We're defending the club selling academy players because of PSR yet we continue to spend silly amounts of money on players who will never make it here just to make a small profit. Maybe we should stop spending money so we don't have to sell the players in the academy to make a profit?

They even found a loophole to buy the hotels just avoid punishment for their reckless spending.

For my part, not defending. Just explaining how the rules encourages this, especially for us where stockpiling as many talents as possible seems to be the plan. If we bought fewer players but had a more clear and well thought out development plan for each signing we’d probably make more money, get a better squad and wouldn’t had to sell our Cobham graduates.
From the beginning there was a lot of noise about frontloading the stockpiling of youth, so hopefully we’ll see less of it in the future

I get it now: all the FFP and SAS and ASAP and whatever rules mean everybody is buying each other's academy players, and Chelsea are taking a broad view on this and buy the entire youth of South America.

Close enough tbh. And we hope all these mini neymar's and messi's are good enough for a massive amount of profit in about 4-5yrs time to get us ahead of the pack in rgds to sales.

It’s just a massive loan army and if we can collect a loan fee in excess of the amortization, with the borrowing club paying the wages, it probably helps the bottom line. It’s all about the money!

Having moved to Canada many years ago I’ve long since given up thinking that Americans own their sports “franchises” for the love of the game.

To reiterate my stance on the Gallagher situation and the position our club is currently in:

I'm not against the sale of Gallagher or Chalobah or whoever else if the directors were selling them and signing genuine upgrades in their positions to enable us to challenge for silverware. My problem lies with the fact we are selling players who have an affinity to the club and replacing them with players that don't give a sh*t about the club and aren't an upgrade. We're selling our identity to gamble on lining the consortiums pockets at a later date. All we're doing is kicking the can down the line, bang on about 'pure profit' all you like but at some point the talent dries up and you're stuck paying off the money for your Omari Kellyman's you wasted £20m on.

Gallagher/Chalobah are perfect examples this season of players that are absolutely perfect for any squad and any squad would be lucky to have an academy half as good as ours providing players like this free of charge.

Categorically, Chalobah is a better defender and footballer than: Disasi (45m), Anselmino (14m), Koulibaly (41m), Badiashile (38m). That's 138m we've spent to either get worse or sign a player that'll never get game time at Chelsea.

Categorically, Gallagher is a better player than: A. Santos (12.5m), Casadei (14.8m), Chukwuemeka (18m), Uguchukwu (27m), Kellyman (22.5m), KDH (34.5m). 129.3m spent for not a single player that's improving the squad right now. I think Chukwuemeka has the potential to have a place in the squad but i can't see him being better than RLC, who we had on the books.

Kepa was an expensive mistake by previous ownership, but we've known we've needed to sort that position out for years now. Instead of going out and spending the money from these sales on a proven goalkeeper we've had to watch and endure the purchases of: Slonina (9m), Petrovic (16m), Sanchez (23m), Jorgensen (24.5m) and now rumoured for some random NPC regen from Genk with a single appearance for another 18m. 90.5m will have been spent on GK's under this ownership and can we confidently say we have a number one good enough to compete at the top yet?

These are the signings that are the reason we are having to sell youth players and if you're happy about that you're either incredibly naive or backed the wrong horse and are too proud to admit you're wrong by backing the people and 'vision' now in charge.

You're spot on, unfortunately.

However what our magnificently perceptive owners might have failed to factor into their algorithms is that Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd, PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the only clubs with any money. So how are we going to offload dozens of wonderkids to half a dozen, all of which can go and get the same kids from South America themselves.

The Pl will probably change some of the financial restrictions they’ve imposed on themselves, hopefully helps out a bit on this issue

Totally agree with you but to play devil's advocate, we've been doing this for the past two decades, that is, making profit from our academy. Only difference now is that as you stated they are not being replaced by improvements.

I highly doubt that with the government just elected that any organization in the UK will be getting Less regulated. Unfortunately

I agree with all that UB, accept the inclusion of Chucky in there. IMO he does improve us when he plays and his potential is way ahead of RLC.

Unfortunately I don't think he fits with what Maresca wants and will probably be sold.

Should be offical soon. 38mill comes to us from Atleti for Conor, we give it right back to sign Samu.

Yay how exciting.. clowns in charge at this club. Running it like a start up..

Blueco is already taking the next step with already purchasing Strasbourg but will also probably buy a club in Portugal and Brazil. We can potentially "loan out" players to those leagues to play meaningful football. Santos is a good example.

In terms of our current academy players we should look to loan out our best academy players to Strasbourg.

This is naturally all due to introduction of PSR and FFP. The top clubs will always find ways to take advantage. That is until the Prem turns into an American style league. Which it is heading towards to.

You think less regulation of business is a good thing?

I really think they need to get their sh*t together and hurry up on those 2 or 3 new clubs. We need them. I agree totally that strasbourg is really important in getting our players ready but one club isn't enough, especially with all these players they have brought in.

We need at least another 2 clubs now...2 clubs that will play the same way or work on certain parts of each players development.

Just stop buying players and focus now on development. Especially when all those kids arrive from South America.

*How many clubs do city grp own now? I think its 13-14 clubs they have shares in.

All the very best To Connor Gallagher from me. Hope he goes on to win the league in Spain and has an outstanding career away from his home here at Chelsea. Always welcome at the bridge in my eyes playing for whoever.

Cheers for caring about our club when so few others appear to Mr Gallagher. All the very best, you will be missed.

Not gonna get political here, already might’ve spoke too much, but it is doubtful that the PL will be allowed to loosen any restrictions they’ve put on. Whether self imposed or otherwise, so I just see it as unlikely that we will face a situation where the club (clubs in general) has more freedom to maneuver financially anytime soon.

Atletico have confirmed the singing of Alvarez for 82mill, despite his deal being agreed much later that conors.

They won't sign Conor unless we sign a player to help them out.

Shows how much they really want him when they spend more than double on Alaverz but will only take Conor if we help them out.

Get back on the plane Conor and find a club that really wants you. Either this summer or next.

Life on the Atletico bench is looming, should Conor sign. Things are not looking up for him, are they

Hard to put yourself in someone else's shoes but if I am Conor, and I was given a deadline to say yes to Atletico, made thar choice, agreed the deal and, by reports, signed his side of the contract with Atletico not signed (waiting on Samu deal), did the stadium tour, trained with new team mates then to only be told no we won't sign unless Chelsea buy a player off us cause we need that to happen first and then to see 82mill be spent on Alvarez I would be thinking "yeah you don't really want me do you? Sign the deal now or I will rip it up and fly back to London".

Have some pride in yourself Conor, this is a sh*t way for a new club to treat you and you don't deserve it.

In one year you can go anywhere. Wait it out if need be.

This is because our agreement to buy Omorodion collapsed.

We had already agreed to buy their player to fund the purchase of Conor. We're just buying a different player to fund the purchase.

If we hadn't f**ked up the Omorodion contract, it would be done.
