May 18, 20224 yr We should have gone all out for him last summer. The guy is a unit and looks after himself as well as any older player in the world. Get him in
May 19, 20224 yr Author The latest on the dude from what I'm hearing from a few sources is that he 100% wants to leave (context below for anyone who cares why). His agent has agreed terms with Bayern whether he can leave or go still waiting to see, but fee would likely be €50m. Barca have agreed terms with Lewandowski and its being reported either his wages reduce by €100k a week or he will be on €100k a week at Barca were he to move. Barca still yet to open talks with Bayern over a fee, but have offered a swap including Memphis Depay. Problem for us is needing to sort this ownership out so we can go into the market. I highly doubt Barca pay the €50m, according to his agent we have wanted him on 3 separate occasions, so he knows our interest is serious. If Barca move falls through PSG and Chelsea are the teams he would most likely go. Context* the reason he wants to leave is because Bayern told him they wouldn't sign Haaland, but spent this whole time behind his back trying to sign him. Then would have subsequently either moved him on or not offered a new contract. The player is irked, feels betrayed, etc. 100% wants to leave if Barca can't agree a deal I'm quite optimistic Tommy and Todd can convince him of the project. Watch this space let's hope Barca continue to struggle for player purchases, but they will definitely try and find a way. Something to note is Barca are not his dream team it's Real he always wanted to play in La Liga but, EPL may intrigue him.
May 19, 20224 yr Not sure he is the right fit for us. When Havertz is fit he leads the line well, can't see Lewa making that much movement. Concern whether he can also step up to the pace of the EPL.
May 19, 20224 yr I think he would be excellent in the Prem and for us. He finishes with the best of them.

No needing to adapt to the league and no needing managerial stability. I am going to be genuinely considered if we continue to see some of the same lethargic play we've seen the past two seasons from him.

Part of the issues he had with Bayern was he wanted a pay rise on his €440k/w wages. I am not a fan of this signing along with the Perisic one, seems very shortsighted. We may have gotten lucky with Silva who is motivated because he wants to go to with the World Cup. With Lewandowski & Perisic their motivation will be economical which is a slippery slope at that age. I’d rather give Havertz a final shot at making the “9” his own if we can get rid of Lukaku, with Broja backing him up. If Havertz fails, then we sell in the summer with 2yrs left on his contract.

Yep agree Havertz is not prolific yet just plumping for another aging striker with no experience in the EPL is a big gamble.

I understand questioning it but Lewandowski isn’t just another ageing striker he’s been the best number 9 in the world for many years, only Ronaldo and Messi have more champions league goals. Lukaku on the other hand has has one good season and already failed in the premier league. Although I’ve just described Shevchenko before we bought him!

He’s a great player but his age, wage and huge fees involved mean that unless he delivers a title, the overall cost is prohibitive.

For starters he's too inconsistent and I personally think he's more suited to playing as a second striker behind someone like Lewandowski versus actually leading the line. He also could learn a lot form Lewandowski. Edited May 20, 20224 yr by Frankie8Lampard

But like Ronaldo and Messi, Lewandowski could hurt us in other areas. Ronaldo doesn't have the legs for doing the hard yards anymore and it hurts United. He scores goals, but off the ball it can be like playing with 10 men. Messi is the same at PSG and was the same in his last 2 seasons with Barcelona. Lewandowski would be like that with us, he would score goals but the work rate off the ball would hurt us because he's not going to press effectively. It only takes one player to screw up a teams pressing from the front, we see it with Lukaku every time he plays.
May 20, 20224 yr No more post-prime players, think back to 200/4/2005 how we had a team of decent players and walked the league, not a post-prime player in sight.
May 21, 20224 yr It’s a shame if his best is behind him, cos for the last 6-7 yrs been the best striker in the world
May 21, 20224 yr The right kind of player for us. Better than any striker we've had play for us in 10 years.
May 25, 20224 yr Author if Barca do sign Lewandowski, which supposedly is his preference I'd take a gamble on Memphis for €20m. He's grown and improved a lot since his utd days. TT knows him from his Ligue 1 days where he was lightning it up. I wonder whether Tuchel would be open to signing him as an option both through the middle and either side of the striker.
May 27, 20224 yr Still want him, why not, at the moment he is still top of his game, unlike Torres, and Sheva, who absolutely weren't..
May 27, 20224 yr 34 in August Would City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs buy a 34 year old striker? Edited May 27, 20224 yr by Scott

And I don’t think that it is necessarily a bad thing, look at Silva, he’s the best CB of our lot and possibly of the PL at 37.
May 30, 20224 yr He's an absolute monster, but Id question if he can hold up to the leagues physicality... Need to rotate with Havertz and possibly Broja wig he comes back to the fold. Doubt we'd keep Lukaku if we sign Lewa on mega money, but stranger things have happened.
May 30, 20224 yr Big gamble this would be, not many attackers play at a high level this deep in their 30s, his decline could be very soon. There will be a transfer fee and no doubt he will not be having a 1 year deal with options to extend. The way he is forcing a move now against the club he spent 8 years at shows to me he wants a move now to sign his last big wage 3 year deal.
May 30, 20224 yr Would swap Lukaku, CHO and RLC to get Lewandowski in. Right kind of player for the club.

May 31, 20224 yr Of course I’d take him. He’s the best striker in the world and I see him in similar veil as Thiago Silva, world class player who would succeed anywhere he goes. If we could sign any strikers in the world for instant impact I’d go for Lewa. His record for Poland proves he can score despite playing for an average team, 75 goals in 129 games. 238 goals in 253 games for Bayern. Best striker in the world.
