Gerrard got the Villa job, I think JT or Lamps should go for the Rangers job now.

You're on a hiding to nothing if you take over from Gerrard if you're JT or Lampard.

If you continue to win things you're riding on Gerrard's coat tails and any success is down to him. If Celtic start winning things then you aren't as good as Gerrard was.

True, but JT needs a good starter job and perhaps it's not the best job for Lamps but it's not doing his career any good sitting around doing nothing. I think the English media generally have his back anyway and probably will build up English managers than put them down like that.

Looks like Gerrard is the new manager at Aston Villa.
He's done very well at Rangers tbf.

Although he's done excellent job at Rangers I don't think this will be a success. Villa are maybe the most overrated team in the league, and at the start of the season they expected to battle for European football.

I wrote earlier that their squad depth is poor, and I can see them finishing around 15th place, unless something drastically changes in January.

Admit that I am very surprised Steven Gerrard moved from Rangers to take the Aston Villa job. Thought he would have stayed with Rangers until the end of this current season.

I'm not actually, with no disrespect the EPL is the best leauge possibly globally and Rangers is not big enough to get him a big job so he had to take a chance when the right role came around.

Villa is a good project the players they bought with the Grealish money have been injured so Gerard could be arriving at a good time.

One to watch.

Empathise with the Rangers fans and reminds me of Rogers exit.

Strider. Fair points.

I think van Bronckhorst will get that job

Btw Luxemburg are currently above Ireland in the European qualifiers

Sacking a club legend and then getting in Stevie Me. Looking forward to their relegation.

Frankly it looks like Villa fell into the classic trap of losing a star player for big money and then buying a stack of average mercenaries with name recognition as replacements.

It would be especially fun to watch slippy take them down but their squad is far too good. However, he could well face the sack in a year - 18 months if things don't improve. I expect a him to get a bounce and then the wheels will slowly come off.

See I'm not so convinced on the squad. I think there is a classic QPR/Newcastle vibe here. Lots of individuals who on the surface are good players with name recognition but nothing to write home about, and a big difference between the top and bottom of the squad.

That has in previous years been a recipe for squad disharmony and ultimately for relegation. We can only hope that is what becomes of Slippy G.

Looks like Lampard could be going to Norwich. I don't see that working out for him, not because he isn't good enough, just that they have no hope of staying up no matter who is in charge. Then they will probably sack him once they do go down.

Norwich is a no hoper, almost an impossible job for any manager to walk in right now, with no time and no reinforcement until January. Let's face it, it's not like they are going to pump in 100M in January to save their season. Lampard loves a challenge, but this maybe the wrong one.

Maybe they expect to go down and got lampard for the rebuild in the championship. It doesn’t make any sense to hire lampard for a relegation battle. In a way its admirable that it seems like they are not going to even try to change the way they play. They could have gone for a Sam Allardyce and change playing style drastically

I think that's fair. That said, my take on it is that while the individual players they bought are indeed good, they put precisely zero thought into how they'd function within the team.

I hear he's already tapped up Mount and Tomori for that.

Yeah classic trap that so many teams fall into. All of these nearly men like Leon Bailey and Bertrand Traore trying to play with Ings and Watkins. Not a lot of defending happening there...
