Edouard Mendy to Chelsea!

Still a top keeper and I'm still fan but he is really poor with his feet.

I'd rather Tuchel just accepts that and he just launches the ball up the field every time.

Subtle, accurate passes are not his thing and it causes more harm than good.

That won’t work in the modern game where ball retention is key. Most top coaches would prefer a goalie brilliant with his feet and an average goalie (see Ederson, & Valdes), than the other way round.

what are the rest of mistakes of mendy?

Are you doubting that Mendy makes mistakes or genuinely interested in them?

There are loads. The ones that spring to kind are arsenal (passing to lancazette directly in front of him to give a huge chance he should have scored), west ham (messing around with the ball at his feet leading to a penalty which lanzini scored, Man utd (passing to directly to fred who should have scored), Man utd (again) when he was so close to scoring an own goal with a bizarre pass across the goal front, obviously last night.

These are all fresh in my mind, but there are loads more, almost every game there is at least 1 horror kick. I wince every time he gets the ball at his feet.

Courtois looked more composed with the ball at feet and that was supposed to be his biggest weakness. Its strange because Mendy has good passing range, he just keeps making kicking errors though. 1st one that has cost us a goal though, and even tonight Rudiger should have bailed him out.

I think its just a part of his game we have to accept, at 30, i dont see it drastically improving tbh. Hopefully the good gets back to outweighing the bad.

To be fair, Courtois the snake has years and years of experience in the highest level of football including from us and Madrid, while Mendy only has 2. It's going to take years for Mendy to be at that level.

EDIT: Wait he's 30?! Wow. That slipped me! Still, keepers last way longer than players, he still has a lot of time to improve.

Yep, you're right of course, but IMO he is a liability with his feet and we happen to get away with it most of the time (Ivan Toney chance on Saturday for example) but you can see that he's uncomfortable.

I just think he should just launch it more in certain situations, just my opinion of course, but we don't want a situation where teams press onto us knowing there is a good chance of one big mistake from Mendy in every single match.

If Tuchel wants a keeper who is good with his feet then Mendy isn't the one, and then we have a real problem.

We ain't clinical enough at the other end of the pitch to outscore our own defensive mistakes.

You are only as good as your recent form in most cases in football. Mendy is the same as basically anyone in the squad, bar Kante and Mount.

His recent form has not been good enough, it has cost us a chance to be in the semi final as we should be going back at 1-1 had he saved the near carbon copy Benzema header on goal 1 like he did last season and not messed around with the ball.

We don't know what the new owners will do, they may want to splash the cash for all we know and bring in Oblek.

Has been brilliant for us under TT but the writing has been on the wall all the time that his f**king about with the ball at his feet would cost us big time at some point and so it is now proving. Every side we face must know to put pressure on him every time the ball is passed back. The defenders need to NOT pass it back to him or he needs to be told just to hoof it up the park and stop trying to be clever.

He’s still a great keeper. Benzema has managed to take the ball from him and also from Donnarumma so there is something that Benzema does to keepers this season I think... Real Madrid managed to score fast goals against PSG and now against us, we should have done better as a whole unit.

Mendy's error was terrible, and I always worry that he will caught like that when  we play around with the ball at the back. That being said Rudiger should have done much better too. He was the first to the ball but went in with his left foot tentatively. Had he just blasted the ball with his stronger right foot, it would have likely gone out of play.

Looked to me that Rudiger was not expecting that ball and so had his feet positioned incorrectly with the ball bouncing off his left shin.

First looked like Mendy was going to pass to Silva yet saw him being closed down so went to Rudiger.

I think Mendy was too far out of his box so had less time to react.

Could be right. It is easy to analyze things like this in slow motion, and in real time Rudiger would have had very little time to react. I still think he could have gone into the challenge with more power. I guess the risk was there of a second yellow too though.

When in doubt, fecking kick it out. If he saw Silva being closed down, kick it out and ask questions later.

What Mendy did instead was the worst option, because at least Silva would have been prepared. Rudiger wasn't.

Was a brain dead move, and absolutely criminal for a player, playing at the highest level. Indicates a very very low footballing IQ...

No doubt a weakness, with the ball at his feet and needs work on, but probably something that is hard to coach a player. If they are just not technically gifted, then yeah but saying that there are goalkeepers that have improved with ball at their feet. Another concern is his hesitation in coming out of goal. He is rooted way to deep and the goalkeepers at the best club now regularly come of their line to clear a ball. He puts us in danger way too much. Top keeper but yes a lot of work needs to be done with the way we are looking to play. Because the ability to play out from the back is key to majority of top teams now.

And there's the customary terrible pass straight to the other team.

Every game without fail. He is a total liability with the ball at his feet. Should have done better with the goal as well.

Every game, and he doesn't look half the keeper he did a year ago. Carry on like this and he will be playing his way to the bench.

And I recall a few times when he received the ball on a united corner, And had an easy opportunity to make a quick throw pass to a player to start a nice counterattack, but of course he holds onto the ball and eventually kicks it long, killing any chance we have of a fast break.

I must admit he really doesnt fill me with confidence with the ball at his feet, then again neither did Cech.

He wouldn't get in the starting 11 of most top teams.

But....

We have so many other issues to fix, that I don't think replacing Mendy will be a priority.

His kicking is simply awful

Throwing this out there. Strong keeper, higher priorities, but if Kepa does move on, any better keepers out there? Mendys very good, not great.

Rumour has it Everton will cash in on Pickford if they get a good enough offer. He would be an upgrade on Mendy as things stand imo. Mendy has been shocking since the ACoN.
