is he really that good? haven't watched him since his Ajax days. Surely Jorgi will be on his way if this happens?

he's easily as good as Jorginho (except for the penalties) and he has more pace and is more creative in going forwards, + has the stamina to go box to box

When you say he has more pace it doesn't really sound that impressive since Jorginho is not really pacy... But Frankinho has great pace!

I mean £70-80m does seem a lot for anything less than fringe world class/world class. Like you, I have never seen him play. I pay very little attention to other teams outside of Chelsea or the occasional decent PL fixture.

If we manage to bring him in do we have enough time to find a buyer for Jorginho? What a transfer window this could be.

Jorgiho is a very good player. For me some Prem games are not his optimal scenarios but otherwise the man is elite. De Jong has pretty big boots to fill.

Pique decided to play for free next season. If he is the leader he is said to be maybe FDJ decides to take the paycut as well.

He can't play for free, it's against Spanish law. He can only take a 50% wage cut.

The use of the word elite truly has lost its meaning then.

Ben Jacobs update:

Big week as Chelsea pursue Frenkie de Jong and Wesley Fofana. Clarity on FDJ future expected within the next 48 hours. FDJ still doesn’t want to take a pay cut opening the door to #CFC. #MUFC have all but given up.

Chelsea are optimistic on an agreement for just over €80m, slightly lower than #MUFC’s offer but not by much. Todd Boehly has spoken to FDJ directly. #CFC won’t place the formal bid unless the player commits to the move. Chelsea pushing but FDJ still saying he wants to stay.

As previously reported, Barca want the fee and wage space so they can move on Bernardo Silva. Silva wants the move. Nothing agreed with #MCFC yet.

Barcelona suddenly have a real  urgency to resolve the situation which helps #CFC. Joan Laporta told CBS he will “respect the contract” if FDJ insists on staying on current terms. But Barca also allege the renewal is ‘illegal’ and could challenge it in court.

Financials #CFC offering FDJ are acceptable to him. It all comes down to whether he actually is prepared to leave or Barca can ‘force’ him out. We saw with Ousmane Dembele a U-turn. He was also stubborn only to take a pay cut. But his contract ended. De Jong has more control.

I think what's given us the edge over United is the fact we already have a settled midfield (well atleast for the upcoming campaign).

We fail with this we still have Jorgi/Kova/Kante but United desperately need a CM so they'd be playing with fire putting all their eggs in one basket.

Times reporting that we’re close.

Chelsea are close to agreeing a fee with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong.

Remains unclear whether midfielder will agree to #cfc move - financial dispute with Barca remains. But De Jong wants Champions League football which #mufc couldn't offer

Frenkie de Jong’s lawyers contact authorities over Barcelona’s ‘planned media slander campaign’

Frenkie de Jong is reportedly extremely angry with Barcelona and feels he’s a victim of a planned media slander campaign.

Isn’t this similar to what Bartomeu got in trouble for? Paying I3Ventures to attack people on his behalf?

Really do feel for FDJ, if i was him i'd stay and force Barca to pay up. There's absolutely no way we're offering even close to the 500k or whatever Barca stupidly gave him. I imagine most he'd be on here is 250k at a push.

I suspect Barcelona are keen to wrap this up as soon as possible, if this tweet is correct:

Christensen to return to us on a free.

On half his previous wages

And a clause entitling us to fine him everytime he sh*ts himself before a big game.

I'd actually take Kessie though.

Kessie is a good option if he becomes a free agent.
