I still don't fully understand why we would want to sign him..he is talented for sure but is he someone that could transform our game...? An upgrade to Jorginho would be a prime Fabregas. A player that truly can make a pin point pass. For me De Jong is not that. 

We don't actually need midfield motors, I think we need a player that can find our attackers with great passes.

Laporta saying that he wants to stay. It could tactics for get his money but seems pointless signing a player that doesn’t want to be here. I would avoid him unless he really wants the move.

If the money is the issue and they have to let him go he needs to wrap his head around that and look for a good club. No one is paying him 500k/week unless PSG somehow is in for him. The stories go that he is asked to take a major paycut to continue at Barcelona. Be it halving it he would still make something we would offer him (around 250k/week, also taxing and currency has to be taken into consideration) and maybe he still prefers Barcelona. It is worrying times for them and still most exciting times in years with Xavi in helm and new brilliant players coming in (Lewa and Raphinha for example). 

If I had to guess I say he is staying.

I'd happily pay 50m for De Jong.

But I wouldn't take him on a free if we had to pay his deferred salary.

It's just semantics but the idea of paying wages Barca promised their players is nauseating.

Agree totally. And the bit that is being missed i think is that they need to get him off the books because his wages going forwards are astronomical.

In addition to the signing on fee and the 17m of back wages, how much are we going to pay this bloke if we get him.

I agree whole heartedly.

But the precedent of paying the wages Barca owe after what's happened this summer paints the club in a terrible light.

We need De Jong.  But they need to sell him more.  We have all the leverage here we shouldn't be offering them big money and covering his wages.

In the end whether we pay for DeJong or not Barca are most likely going to swindle their way out of this.  So like you say let’s concentrate on ourselves and what’s best for us and ignore Barcelona.
