross the ball, especially from corners. I don't know what we think we are going to achieve by constantly playing it side ways and back to the defenders, that just hands the advantage to the defensive team. You're not going to break these teams down unless you put consistent pressure on their defence. We have seen this time and time again over the years with us.

A few players aren't switched on either, Rudiger being the main one. I think Hudson-Odoi, Abraham, and Mount need to be doing more as well. Kante still looks all over the place. He's playing way too far foward, and his decision making in attacking areas is still really poor. I also think him playing so far forward is hurting us defensively too, Jorginho is looking isolated and it's going to take one decent ball and run from Newcastle player to put us in serious trouble. It wouldn't be the first time we have been caught out like that this season.

Need another player in midfield I think, Kante has done a better job than Mount going forward at least, I would bring Mount off for Kovacic and let Kante go forward instead.

You must be on a wind up, hes arguably our best defender. Keeps the ball ticking nicely and good in defence.

Again, it’s not nearly as bad as some of the commentary suggests. Christensen looking like a really classy prospect right now (I’ll probably come to regret that, I know), shape of our midfield I’m not crazy about. Lampard mentioned barkley might be disappointed to be left out. Then what’s the rationale for doing it?? I do miss Kova too and his midfield runs - maybe he’s just a bit out of form? As I’ve said, it’s good there’s so much competition for the midfield spots.

Yes but Ausburg played with a riduclous high line ! wich is the complete opposite of whats happening here

I agree, if Mount was a player who we signed for 40 million in the summer we would be furious, can't keep letting him off because he's young all the time, he needs to step up.
