August 9, 20223 yr Ben Jacobs update: There is a private acceptance at #MUFC that a Frenkie de Jong transfer won't happen as long as Chelsea push. As previously reported, de Jong wants to stay at Barcelona, but if forced out he sees a move to #CFC as more preferable. Chelsea prepared to pay Barca's asking price. But they won't place a formal bid without player buy-in. Broad terms #MUFC & #CFC have established, plus payment of deferred wages, are similar. A lot will depend now on Barca 'forcing' de Jong out since his desire to stay is firm. A lot has been made of ten Hag's role in landing de Jong. But I'm told de Jong wants #UCL football and sees #MUFC as unstable. He has a decent professional relationship with ten Hag but nothing so special that it gives Manchester United an advantage.

I mean fgs they kick you out for a single mistake normally? Criminal club, deserve a hefty punishment but will likely get away with it. I really hope we don't throw them a bone. If they are saying their own player is on an illegal contract, then surely they are outing themselves. If there is evidence that he has been playing on an illegal contract, then surely that should warrant a suspension from European football and a points deduction in La Liga at the very least. Also, if this turns out to be true, that would make De Jong's contract null and void, making him a free agent. We wouldn't have to pay Barcelona a penny.

August 9, 20223 yr In the next few days, Frenkie De Jong to Chelsea will heat up more. (@gerardromero) #CFC he says that every week though

August 9, 20223 yr Barcelona won't get caught in any mishap I am sure. So I think if they absolutely have to sell FDJ we are in a strong position IF we want to meet his price. It looks like we are winning something here...or the narrative is like that now. We would be buying one of the most expensive players there are. If this is just to get to MU and Barcelona I don't like our approach at all. Tuchel and Todd are apparently (if we are to believe certain outlets) keen on him. I think a CB and maybe a striker/winger is a priority, as Tuchel already said. I don't think this will happen. Probably depends on Todd's madness 😃

Or at least you can unless you are at the end of your career like Gareth Bale. De Jong is not. His identity and sense of worth will require him to play at a good level. What is clear is that to date he hasn't wanted to leave. As is long established he just bought a house in Barca, probably loves the life style. But I strongly suspect Xavi wants to give his young guns the midfield Pedri and Gavi backed up by Busquets. De Jong may well be as good as or better than them but Xavi doesn't have to have him. He gets mixed messages from Barca on the one hand they love him, he is a good player, on the other they are willing to let him go. Barca are going to get through their financial issues in the short term. They will end up being able to register the players one way or another. The negative impact will come longer term as their future income has been reduced, but even then maybe the growth of women's football or something will offset that. As for us much as I think De Jong would improve the team for this season the priority has to be a central defender and a striker. So I could buy De Jong if I thought we could get to top 4 this year without Fofana (or someone else) and say Auba each of which will be hard enough to do on their own. But for this season if push came to shove we can do without de jong. Still I can imagine a 4 3 3 with james fofana koulibaly cucu/chill gallagher de jong kova and a front 3 and I might say take de jong, get fofana and make do with the crap forward line we have this seasons.

They've already lodged a police complaint alleging Bartomeu's administration committed fraud by keeping payments off the books, Bartomeu was consequently arrested and is awaiting trial. They've also handed over evidence in relation to allegations that directors and Neymar conspired to commit tax fraud in his transfer.

They are alleging that Bartomeu's administration did not have the right to offer front-loaded contracts which means the deal to defer wages and pay them with interest later is not valid. You are right in the second part though. De Jong absolutely can call their bluff and force them to terminate the contract on these grounds, making him a free agent. He has no intention to do so, as he would then agree to losing out on his €16m and no new club would pay him the stupid wages he was earning at Barcelona. 9 hours ago, BordeauxBlue said: If I were the team that finished a place behind Barca in the league and consequently missed out on Champions league I'd sue them as they clearly aren't playing by the rules. What I mean is, if players were playing with dodgy (to put it mildly) contracts, then wouldn't it be an unfair advantage last season, thus making the position Barcelona finished moot since they essentially cheated? Dunno, but if I were a lesser Spanish side that missed out on Europe I'd be pissed.

You mean in a similar way to how Barca where granted permission to make an emergency transfer outside of the transfer window because of an injury to Dembele to buy Martin Braithwaite from Leganés, but then didn't give Leganés the same permission to buy in a replacement and they where relegated that season? The same Braithwaite who is regularly booed because he won't leave the club.
August 10, 20223 yr If the contract is illegal, who's accountable for it, the club that drew up the contract? 😁 In a normal work place, if the employer tells employee his contract is invalid, employee walk away from the job at minimum, or negotiate another one based on market rate, don't think going back to the oldcontract 3 years ago is even possible. Again, why do we need to make sense of this, Barca do whatever the f* they want.

It’s an interesting area of law I imagine when an officer of the company contracts beyond his power to do so. I suppose it is on the other party to determine if the officer is acting within his powers.
