Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!

Featured Replies

We are stuck with him unfortunately. He is becoming our worst signing ever with his current performances.

I am baffled though, why did he leave inter when he was perfectly happy there!?

And, who makes these poor transfer decisions when 90% of us saw that Lukaku is not what we needed.

If we don't sign a striker next season i hope Broja plays instead, at least he is hungry and will score a few.

He said it in the Inter-view, Inter would not give him the money he asked for, Chelsea more than did so he asked to leave.

I’ve hated very few Chelsea players over the years. The last one was Christian Panucci when we had him on loan. Hate is a very strong word. Suffice it to say that I’m struggling not to detest this overweight waste of space and all he stands for.

Saying he stinks the place out is a massive understatement.

Roman has once before, to my knowledge, in his time here been willing to cost himself money deliberately in order to make a point/be spiteful.

That was how he dismissed Conte and treated him thereafter.

Romulus and his sort of behavior cannot be allowed to stand or we just keep encouraging more and more players to treat us disrespectfully.

I really hope Roman tells him personally he has to train with the reserves, if he does not show for even one session a week he is fined a week's wages and is up to him and his agent to find a move that gets us a good transfer fee or his career, especially his international one, is over as he will never play for us again.

Right, I’ve given Lukaku more chances than most people on here, but yeah the guy is absolutely sh*t. I couldn't believe what I was watching, oddly enough the more game time he’s getting the more toss he’s proving himself to be.

Thing is he is not this $h*t though.

We knew he would be useless against good teams but throughout his career he has been a star peddling bully and scored plenty against lesser team. He is not even doing that and is working less than any of his other previous sides. He is playing this poorly because imo he is doing it deliberately.

I don’t understand why fans always think there is a mysterious person responsible for making bad signings at the club, and let the manager take credit for the good ones when public information suggests this isn’t the case.
Lamps was responsible for signing Havertz & Werner, he flew to Germany to convince Werner to move here. Lukaku has stated he had conversations with Tuchel on how he intends to play him. You don’t have that type of conversation with someone you aren’t keen on signing. The reality is Tuchel is bad in the transfer market. You go through his list of signings during his career and the only standout is Mbappe. I don’t think you can credit him for that signing.

To be honest, I don't think the manager should be having so much say on who is bought to the club. This isn't me saying the manager should have no say at all, but I feel like it should only go as far as telling the likes of Petr Cech what type of player they are looking for. Cech and maybe a scouting team would then go out looking for those players and identify the one best suited to what the manager needs. I don't see how the manager himself can be the one to identify that player and ask the club to go and sign them. How would a manager have time for this? They don't even get the time to get a proper look at the youth players, so how do they get the time to look out for players all over the world and manage a squad full time? This is why signings like Mendy and Azpilicueta turn out so great. They are being watched and analysed and the club get a much better idea on how good of a fit that player will be for the club.

People love to praise Klopp for Liverpool's signings, but I bet he isn't as involved as people think he is. He has a team of people around him that will be looking all over for players that fit Klopp's style of football. Even players like Salah probably didn't have much to do with Klopp, they wanted him when we signed him, he was on their radar long before they actually got him.

Whoever had the most say on this transfer made a massive cock up. I would love to say we should take it as a lesson learned, but it seems to be a lesson we never actually do learn, and this time, I feel like it will be one mistake too many and really hurt us for a few years.

It is the sort of mistake that should see that person fired. If it was Cech, TT, a scout they probably will be. Only person at the club who would survive it would be Marina imo.

That will be worse, last thing we need is him rubbing off on the impressionable young and up and comers.

Well is that or stick with the first team, cannot tell him to stay at home his lawyers would have a field day.

Stick him on gardening leave and pay him to do nothing.

Ofcourse I'm not being realistic I'm just so fed up with him I'll happily forgo our summer transfer budget to pay him off at this point.

Well based on his reported wage in the summer we would need to commit to paying him 67.6mill before taxes deducted to pay off his contract. So possibly not all our transfer budget but a large chunk.

For a cool 42.432mill we could pay off Werner to leave as well. Lol

Hey that begs a question. What is better value, 110mill to sign Declan Rice or to sack Lukaku and Werner. Lol

Yeah I would love Lukaku being a flat track bully - scoring against lower teams as that’s where we’re struggling. He’s not even doing that!

31 touches in 120 minutes of football against league one opposition. So poor.

I was actually for signing Lukaku. He looked like he’d improved, become a complete player. He was available (Haaland wasn’t) and we needed a striker. But it looks like another Torres situation- we have to change our shape, tactics to suit HIM. We don’t do that at Chelsea.

Seems simple to me he has until the end of the season to turn things around, personally I don't think it's too late but it's going from bad to worse. More people are starting to give up on him, myself included. Look it's fine to play someone into form but if they're bad all game why are we leaving them on and starting them again and again.

Is Tuchel making a point by playing him so much? Or is he just trying to help get him his confidence and form back. I'm starting to think that number 9 shirt is cursed and that's why Drogs and Costa were fine 😅

Jokes aside Inter won't take him back I'm certain of that, our only hope is Barca, Madrid, Bayern or PSG take a gamble on him. A swap deal or a loan rip our profit margin.

This of course is assuming he doesn't turn things around by the summer. Again I find it hard to justify cutting the rope after one season, perhaps he's entitled to a second season like everyone else, just in case this is just a first season blip.

He started so well, it's hard to understand what went wrong. Maybe the interview is a big part of this but the wheels started to come off for him, before that. It looked like he was slowly returning back to form and then the interview was made public.

If Lukaku is purposely downing tools to get sold ill never forgive him.

He has to show more and being a "superstar" there is nobody else but him that should do better. To save some balls and pass backwards while using his body shouldn't be the highlight of his performance even if he could have had some assists, he was bought to score goals after all.

He looks like he doesn't bother much, sleepy eyes and finding it hard to turn and to make a sprint... He should be eating teams alive in 7-8/10 games.

Tuchel doesn’t know how to use him, he’s got 25 goals in 26 matches in the league for me on FIFA (easiest setting obviously) so I should be brought in as his highly paid (I’ll accept a quarter of Lukaku’s weekly wages) advisor to get him firing again as I’m obviously an expert. Hell, Werner has 21 in 25 too so I’ll sort him out free of charge.

You’re all welcome.
