Edouard Mendy to Chelsea!

Rumour has it Everton will cash in on Pickford if they get a good enough offer. He would be an upgrade on Mendy as things stand imo. Mendy has been shocking since the ACoN.

I raised this prospect the other day. I think Pickford would be a decent buy, he is better than Kepa, and can really put pressure on Mendy. He is better than Mendy with his feet, better at penalties and possibly better as a shot stopper. He isnt as good at crosses and isnt as commanding - so not perfect, but very few GKs are.

He was good at crosses but has lost his form lately and yesterday that late equaliser should have been his. He’s not clearly dominating crosses lately, which was a strong point. Needs to be benched, unfortunately we’ve got Kepa as second, but maybe I’d play him against Leeds.

No, I couldn't ever take that.  Kepa and Pickford as our two goalies is a level of torture no fan deserves.

I don’t think he’s very good but we’ve got higher priorities in the summer, he’s generally solid but he’s not in Ederson, Allison, Neuer, Donnarumma, Navas, De Gea class

I agree with all except that I don’t think that Ederson or Allison can be put at the same level as Neuer, not even a prime De Gea. I don’t even think they are level with Donbarumna either tbh.

It would be interesting to actually know what Cech thinks of him now,Mendy is a number 2 at best for a team who wants to challenge for top honours.

Pirates Of The Caribbean Agree GIF

Mendy was commanding, especially in the air. Not since the league cup final.

He was a leader, not since the league cup final.

He used to inspire confidence, not since the league cup final.

He used to regularly make world class saves that would make the difference, not since the league cup final.

He may well be a Malouda, have a purple patch one year where he looks a world beater but then just becomes an average keeper.

Not saying Pickford is a world beater by any means but teams who compete at the top, and win the top trophies, have world class keepers.

Mendy last year looked world class. A purple patch? Could we be.

This year either Ederson or Allison wins the league.

This year either Tibo or Allison wins the CL.

This year Allison wins the FA Cup.

So in short we should make a change IF we aim to be at the top imo.

If the Todd wants to open the wallet for A list material, how about we buy out Jan Oblak contract?

Literally won the CL with him.

Donnarumma is bang average. Been massively over rated since the Euro's, same as a lot of the Italian players.

Purple patch.

Not that I want Mendy gone but he's beginning to look suspect.

Like a fair few of the squad, Mendy's form has dipped significantly as this season has gone on and if we had a better back-up, he wouldn't be a guaranteed starter for the cup final.

Hopefully we will offload Kepa in the summer and sign another keeper meaning there will e real competition for the keepers jersey. I think there might be something in what others have said, that everything clicked for Mendy and he rode that wave but now he is back to the level he used to be at. It does happen. There have been a number of players who just hit that purple patch only to revert to type. Michael Ricketts at Bolton is the one I always remember. Had an unbelievable run and made the England squad only to disappear back into obscurity!

Jamie Cumming.

Some may say it's too risky but MK Dons fans are in love with him and he has more experience than Kelleher did when he took the number 2 mantle at Liverpool.

Furthermore even a quality back up would cost a fair bit and funds need to be focused elsewhere.

We need to be signing a new ‘first choice’ to add real competition though not some free 35 year old waster who’s happy to sit on the bench.

So not advocating yourself for this role then Munk?

I Know a few Gillingham fans as well and when he was there at the beginning of the season, they rate him really highly... saying he's going to be a top top keeper... Similar to a few Charlton mates when they had Gallagher and said he would go on to be mustard... hopefully these lower league fans know what they are talking about...

We also have Nathan Baxter, who has had a succession of decent loans, most recently at Hull City in the Championship, where he had the highest save percentage (79.5%) in the division !

Be interesting to see if either of them make it at CFC ...

Maybe they get a chance if Mendy continues his fall from Grace.

Pool will expose just how much his standards have dropped imo.

Mendy can have the old Dracula, scared of crosses joke now as his Kepa impression vs Wolves showed, he has not made a world class save in a long time, or even a top save, he brings no confidence to the defence and his footwork is rubbish.

Honestly he is the biggest disappointment of our players to me this season as I went in expecting Rom to be a poor signing.

I had hopes we really had found a real gem, a worlds top keeper in Mendy. Boy was I wrong.

There's some good potential keepers flying around that division at the moment. There's the Plymouth keeper who faced us aswell as Bazanu who's on loan at Pompey from City.

The latter is obviously out of bounds but if we didn't have Cumming I genuinely wouldn't have been against us signing the former.

That's a little bit extreme based on a poorish run of form is it not?

I don't think it is,bloke is crap with ball at feet and useless at penalties, well that's just my opinion.

To me after what we were watching from kepa, any half decent goalie was going to stand out,but now we know his flaws he isn't good enough,he is not rubbish but not quite what we need to fully progress.
