Edouard Mendy to Chelsea!

Mendy wins another penalty shoot out vs Egypt. 3-1

. Egypt had 2 penalties miss the target including Salah and Mendy saved one. Hopefully We keep faith with Mendy when next we have a shootout. His frame is a big plus because he makes the goalpost look small

Man he has to be the worst passer of a ball we have had in a long time.

That attempt at a save on goal 3 from a big keeper was awful too.

Hi passing has been a liability for a long time. The number of times his kicking puts us in trouble is astounding.

Usually makes up for it with his big presence, shot saving and cross claiming. Was poor today though.

quoting myself.....

I said the other day he was a liability with his feet - and he has well and truly f**ked us today.

Pure stupidity. Week after week he almost costs us - well, he has f**ked us again tonight.

If we actually passed forwards as a first thought it would solve the problem, as the ball would hardly ever go back to him :-)

And this is why the first thing Pep looks for in a keeper is his ability with the ball to feet, priority in the modern game. Behind most diamonds in the rough or bargain buys is always a flaw the top scouts already knew about.

I grew to like Mendy but his last two performances are absolutely abysmal. I think he needs a rest and let Kepa on for a change. Because this is unacceptable.

Brentford, now Real Madrid. Partly to blame for conceding SEVEN goals in 2. Not good enough, and this is why we can't challenge City or Liverpool because of pathetic mistakes like this.

We can't challenge the front runners because of our attack not because of Mendy. If our attackers performed like Mendy including his off days then we would be challenging.

I don’t think benching him would be good. He’s been largely excellent for 2 years. His feet are a clear weakness but in general it never got exposed badly, the last few weeks he’s just been doing ridiculous things. He’s had a couple very small ropey periods in his Chelsea career which he has rebounded from already and id back him to do that again.

To all those saying it's one mistake. It isn't!

There is rarely a game go by when Mendy doesn't have at least 1 nightmare with his kicking. Whether that is a misplaced pass, a hesitation that allows him to be closed down, poor control or a shank into the stands.

He cost us tonight.

The madness is that he isn't learning from his past mistakes. If this was a one off, then i could forgive, but to do the same thing over and over again is inexcusable

You're correct. I have to agree.

He had never look comfortable with the ball at this feet.

He should recognize this and get rid of it as fast as he can, but he has the tendency to hold onto it maybe a second or two too long.

He has been shanking passes all season, started with that one in super cup. Courtois looked more composed with the ball at feet and that was supposed to be his biggest weakness. Its strange because Mendy has good passing range, he just keeps making kicking errors though. 1st one that has cost us a goal though, and even tonight Rudiger should have bailed him out.

I think its just a part of his game we have to accept, at 30, i dont see it drastically improving tbh. Hopefully the good gets back to outweighing the bad.

I agree it’s not just one mistake , there’s been a few in recent weeks , but until then I think he’s largely been ok , it’s a clear weakness but he seemed to just play a simple pass or clear it. The last few weeks a nervousness has set in.

In recent years ourselves , Liverpool and Man Utd have switched between goalies and it helped no one. The alternative is benching him for Kepa and in my opinion that’s still a sizeable downgrade.

I just wish he would realise what his limitations are, he is awful with the ball at his feet whether it’s controlling it or passing. It’s not ideal but for now we need to work around, not keep letting him try and pretend he’s Ederson.

I think he is a world class goalkeeper, the saves he makes majority of the time are incredible. But yeah, his passing is terrible. I still wouldn’t replace him, we just need to make sure he doesn’t get too much time on ball.

I’m still a big fan of him.

I think he’s been great so far for us but in the last few games he’s making some mistakes and isn’t as solid as before. Maybe he needs to rest for a bit to regain form.

Still a top keeper and I'm still fan but he is really poor with his feet.

I'd rather Tuchel just accepts that and he just launches the ball up the field every time.

Subtle, accurate passes are not his thing and it causes more harm than good.

Played a big role in us winning last years CL. Unfortunately he has more or less knocked us out with the mistake and allowing that first goal to beat him.

Lukaku and Ziyech could have bailed him out but did not.

Seriously needs to stop trying to play with the ball. Just clear it mate.
