March 8, 20215 yr Mendy Dave - Christensen - Rudiger CHO - Kante - Kovacic - Chilwell Mount - Havertz - Werner I'd be happy to see something like that tonight. Could be interesting to see Havertz get a start as a false 9 to try and bring Mount and Werner into the game as Everton aren't likely to offer as much space in behind as Liverpool did. CHO for James to try and help peg Everton back a bit deeper. Keep the back 3 the same, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
March 8, 20215 yr Slightly worried about today’s game. Everton are a decent side. I think this may end up as a draw. mendy azbi christensen rudiger james kante jorginho chillwell Havertz mount werner
March 8, 20215 yr This is probably going to be a tougher game than Liverpool. While Liverpool away would normally be a tough fixture they are woefully out of form, as demonstrated by Fulham's win their yesterday. Everton on the other hand are on a decent run and will be tough opposition. A win would put a little daylight between us and the chasing pack. A draw or defeat leaves us in a real battle for top 4. Although Spuds have rallied a bit recently, I would particularly keep an eye on those teams without the distraction of European competition as they will be able to put all their energy into the top 4 race. Everton are one of those teams so we really don't want to lose any ground to them.

If Everton win I think they go 2 points clear of us with a game in hand which makes it a big task to overcome so therefore a win today does wonders for our top 4 aspirations. I would make 2 changes to your lineup Giroud and Kovacic for Havertz and Jorginho, I don't think Everton will press us high up and therefore I don't think we will need Jorginho to assist in playing out from the back and with Giroud we will need a presence in the box.

At the moment we are not truly establishing a stronghold of the CL spots and every time we have the opportunity to do so we stumble, we have a young teams and the inconsistency seems to be understandable. I wouldn't say we're inconsistent at all. We're also not playing a particularly young/inexperienced team. In my opinion since Tuchel arrived we've stumbled exactly once, against Southampton. Wolves was a few hours in and Utd is simply not a must-win game. It would be a bit arrogant of us to consider it that, because in truth they're just annoyingly good at not losing. One slip-up in 9 matches (leaving Wolves aside) is actually remarkably consistent. Tonight we conclude the difficult Utd-Liverpool-Everton passage, followed by 4 games we're actually expected to win. So if we win tonight and thereby achieve an solid 4th place that would set us up fantastically - like I couldn't have dreamed of 6 weeks ago - and even a draw wouldn't be catastrophic.

You are right I think my wording may have been a little harsh, I think the frustration was more targeted at the last few matches in the league where we failed to truly grab the bull by the horns. Southampton I think was a poor performance and one where we didn't create much at all which was disappointing however the reason I included the United game was because I felt Tuchel got the starting lineup wrong in the game, we should've looked to hit them with pace in behind and unfortunately our frontline featured Giroud, Ziyech and Mount.

Kante should sit out this one and be kept fully fresh for Leeds (which is likely to be akin to a basketball game so in turn suits his skillset where tonight doesn't). Not playing him vs Leti turned out to be a masterstroke as he was fresh for United and Liverpool and gave good performances in both so in a similar fashion we should reserve his energy for Leeds and Leti.
March 8, 20215 yr Hope the players put in a good performance today. We need to keep up the momentum until we get a good enough lead over 5th and below

We need to improve on our display at Liverpool if we want to win. I would say we would need to be near perfect, keep the back tight, keep the ball, wear them down and be clinical up top. Only by breaking their spirit will we win. We dont get cheap pens to help us out in big games like United.

March 8, 20215 yr No Mount, No Kante, No Rudiger Too many changes for my liking tbh, worried with that lineup
March 8, 20215 yr Many folks seem to think this lineup will have Kai as a false 9. I’m not so sure. I think more likely we’ll see Werner up top with CHO and Kai just off him in either side. Everton won’t park the bus, so Werner should be open on some runs.
March 8, 20215 yr I like the look of that team. Mount needed a rest eventually, and I think this might be a game that suits Havertz. Everton are quite physical and not the quickest, right? I think we'll see him dropping deep as a false 9. With Odoi and Werner stretching the defence with pace, hopefully he finds the space he wasn't able to under Lampard (this isn't some veiled dig, I just mean a new tactical set up).

March 8, 20215 yr Zouma to play Central of the back three? Thought of him playing on the left makes me nervous. No Tammy again? He's clearly done something to upset Tuchel... Otherwise how does your top scorer keep missing out? Alonso up against Richarlison could be... Interesting?
