Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea

Behind the other two I mentioned

Behind Silva but when Poulsen came on both acted as STs. Poulsen I noticed played more of a CAM off the ball which I found interesting.

This transfer really irritates me. This looks like another situation of having a player that is best suited to play off of a proper striker without us actually having a proper striker. How will we accomodate Felix, Havertz and Nkunku next season while also having Mount at our disposal? As well as Noni, Mudryk and numerous others.

As good as Nkunkus numbers are in the Bundesliga this still seems like a weird fit for us. I wish we could just go out and buy a proper striker instead of piling on these 2nd striker type of players. Reminds me a lot of Havertz actually ... I hope Nkunku will not go down the same disappointing path.

Sounds like the target man dropping in deep to hold the ball while Nkunku makes runs in behind, basically the same situation we had with Werner which is slightly concerning.

Agreed, he's a very good player but this is Lukaku/Werner all over again. I think all our attacking players would do a hell of a lot better if we had an actual focal point up top - I struggle to see one in the market though?

I think we could do a lot worse than signing a striker like Mitrovic. Wouldn't command a crazy fee, prem proven, adds a bit of steel and experience up top, what's not to like?

Sure, he's on the slow side but I reckon he would do well for us and offers something a little different from the rest of our attacking set up

I don't think he fits the age profile of what our new recruitment committee are looking at for the project.

I can see us going for someone like Benfica's Goncalo Ramos though ...

I thought when we let Giroud go we should have been all over getting Mitrovic into the club, an ideal replacement.

I was calling for him 3 years ago mate.

We tried that with Lukaku and Auba and it couldn't have gone worse if we tried.

None of them are a focal point as far as I’m concerned. I see Auba as a poacher and Lukaku wants to drift wide and run in behind

What's your definition of a focal point though?

This is the aspect of the signing I’m puzzled with and why I think it’s inevitable that Felix doesn’t actually end up staying; especially after they extended his deal until 2027.. Atletico will be hard to deal with; not to mention Havertz doesn’t have an obvious suitor with Bayern ruling themselves out.

Don't worry, we can bring out number 9 back next season, problem solved 🙂

For me its someone who gives the team different outlets when needed. You’d need the ability to fight for the long ball and to be technical enough to drop deep and link up play. Harry Kane would of course be perfect, Diego Costa and Sparky in their prime as well
There are though, at least to my (very) limited knowledge, few such players on the market at the moment

How lucky we are....

Him returning is one of the things that could potentially make my interest wane.

I don't care if that makes me a sh*t fan. I can accept failure if we tried but this would be effectively sabotage.

If we went for that type of player, Ivan Toney is the best out there ATM.

It is really hard to fathom how weak Luk is as a man. He's been a top player all his young life but he is very soft as a person I feel. He clearly only performs in the absolute right conditions.

I’d ship Havertz off to Athleti in a swap with Felix.

Felix doesn’t fit their system and Havertz doesn’t really fit ours.

Felix much more comfortable in our team and Havertz would do well in Madrid and seems a player Simeone could work with.

Thoughts?

If they were open to it, sure, but the last similar high profile swap deal turned out to be just a dodgy accounting trick from Juve, so it’s fairly uncommon in the game, generally.

He probably be banned from playing in April for 6 months by the looks of it.
