Liverpool just lost TAA with a hamstring injury for "several weeks" so that should impact their attacking effectiveness with any luck 🙂

Right before international break when they probably would have rested him at Forrest anyway? Rather convenient timing.

Before a ball is kicked I would say the ties are

50/50 Chelsea vs Real, (40/60 if we cannot have fans)

60/40 City vs Atletico

25/75 Villareal vs Bayern

1/99 Benfica vs Pool

Would these be the weeks the international break is on? Seemed to have heard similar previously 😏

Happy it's no English side. Also I do think RM is overrated because PSG (and the ref to some extent)  gifted them three goals. They were helpless against a well structured Chelsea side last year and I reckon they won't be that much better this time. They were bad against PSG as long as the French played their structured setup. A 50/50 I'd say - but only because of eventually playing without fans.

RM is more or less the same as they were last season, shouldn't be too difficult to beat though we are suffering a bit in the wingback department compared to last season.

Worth remembering that we did not have an easy ride last season, Atletico on their way to the Spanish title (Real this season), Portuguese Champions Porto being a sterner test for a team like us than Pool, reigning Spanish champions Real Madrid, New English Champions Man City.

If we beat Real we get another of last seasons opponents.

If we beat them we get Pool or Bayern, every bit as good as City.

We just had our "easier" draw in the last 16 rather than last 8 this time.

Haven’t you heard? Liverpool are on their way to win the quadruple!

I have heard that yes. That and our club going out of business would certainly point to the day of judgement finally being here.

We have a decent shot of beating Real. . . I am having a hard time seeing us get past City in a 2 leg competition.  Especially this season without Chillwell.  (I am pretty sure City will beat Athletico Madrid)

Joking aside I'm seriously starting to worry it might actually happen, they have a disturbing level of momentum right now.

They'll obviously beat Benfica and I think they'll beat Bayern aswell (Nagelsmann is still a bit green on the biggest stage infact I don't even think it's a given he'll get past Emery).

It may come down to us to stop them in the cups (they'll psychologically edge City in Europe and physically smash Madrid).

Much as I hate them bigger concerns with our club now.

They have the league in the bag already imo. Fa cup they will get Palace or Everton ergo a by to the final.

CL? Been handed a nice route to the final.

If they play City they win

If they play Real 66% chance they do

Atletico or us 50/50

Didn't realize this at all. We really did win against 3 out of 5 champions of the biggest leagues in Europe.

Not a bad draw Chelsea and Real Madrid are two very important clubs, should be a cracker.

A bit disappointed that we didnt get one of the weaker teams like Benfica, Villarreal or Liverpool 😉

The Guardian plumbing new depths today when reporting on the draw:

"Anyway, their 2022 model could meet City in this year’s semis, providing they get past Real Madrid and Pep’s lot beat Atlético. That would be a mouth-watering repeat of last year’s final, wouldn’t it, which Chelsea won 1-0 thanks to Antonio Rüdiger’s challenge on Kevin De Bruyne."

On the balance of things I would say we're a slightly stronger squad this season but only just.

If you weigh 1 extra year of experience together as a group and under TT. Then we factor in losing Ben who is key to our defence. Trevor is an upgrade on Zouma imo and Saul in the ucl is an upgrade to Billy (under TT not Lamps Billy who looked amazing). Finally Lukaku in theory should be an upgrade to Giroud and Tammy but that's been a weird one.

We also have Ross who's a wildcard and RLC who has had some very dominant performances this season although has been a liability at times.

I think we have enough to match our level from last season although it will be hard. That should be our minimum aim, apparently that's the best in the world so if we hit it, I imagine it would take a very good team to beat us across two legs or subsequently in a 1 off game in the finals.

Maintaining our iron clad defence in Europe will be essential, followed by a clinical streak which we will need this year, we didn't get punished for the amount of chances we missed vs Madrid in the semis and then City in the finals. This time it's better to get the job done as thoroughly as possible.
